  • Josh Jackson was the next big thing at Virginia Tech and Tom Brady even hyped him up, but after that he fell off, transferred and hasn't been heard from again. Enjoy!

Tough path he took, as a VT fan once you are a Hokie you are one for life in my eyes. He always seemed to take it personal the hate he got for declaring. It wasn't hate from me though it was confusion because clearly someone had told him something that was clearly wrong because one year at VT isn't going to get you drafted. In the end, he made the decision he thought was best and you can't blame him for that, I hope it works out for him.

I don’t think he was “disrespected” by the coaches saying he would have to re earn the starting job. As a starter it is your job to prove that you are the best at your position week in and week out. He clearly had some off the field trouble and i view it as immature that he chose to blame the coaches instead of proving to them how good he was.

Fully agree, if he thinks he is truly the starter, he should have no fear in his ability to beat out others for the job. Sucks that he got hurt, but sometimes unlucky things happen. Ryan Willis made the most of his opportunity and I wish Josh understood that Ryan played well enough to also deserve to be a starter.

Nobody thought he was the next tyrod taylor or vick, i think he was the best available option. I will say that the coaches at tech probably got more out of his skills than we realized when he was playing. After he transferred to Maryland it didn't go so well. I liked him and I think if he'd been a bit more aggressive it would have helped him. If you could take the best of jj and the best of ryan Willis you'd have a top notch qb. Glad to see willis do so well in the spring league getting the mvp of the championship game

Lol no. The coaches failed him. He was very talented, that’s why he was a high end 4 star with all those huge offers. He did great to be a freshman. That is where the coaches come in, to continue developing him. And they ruined him. Same way with Hooker, Willis, and Patterson. They’ve had the clay but Fuente and cornelson suck, and that’s why they haven’t developed the QBs at all 😂

@@thomastrain7311 did you watch the video? 😂😂 he was a four star recruit. That means he was extremely good out of high school. He was considered by many to be one of the top ten quarterbacks in America as a recruit. He committed early to VT which prevented penn state to offer but they would’ve offered if he didn’t commit to Tech so early, but Michigan offered him too. Either way, he was a four star recruit. He was by all means a huge get and an elite talent. And that’s an apples to oranges comparison. At Maryland he had less talent around him, hr was playing much tougher competition, and tho I don’t think tech is well coached, they’re better than Maryland’s.

He lost his composure, and he did nothing to lead the team. Curious why you decided to make this piece and where you got your information from--it's almost laughable.
JJ was never "hyped" or the heralded as the "future of VT" football. There's a reason there was an open QB competition after his first year as starter. Notably, if Evans hadn't left unexpectedly after one season, it is very likely JJ would have never started at VT. Willis was not eligible that year, and Hooker was too skinny as a true freshman. As a VT fan, both were more hyped that JJ ever was--and for good reason.
Intangibles and football IQ were certainly there, but below average size and arm for a P5 Qb.
