Taylor is THE best. You should check out her Grammys performance of Cardigan/August/Willow 💘💘💘

This video actually picks up from the end of her Cardigan video (off the sister album to Evermore, Folklore)
Evermore was the second of the two surprise albums Taylor dropped during COVID, the first being Folklore. They are both folky and have 90’s indie rock elements. She worked with Aaron Dessner from The National for both these albums. Also, that golden thread that connects her to the gentleman in the video is a nod to the Folklore song Invisible String. I think you’ll enjoy these two albums. I also think you’ll enjoy delving into her back catalog.

Taylor wrote Evermore and her other album, Folklore, during the quarantine. They both have a lot of songs about unusual perspectives of love. It would be nice if you react to Cardigan, August and Betty, from Folklore. She created a trilogy with them, it tells a story from a point of view of three different people, her narrative is insanely good. No body no crime is a fun song too, is from Evermore and have an interesting narrative as well

Just throwing here some songs/music videos/live videos you should check:
    - Cardigan (actually the video for willow is the part 2 of the story, cardigan is the part 1)
    - Out of the Woods (my favorite music video of her career)
    - The Man
    - I Did Something Bad (live at the reputation Stadium Tour) - both The Man and IDSB are about misogyny and male privilege, but written with two VERY different takes.
    - All Too Well (live at the reputation Stadium Tour) - probably her best written lyrics, EVER.
    - New Romantics (live at the 1989 World Tour) - a very fun and upbeat song she wrote about her fans. it warms my heart.

Hey new to your channel. Nice reaction. Glad to see this. Always nice to see new to Taylor reactions, I'm a new to Taylor myself during pandemic. Here are some things to know.
    1. She writes all her songs. She is a lyricist. Aaron Dessner (The National, Big Red Machine) produced and wrote the track, she wrote the melodies and lyrics. She always writes the lyrics.
    2. I had only heard her radio hits as well, I did the deep dive and realized those are NOT her best. Same for me, I kept hearing about her and just didn't get it. So, I went down that rabbit hole and now I get it.
    3. She does all genres, which keeps it interesting. Country, country-rock, country-pop, pop, pop with RnB influences, and alternative/indie.
    4. Cardigan is the companion video to Willow. The songs are not connected, but the MVs are. She directed them both. She also directed the Man, and was the first woman to win best director.
    5. Folklore won AOTY last year and evermore is it's sister album. These albums focus on lyrics, storytelling, which are her strengths.
    6. She was signed at age 14. She is a songwriter. Period. When critics didn't think a teenager could be writing the songs, she answered with her 3rd album Speak Now in which she wrote entirely herself at age 18-19. Critics never said another word.
If you want to go down this road, its a long road. She has nearly 200 songs in her catalog. Please do it though. I found it very rewarding when I decided to do it. But, I'd suggest doing it in some organized fashion. Start at the end, move backwards or start at the beginning and move forward. Or go through one album at a time. Her albums are concepts usually, and they are meant to be listened to all at once, not a few here or there. Since you started with Willow, which is on her latest album evermore, maybe that would be a good place to start. Evermore is known for its storytelling, lyrics, indie-style with Aaron Dessner producing most of it, and it is alternative/indie with pop influences. It is the companion to folklore. Evermore is fall/winter while folklore is spring/summer. evermore explores the way relationships end, all types of endings, all the facets that go with endings. folklore is about resolutions, talking through something, apologizing, communicating through something. I hope this is something you decide to do. Best listened to with headphones and paying attention to lyrics.
She has a nice voice, it can be powerful, but not on these albums. They are very soft, lower register, just very soft. Other albums like 1989 and Reputation will focus more on more powerful vocals.

omg this is so exciting. i think she is an amazing artist and such an incredible lyricist. she writes all of her songs.
she does have a lot of pop songs but she’s definitely not just a pop singer
folklore and evermore were both released in 2020. folklore in july and evermore in december. i absolutely love both of those albums.
so folklore is an album of stories that taylor imagined, if you’re interested cardigan, august and betty (from folklore) are connected and you should listen to them in that order.
also the video for cardigan is connected to willow. willow starts where cardigan ends so you’d be watching them out of order but that’s ok

Taylor's music is a genre. You might like her Reputation album, but if you decide to go all-in then you should start either at the beginning of her career or from her last album "evermore" and work your way back.

I'm so excited you're reacting to Taylor!!! This album is my personal favorite at the moment. I would LOOOOVE a Taylor journey for you and I really think you're going to have so much fun. However, Taylor's albums come in eras. You CAN jump around, of course, but being such a Taylor virgin experiencing each mood or story all together as it's meant to be listened to would be quite a cool thing to do. You could even start right here with Evermore and then go backwards. Or start at the beginning and watch Taylor grow up. Her lyrics have always been so personal to her it really is kind of like doing that. And would be really interesting to watch you do and talk about. Just an idea nugget 😁

Taylor Swift is one of the best lyricists/songwriters in music today. It’s absolutely incredible how many gems there are in every album. You should react to her Artist of the Decade AMA live performance!! It takes you through every era of her music up until folklore and is also an impressive show of her vocal stamina

  • @Mravenrocks
    @Mravenrocks Před 2 lety +5

I'm mostly a rock guy (some of my favorite bands are The Police, G&R¡s, Nirvana, Oasis) but Taylor has been my favorite non-rock artists since 2007. Her lyrics are wicked good and she writes some of the cachiest tunes ever.
Most people will tell you to check out Folklore songs and Evermore songs because those are her newest albums, most songs in those albums are amazing but I will give tell you a few songs from other albums that are amazing:
-Cruel Summer (from the Lover album)
-Dear John (from the Speak Now album, has a super cool guitar all the way through)
-State of Grace (from the Red album, is a stadium rock kinda song).

Taylor is such a lyrical and melody queen! There isn’t a single song or music video of hers she doesn’t have a say in. Check out “my tears ricochet”. It’s about the betrayal of her previous label. She related it to a divorce !!!! They were selling her songs behind her back. Hence why she needed to buy her own music and now she’s re recording her previous albums

  • @oriyanbarnes
    @oriyanbarnes Před 2 lety +1

Taylor's "thing" is that she writes all of her songs, she is an incredible poet and even in her more pop tracks the lyrics are still there.
In her third album Speak Now she wrote it all by herself without anyone else after some critics doubted that she actually writes her own songs and the album is a banger!
I think you should react to the music video of Cardigan. It is from her album folklore which came out a few months before evermore, and the music video for Willow picks up right where the Cardigan music video ended so it's really cool and i think you'll like it🖤

Thank you for enjoying and being opening minded towards Taylor. esp. when you know nothing of her music besides her biggest hits! because her singles (the big hits) are usually her worst songs of each album (except willow and Blank Space). but yeah, Taylor writes all of her songs herself (she wrote her entire 3rd studio album by herself between the ages of 18-19 to prove to critics that she's the one writing all of the lyrics and even there are more than 1 credit on her songwriters, they're usually the producers, cause they even say she's the one writing all the lyrics. i'm so pumped for more Taylor reactions. folklore and evermore are albums she wrote songs, not necessarily about herself or her life, but imagined, made up stories or songs about people she hadn't met and read in the books about them, or people she wished she had never met (that's how Taylor described it). there are songs about her. but they very poetic. here are some recommendations:
    exile: czcams.com/video/o5SQIECedTY/video.html
    champagne problems: czcams.com/video/wMpqCRF7TKg/video.html

Her and Joe Alwyn a.k.a William Bowery wrote 2 songs on Folklore
    Exile Feat. Bon Iver
    Betty
    He also produced
    Exile
    My Tears Ricochet
    August
    This Is Me Trying
    Illicit Affairs
    Betty
    On Evermore they wrote
    Champagne Problems
    Coney Island Feat. The National
    Title track Evermore
Joe finds it flattering that swift writes about him and a lot of the songs on Reputation, Lover, Invisible String, Peace and The Lakes on Folklore are about him
