Alternator needs to put out a voltage of at least 13-14.6 volts to ensure the 12 volt vehicle battery can be charged along powering other accessories. The voltage should not exceed 15+ volts if it does there is potential to damage sensitive vehicle components such as sensors, control units etc. The over voltage is normally caused by a faulty voltage regulator, diode pack normally shows low voltage. It also important to check the condition of your V or serpentine drive belt.
