i still remember the day, while sunbathing at Quinto beach in Genova Italy, i listened to "can't get there from here" on the radio, it was love at first listen!
Yesss. I have many bootlegs and have heard many. This doesn't ring a bell. Thank ya! Now I must break out Hootenanny. Hearing something new to me from R.E.M. makes me happy. It hurt so bad when they parted. Hopefully you have more gems.
Nice job finding this one! From the REM Timeline: 'September Sang' is another new song, performed once & never performed again, similar in style to 'Pilgrimage'. This is a different song to the unknown song from 25 June 1982
Just found your channel and Wow it's awesome! I'm getting into R.E.M so this will be a great channel to tune into for Rarities. Is there any way we can chat? I'd love some pointers for getting into R.E.M's Music More (The best albums to own, favorite tracks to check out, etc.)
Jk, but Stipe makes it clear that back then he was more interested in how words sounded than what they meant. Mills too. Not even they remember the lyrics. I'm convinced that sometimes they were not singing real words or sentences at all. Stuff like washull ahey.

This sounds like a one-off that was lucky to be caught on tape. A rare gem.
and my REM education continues after 29 years listening. Thanks again Chout :)
Happy September 1st everybody!! What a great song!! ✌️🎶💙
Sounds like an outtake from Chronic Town.
Great song and Bill Berry’s drumming kicks ass

Cool. I've been a fan and collector for decades. I don't think I've ever even seen a reference to this song. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for uploading.
Echoing all the other comments, never heard this before since becoming a fan in 1985. Great!
awesome picture!
This is amazing. Count me as one who'd heard tons of old stuff (well, back in the 90s) but I NEVER heard this one!
Heard about this one & had to hear it. Thanks for posting this rarity.
I feel some of the guitar hooks and the "take a trip" vocals owe a lot to "Pilgrimage."
THANK YOU
I have been a fan since Out of Time and never heard this one!
Genial..!!

thought I knew all the old songs... :o thanks
A "new" REM song, awesome!
Sounds vaguely like "Romance". Great picture!
this image is very cool.
Wow, almost sounds like Cap'n Jazz . . .
Whoa! Was thinking along the same line.

Could've been taken the same day...
can someone transcribe the lyrics and send them to me please or post them?
Yeah, good luck with that.

@@noisepuppet trying to figure the words after November lol
@@danopo it was worth a shot haha
Interesting...never ever heard this before......bit of a strange song really...
Early REM experimentation...
It’s always great to find an unknown or unreleased song but I can see why this was forgotten. It just doesn’t work. One of their weakest songs.

A produced studio version of this song might have been good. I don't care for this. Wahi' Valleys
