I saw that, too. It was a clip from a Sam Roberts thing. She grew up on the 90s WWF version of Jim and not the 80s Midnight Express version when he was at his best. I did the same thing even though I was born in 83. 90s WWF Jim was the only Jim I knew until the WWE Network came along and I started binge watching NWA/WCW stuff from 83 onward.

Samantha tries to make every wrestler feel special with her intros. It also warms my heart that she gets the Corny seal of approval. Plus she makes the AEW fans seethe with rage as they try to compare her to Aubrey Ed. Samantha shows real passion and energy, which you don't see.
I've had this conversation with people before now, aside from those within the business that have been critical of her announcing style but as someone who has been in a ring also; the ring announcers job is to basically hype up the talent, they are essentially your wing man/woman and it genuinely makes the difference between an interactive crowd and a crowd that would rather be anywhere else and I love that about her.

She really does make every wrestler no matter who they are seem so special. She's the best announcer in forever to me. I absolutely love what she does and how she does it. She makes us feel , and that to me is wrestling. It's not about the moves it's about making people feel.

What I love about Samantha is you can tell how passionate she really is about the business. She comes across genuine because she is. When she was in tears announcing Cody's win at Mania, I remember thinking I can't remember the last time I felt emotion that raw coming from an announcer, and it was perfect.
Her voice cracking a bit when she announced Damien Priest cashing in the briefcase is what really sold me on her. Didn’t think too much about her before, but the raw emotion she put into that really added to the moment in a way that a lot of other announcers may not have (or even her if it’s true she was being told to tone it down before).

I don't get how Cornette hasn't praised Tiffany Stratton yet. She is a great athlete, she knows how to work and sell, and she gets how to be a heel. I think she is great.

They only just stopped changing her gimmick the other week. The Naomi/Bayley feud has been a good start to her heel run but she needs more time to get some actual heat with the crowd, Brian ignoring her matches doesn't help sway Jim to watching but by time they do eventually tune in she'll hopefully have worked the gimmick out and be able to get a feud over by herself.
Think about how many ladies wrestlers he’s come across in 60 years. Yes, Tiff is exceptional, but it’ll just take a little longer to “break” his filter. Just a matter of time, and that’s ok.

The Chelsea Green intro is what won me over.
Announcing on the main roster is about to be absolutely spectacular. Samantha on Raw and Alicia getting promoted from NXT to go to Smackdown.
Good to hear Jim is willing to give Tiffany a chance and I agree with him in that 3 way, 4 way, etc matches almost always suck. I will always prefer 1v1 singles matches and 2v2 tag matches.
Irvin is a fine announcer, she does a good job, but I don’t get why everyone thinks she’s so amazing. Because she cries when someone wins? Because she doesn’t know the results it matches? Big deal, anyone can do that.
People compare her to JR, but that’s not a comparison because they have 2 different jobs! JR is supposed to put over the match and get emotional because he’s the commentator! That’s his job! Her job is to ring announce the participants and the winners of the matches. Dont remember when it was important to see the ring announcers reaction. Whats next? The cameraman?

She is a decent announcer, I still think she goes a bit too far trying to get herself over though. The cuts to her reactions are a bit much. I’m in the minority but I like announcers who are more stoic and removed.
Completely disagree. I like that she adds a little extra to the presentation of each wrestler. She feels like a real wrestling fan and it makes her very endearing and likable. She's everything Justin Roberts wishes he could be.

I agree with you. I think she’s a good ring announcer but I don’t care for her reactions while the match is going on.
The younger generation of fans want everyone involved and mid level players to be treated like super stars. It’s just a difference in opinion. No one really hates her, it’s just us older fans like things done one way and the younger fans like it another way. Both sides can walk away feeling right.

I feel it is just one of these positions that doesn’t need to be personality based and when roles like announcers and refs become too big they can overshadow what matters. She is good at her job, I’d just tone it down a bit.
Good to hear corny coming around on Samantha. Never liked him speaking bad about her, I would just ignore it. You can’t agree with someone 100% of the time but for the most part Jim is on point.

I've been a fan since the days of "The Fink" and I think Samantha is one of the best to do it.
I'm here because Jim Cornette is trending on Twitter/X again due to Samantha Irvin's response to this video. Though I find Twitter to be a cesspool, it's a cesspool that provides a lot of entertainment - thanks to the AEW fans and their disdain for people like Cornette, Bischoff, Dutch Mantell, Kevin Nash, Konnan and Disco Inferno, and now Teddy Long and Samantha Irvin. If you read some of the tweets, you'll be reminded of WHY the AEW faithful need A LOT of psychological help and prayer.

I love that Samantha adds little announcing flairs for wrestlers (Chelsea Green and Ludwig Kaiser come to mind). It reminds me of Justin Robert's "Jooooooohn Ceeeenaaa". Adds another aspect to the character to help them get over with the audience. I also love that she doesn't know the results beforehand. It really helps add emotion to her post-match announcements.

If you took your mother to Wrestling for the first time, and Samantha was announcing, Your Mom would, hilariously, dislike Chelsea Greeeeeeen before she even saw her! That is how one talented teammate assists another talented teammate to benefit everyone!
Imo she has such a classic feel. I can almost imagine her using a mic that is suspended from the ceiling
I stopped watching back in 2010 due to time and life. I followed loosely, but never really dipped back in the way I had been doing before I stopped watching. Fast forward to Backlash of last year in PR, I decided to jump back in. Couldn't have picked a better time to do so and it's only gotten better since. I'm actually watching Raw and Smackdown every week again. I'm watching every PLE and I'm listening to Corny damn near every day in some capacity. I haven't felt like this since I was 12 and painting my arms with cheap ass washable markers to mimic Jeff Hardy. Samantha Irvin is a big part of this because you can feel her excitement. She doesn't wish to be told the outcomes or actions because she wants to convey a genuine reaction to the end result and it genuinely shows. It adds a layer of believability to every match and I'm all here for it. She's a fantastic announcer and a genuine cog in the drama of each match. Fucking love it.

She really won me over during WrestleMania, the emotion in voice when Sami and Cody won their matches really added to their victories.
I knew Samantha was gonna be very special and different ring announcer when she emphasized Chelsea Green’s name, and the fact that she announces each wrestler’s name slightly different makes them and their entrances feel special. Plus, her adding personality to shocking moments like Priest cashing in and Cody beating Roman makes those moments even more special. If she sticks around, she could become one of the greatest announcers of all time.
It always adds to a show when the announcers for tv and in ring as well as referees have personality.

One thing WWE are doing really well now is promoting all of their staff and stars that get over. Especially on their social media! They highlight amazing moments from people like Samantha that you don't see during the regular TV broadcast.
And all in all I think they are letting their staff do their thing and express themselves without so much oversight and micromanaging and it is letting all of these people with immense passion for the product and passion for professional wrestling in general let that passion shine through and make the product that much more exciting and earnest. It's amazing to see.

Shes been absolutely amazing. I didnt watch wwe for a while and when I came back to it she was the announcer and i instantly thought wow she has an amazing voice.
I think the one thing all wrestling fans can agree on is Samantha is a great announcer. She will be the voice of this era in the same way Finkel was for the 80s/90s when we look back.

It took a bit for her to grow on me, but she really does a great job and I saw her live where she has a great voice and atmosphere she brings. She also seems like a real wrestling fan. In person, she’s also drop dead gorgeous.

If you read Justin Roberts book, he openly talks about how Vince would yell at him for personalizing certain wrestlers, and a lot of that stuff that Samantha is doing now
