@larrymyclown i think REM's expectations of what a song should do shifted hugely. when they wrote this stuff, they weren't shifting huge units. once AFTP came out, they must have wanted each and every song to be magical and epic. they needed to just get together and jam out simple things like stumble, and forget the fact they became a global entity.
