    she's one, if not the best songwriter of our generation, I'll say that Taylor's strength is her lyrics. She also writes every song she sings, some with co-writers and a lot of the times on her own. Her way with words is unmatched so if you like poetry, stories you would appreciate her work especially with folklore and evermore, but she has some mainstreams too (if you're interested) from her pop and country albums.

    This song is from her newest album, "Evermore". That album and the one before, "Folklore", are both very indie and folk inspired, while previous albums are pop, and before that, country albums. If you want a song with incredible lyrics, I recommend "Champagne Problems" by Taylor Swift. It's so nicely written. All of her songs are, but I believe that Folklore and Evermore are the two albums where she really shines because every about them are so mature (not to say her previous albums aren't also incredible, and "All Too Well" from her Red album is iconic)

  • @Mebo4001

    Exile- from folklore
    Champagne Problems- Evermore
    Folklore was recorded in isolation - they never got together to even play the album until after it was released!
    Taylor Swift - the Long Pond Sessions is awesome!!!

    "All Too Well" is one of my favorite lyrical masterpieces - the live performance she did on the Grammys is the best. Her lyrics from the beginning, when she started singing songs that she wrote at the age of 14-15, up to present day are all incredible! She's a genius at writing a story that includes metaphors, innuendos, and references to her other songs that continue a story.

  • @vbgirl4050
    @vbgirl4050 Před 2 lety +13

    You were spot on with the rope metaphor/image. She has a song on folklore called invisible string which talks about fate and your experiences in life leading to where you need to be to meet the right person. There’s a lyric “one single thread of gold tied me to you” which is portrayed in this video where the gold string leads her to the man.

  • @ChitterChatChipmunk
    @ChitterChatChipmunk Před 2 lety +2

    The line “life is a willow and it bent right to your whim”, to me means her life and not life in general. It seems like she’s talking about a relationship that changed her life, “wreck my plans, that’s my man”. When you’ve been in multiple relationship you feel like you instinctually know what some one is like based on your previous experiences, but “the more that you say, they less I know” says that this guy is changing her way of thinking, he’s not what she expected. At least that’s what I took from the song.

    Evermore is my favorite album but I could never try to pick a favorite song of hers.
    The most fun thing about folklore and evermore is while she borrowed from plenty of her own experiences (sometimes obviously, especially in evermore) they're both made up of songs telling stories of characters she created for them... all the songs are connected to the lives of these characters in some way and vary from pov to pov.

    This is what genius has to say about the ‘lost in your current like a priceless wine’:
    ‘This lyric back to line first line of this verse. It references how, during the Renaissance, expensive foreign wines being shipped across oceans were often lost in shipwrecks. When wine sinks to the ocean floor with a ship that carried it, it can undergo extensive aging which will often make it highly prized when the contents are recovered. Examples of include the Baltic sea shipwreck and the titanic’.
    Its amazing how she uses this ideology to represent herself as the wine that Increased in worth only because she was amongst his currents. Such a powerful writer.
    Really need to take notes during her songs.

  • @unusingmarma
    @unusingmarma Před 2 lety

    In opinion, this video describes her early life till now. On early days, she searched for real love but didn't found it. She thought she found her love but it didn't, so they fade away. When she rose to her fame (the glass box scene), she nearly found her love, but the media screwed it. So, she went down, literally (reputation era). She danced along her bad image (created by the media), and there was her lover, too. He didn't left her during her worst time, but Taylor didn't realize at first. At last, she realized her lover was there all time and a single thread of gold tied her to him (describe in 'invisible string' song from folklore).

    Folklore and Evermore are a different style of Taylor - stretching her magnificent pen. Many of Her songs have messages for her fans. Track 5 on her albums are special and chosen for a reason usually most personal to Taylor. Track 5 on Folklore was the first song written for the project. It’s called My Tears Ricochet. Before listening to it - the backstory is a must! Taylor signed with Scott Brochetta when she was in her teens. She made her first 5 albums with him. He owned her masters and she wanted to buy them- he didn’t sell them to her- so she changed record labels in order to own her masters going forward. When she left Scott sold her masters to Scooter Braun sold the one person he knew she disliked (strongly). Taylor considered Scott family and this hurt her deeply. There was a media war and Taylor finally came out to speak her truth instead of just letting them lead with the narrative making her look like the one in the wrong . This is her song to Scott - by what she has eluded to.

    Taylor Swift wrote folklore and evermore as storytelling not necessarily related to her or her life. However, "Willow" as I see it at least, is one of the ones that goes back to it. "Life is a willow and it bend right to your wind" . I think this another variation of what she says in "invisible string", that every other relationship and dramas in her life were the path she had to travel to arrive at her current partner. Her life like a willow bended to the wind of her now current partner. And they started as a no strings attached thing and there were a bit of games sometimes "Like you were a trophy or a champion ring
    /And there was one prize I'd cheat to win" and "Every bait-and-switch was a work of art". But she started to fall in love "Head on the pillow, I could feel you sneakin' in
    / As if you were a mythical thing"

    If you want to understand the concept of the video for willow you should listen to the song 'invisible string' which is about that string of destiny tying her and her longtime boyfriend Joe together. There's a bunch of other references to the folklore album in this video but I think it's easier to build up a base knowledge first before getting hyper specific for every song because the amount of layers of references and context is confusing at first.

    Ahhh Taylor! Yesss. The lyricism. Youve come to the right place. This video goes with the Cardigan video. So, you should do Cardigan to complete these two music videos. She also directed them both.
    Folklore and evermore are heavy on the lyrics. If you like lyrics…. So many symbols, it’s all metaphors and puzzles. She started in country music so she took that storytelling aspect of country music to pop music and now with this more mature/folky vibe. Queen of storytelling.
    With that said, finish the two videos by reacting to Cardigan (nominated SOTY). Then since you started with Willow on evermore…. Continue with a few hot takes from that album:
    1. Champagne problems
    2. No body no crime
    3. Evermore
    4. Gold rush
    5. Tis the damn season

    you mentioned the video is like a novel.. it's actually a depiction to Taylor's career. It started from her childhood when she started as a country singer, then she sang in the glass box portraying the peak of her career with 1989 album, then right after, she met her downfall (due to her feud with Kanye West) which led to her Reputation album which has witches reference, and finally she returned to her root/home.
    The gold string was a reference to the line "One single thread of gold tied me to you" from one of the tracks off folklore called "Invisible String".

    Im so glad you're exploring Taylor!! As someone who loves lyrics you are in for a wild time. Willow is honestly one of her songs I have the hardest time interpreting as well so you did amazing. To me it's always felt like the story of a girl who's loved a boy since they were little and the boy always kind of knew things would lead back to her so he took his time and "strayed" and "bent life to his wind" and eventually realized that the girl was Home and the path he wanted all along. For next songs I'd LOVE if you did Champagne Problems or No Body No Crime. Someone already mentioned the love triangle in Folklore but in Evermore there's also two songs that tell the story of a couple from each perspective which is super fun to analyze: Tis the Damn Season & Dorothea

    i want you to react to No Body No Crime so bad! It's my favourite song on Evermore and it shows how good of a story teller Taylor is. Loved your reaction!

    Since you've reacted to Harry Styles and now Taylor Swift you should do the Cardigan by Taylor Swift and Falling by Harry Styles mashup that is made with the 2 music videos. The videos/songs have the same feel to them that make them fit well together.

    I think the willow tree has very deep roots and it might have something to do with it and with the lyrics "take my hand, wreck my plans, that's my man"

    That gold string represents a song from folklore called invisible string, There's a line from that song "one single thread of gold tied me to you"
    I hope you do more Taylor reactions 😍😍😀😀

    I found your channel because of Lewis Capaldi and since you seem to appreciate lyrics a lot, i wanted to suggest Taylor Swift but i held back myself because "don't force your preferences into others-" and swifties already have bad reputation from being 'excessive' so I'M SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU DID THIS!!

    You should actually do a reaction to both folklore and evermore albums in full because there’s no way we could choose between any of the songs in those albums and the lyricism in them is EXCELLENT

    OH and if you want to hear more about the string that's in the video, check out Invisible String off Folklore, it's very descriptive

    You want more songs that are more like a novel? Try the trilogy in folklore (as others have suggested), No Body, No Crime on evermore, 'Tis the Damn Season and Dorothea on evermore... honestly, there are so many storytelling songs on those two albums. They're so different than what she's created in the past but her lyricism comes through so strong.

    Have been bingewatching your reactions to taylor and just wanted to share my theory on this one... so, the song is clearly about Joe who is her long term boyfriend and on the folklore album they wrote a couple of songs together and he used the pseudonym William Bowery on the credits, which she confirmed on the long pond studio sessions. Sooo my thought since the very first time i heard this was WILLiam bOWey. Nothing is a coincidence with taylor shes a genius who takes pleasure in fucking up her fans emotional health and sanity - AND I LOVE IT!!!

    You should listen to this song and then Ivy. I feel like they go together. Also you mentioned the gold string and it reminded me of Invisible String from Folklore. She sings "isn't it just so pretty to think all along there was some invisible string tying you to me" and then later she says "one single thread of gold tied me to you".

    You need to react to My Tears Ricochet from Folklore, God that song wrecks me everytime. Folklore and Evermore are 2 of the best albums I've ever heard. The sheer talent this woman has in terms of her song writing ability, her vocal range and the unique sounds is inspiring.
