If someone from Amsterdam came to the US and was Arrested for standing in a window with their boobs and vajayjay out, and a sign selling sex- I’d EXPECT them to have to go through our legal system. Prostitution in the US is illegal.
If you are a Citizen of the US and you decide to leave our country, YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW THE LAWS IN THE COUNTRY YOU ARE ENTERING. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to be aware of the laws beforehand. I’ll repeat that for the dad who is upset that his son wasn’t “made aware”, IT WAS HIS RESPONSIBILITY TO BE AWARE OF THE LAWS.
Furthermore, there is only ONE cruise ship that sails under the United States flag and follows the US Law while in international waters. 95% follow the laws of the Bahamas. I am willing to bet he isn’t aware of those either.
He can call EVERY SENATOR HE WANTS, every TSA rep he wants, and every cruise employee he wants- ZERO of them have the ability to preemptively warn his son about every law in every country that he may go into. The TSA also only screens in the situation provided. So, if you are boarding a boat in Florida they are screening your bag (FL) for the boat (Bahamas). They can’t screen for a location preemptively, it would take DAYS to screen the entire boat for the entire trip.

Turks and Caicos is beautiful but I’m sure no harm was meant. We all need to be careful, rules are different everywhere.Brittany the Bastketball player, the guys, others with medications etc….heck some places do not allow you to chew bubble gum in their city. I hope the government realizes the great good is to warm them, fine them, and release them. Otherwise the cruise ships who cater to USA travelers should look to go to other islands….as much as I loved Turks and C. I could no longer support the island or their residents is our own citizens were being held.

I found that the personal responsibility only works in the USA and not when you are visiting other countries.

Americans complaining their citizens breaking foreign laws & going to jail for many years as ‘inhumane’ & ‘cruel’ while finding it fair to sentence anyone in their own soil for years in jail for minor drug offences and even putting people to death via capital punishment for certain crimes that the legal system deem ‘morally acceptable’.
If you break foreign laws, you bear the consequences of foreign punishment. If you don’t agree with it, don’t visit those countries and commit the crime.

People don’t seem to realize that two ‘rounds’ is two bullets that could easily slip into the creases/crevices of a suitcase. Or hide in a side pocket.
I recently cleaned out my husband’s suitcase, and I came across a zipper pocket that I didn’t know was there. It was full of ink pens and a super old package of mints.
They expired 3 years ago! If the pens or mints were illegal he would have been arrested on the last international trip he took.
Judging people we don’t know about a situation that we weren’t involved in doesn’t make a lot of sense.
12 years is insane. God bless all of them and their families.

If someone came to America and broke our laws would you say the same thing?
I doubt many would. Americans need to learn the world doesn’t cater to us. We need to respect their cultures and laws the same we’d expect them to do here. If you’re traveling abroad why would you not double check your luggage if you know you carry ammo in it? No other country is as lax with guns and ammo like the US. They don’t tolerate ANY of it. It’s on the person traveling there to know the local laws and abide by them. Ignorance of the law isn’t an excuse or valid defense.
