You should test whether prism towers increase or decrease dps when they are connected. For instance, placing two towers together and attacking something VS placing two tower far apart and attacking something.
Of course they do, this is the basic mechanics of prism towers.
@@001010011100101110 I thought the same thing at first, but his suggestion has a point. Example of what he meant was: 2 prism towers together with combined single damage/DPS does 325 damage while 2 prism towers separate but has a same target does a total DPS of 335. It means, it is more practical to have 2 prism towers that are apart because of the higher DPS. What I want to know is, what's the maximum number of prism towers in order to reach the max damage combined? Likewise with the tesla tower + troopers combo.
@@johncrusade1270 Based on what I remember from RA2, 2 connected prism towers always killed what they hit, no matter how many HP it had. I once tested it on a pentagon part in the 6th mission, and the building was gone in an instant. In Yuri's Revenge, the instakill was not a thing against buildings anymore, but I think still against units (long time ago, I can't be sure). I was always annoyed by the targeting logic, the first tank coming in died immediately, but after that for some reason the prism towers decided to not link their second shot (and the second tank didn't die). Third shot was linked again, 4th wasn't, etc.
In The Mental Omega mod, each tower linking with another increases the shot damage by 25%, so 1 tower linking with another one has 125%, while 2 towers separately do 200%. Overall, 8 towers can link with each other, and in the mod the linking logic has been improved. Additionally, linked towers have +1 range.
The main point of the link mechanic is that you can defend multiple entrances with the same group of towers. A set of towers through the entire base will fire at tanks attacking from the left side, or the right side (for example). I know I got this wrong quite often, building 3 towers on the left side, and 3 on the right side, instead of making a link of 4 in total through my base.

I'm wondering if they considered letting prism tanks boost the towers and give them the shattering shot. Seeing how powerful prism towers are when they can do that, that would explain why they didn't.

This is interesting, but I will add that, unlike some comparisons, this one has very little practical application. This is because you have to defend your base from all angles, whereas they can attack from any angle and thus take your towers on piecemeal. So, in reality, you would actually need far more prism towers than incoming tanks. The Apocalypse Tank is an absolute beast, and my favorite unit of Red Alert 2 by far. Even though I haven't played in many years, I find your videos interesting.

To make a fair comparison you would need to add the costs of the power plants to power the Prism Towers. This was obviously not done for this video.
