Wireless Noise Canceling Earbuds - Bose QuietControl 30 Review & Comparison

  • The Bose QuietControl 30 headphones offer Bluetooth wireless connection to iOS and Android devices allowing you to adjust the level of acoustic noise cancelling. I purchased them because my Bose QuietComfort 20i headphones were making popping noises (perhaps due to the 3.5 mm headphone jack wearing out). With the wireless Quiet Control model I get better performance and don’t have to worry about snagging wires but it’s difficult to charge while using them. The battery life is 10 hours and they still include a microphone for making phone calls and a volume rocker on the left wire. I also own the Bose SoundSport in-ear headphones and while they are less clunky (not having a battery pack or offering noise canceling) I found that their tips were less comfortable over time than the QuietComfort or QuietControl models. My biggest concern about the QuietControl model (and other wireless earbuds) is that they might not pair with certain devices such as the Nintendo Switch. On the flip side, we are starting to see devices now that don’t have traditional headphone jacks at all (such as the iPhone 7) so this is a perfect solution for those. Samsung also introduced a new wireless noise canceling earbud product called the Level U Pro which might work better with Android devices. I avoided this product since I use an iOS smart phone and wanted all of the controls to work properly (ie. double clicking to change songs).

    I've had my QC20 for nearly 3 years and they still work flawlessly. I've used them 10+ hours a day at work, for the most part of 2 years. The only issue I've had is the rubber peeling off the power brick.

    Good review. It's not done in a fancy environment but it turned out you did a much better job than others. Really like your voice and the way you do the review! Very nicely done!

    Nice initial review and comparison, you have a nice, clear voice as well... I have been using mine for 2 mos. now and have been very happy with the purchase. I have been using the jaybird bluebuds x (I still use it but now it only lasts for 5hrs compared to 7hrs before) for the past 2 and a half years, my first bluetooth earphone.
    I only have 2 minor complaints: 1) Would have appreciated a stronger noise cancellation (maybe I have a high expectation after hearing all the praises regarding bose NC (but this is my first NC product)) 2) the neckband tends to rotate a lot when in use (kind of annoying). One more thing, I fear the cover on the charging port might break some day even if you take extra precautions which would eliminate its "water resistance capability" (some say it's water resistant, I tend to believe that given the choice of materials and the way it was built, except for the NC microphone on the buds themselves (not advertised as water resistant though nor was it mention on the box).
    How did it fair against the QC20, the sound and more importantly, the noise cancellation? I expected better NC given that its a new product. It has been 3 years since the QC20 was released and I patiently waited for these wireless version to come out. It's a good product, especially no one manufactures an NC earphone as good as Bose.
    Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

      My neckband/necklace piece also rotates a lot... and always to my left (though I use the headphones a lot when in the car so perhaps my seatbelt is causing it). I like that noise canceling can be turned up or down, I usually put it nearly all the way up and it seems similar to my wired QuietComfort earbuds. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience and feedback :)

      Good call Tom, I saw those recently and they look great... probably wouldn't have the shifting issue I've experienced with the battery necklace thing on these ;)

  • @mauriciojimenezesparza1724

    Good video! Are they comfortable to run? Can I use a 3.5 mm cable to use them without the bluetooth also? Thanks

    Which Is better for noise cancellation? The 20 or the 30? If I buy which one will you recommend? 20 or 30?

    Hey Court hope you are doing great. I have a question- i also acquired QC30 recently but my gripe with them is the medium sized earbud tips are giving me pain - both medium and small size. i gave them time to acclimatize but the tips of qc20's are much more comfortable; so i switched them to qc30's; it can be done was pleassantly surprised and now they feel better . Just want to know if you had a similar feeling, or is it me who find the QC30's uncomfortable?

    Which has the strongest noise cancelling?

  • @withlove1717
    @withlove1717  Před 7 lety +2

    Some other things I've noticed now having the headphones for a while... Sometimes the necklace rotates to my left and I have to straighten it out. When I am listening to music or an audio book and switch to phone calls (or someone calls me) the noise canceling drops way down and I have to either manually dial it back up using the button pad or go into the app and turn it back up... This ALWAYS happens, even when I set the music and phone to the levels I want, each new phone call turns noise canceling way down. Maybe they will fix this with a firmware or software update soon?

    • @-kyleb-6259
      @-kyleb-6259 Před 7 lety +1

      They have already fixed that issue, check the update using the bose connect app.,. Good to know the noise cancelling is as good as the QC20 (a lot of polarizing reviews in amazon, especially regarding poor NC, I was kind of worried I have a defective one knowing that mine was manufactured on Sept. 26 - about the same time this was made available in the market). Oh well, this is the best in ear noise cancelling headphone that's out in the market, I was kind of expecting more I guess (my first bose product and overall I'm happy with it, I was not really blown away though).,. Thanks for sharing your thoughts as well!

      Appreciate your comments KyLeB, yeah I just got the updated for firmware and am excited to see how it changes or improves thins. Still hopeful I can use this with the Nintendo Switch and other devices in the future, not just my phone

      Let's hope it does... Enjoy your new earphones.,. I, on the other hand, am hoping for a truly wireless noise cancelling earphone. Good sound, waterproof, great battery life, no wires, comfortable yet secure fit, plus added features like reliable fitness tracking capabilities. Perhaps in 3 years time?! Let's hope Bose will give this to us without compromises.,. Have a good day Court!

      That would be awesome... I'd also like one with batteries that never expire, I feel like we're getting close to rechargeables that will last a lot longer and for products with a built-in battery like these headphones that's a big deal

      the reason that it turns down is so that you can hear your own voice and not scream at the caller.

    Did you have any issues with the mic quality?

    • @withlove1717
      @withlove1717  Před 7 lety

      Hey Dev, the mic has been working as expected... meaning nobody has complained to me about it or had difficulty hearing. Now, I'm not sure what it sounds like on the other end because I haven't tested with a friend. I get the impression that the filters are good

    • @mreman007
      @mreman007 Před 3 lety

      I loved listening to the QC30 earphones, but found the microphone was too sensitive and everybody couldn't hear me if the was any background noise (traffic, tap running, etc) so I stopped using them for calls unless I was alone in a quiet room (extremely rare).

    Have you tried sleeping with them. Would the collar be an annoyance laying down?

    • @withlove1717
      @withlove1717  Před 7 lety

      Good question, yeah I think it would get a bit annoying but mostly the ear inserts. Even when I'm awake and not putting any pressure on my ears the buds press on my skin over time which becomes slightly sensitive. It's still more comfortable than Apple earbuds and some others but it's not perfect. I'm actually wearing them now as I type this and they feel a little sensitive ;)

    I downloaded the Quiet control 35 manual as an iBook, and it says that you are not supposed to use them while charging them.

    • @withlove1717
      @withlove1717  Před 7 lety +1

      Nice, I wonder if that applies to the QuietComfort wired model as well? I frequently charge while using on long road trips and have noticed some static noise when doing so

      I don't think you are supposed to use the quiet comfort headphones while charging them.

      Haha, that's a great point. I don't own a lot of furniture because I've historically moved a lot and also lived in my car. I like to buy small portable items and just borrow tables, beds, and other furniture :)
