I think the main difference here is that the sentry gun needs time to steer its turret but the pill box attacks instantly
Exactly, just like a tank, but those without rotational turrets like battle fortresses, tank destroyers and mirage tanks.
Very interesting learning about all the subtle differences of all these things in the game

Don’t forget that each pillbox is manned and thus a life is lost with each one. Therefore the sentry gun wins as it has more kills.

What is their problem? Its not like we have kids near our PC, they're just saying those to troll us. Both pill boxes and sentry guns have the same stats but the pill boxes win. Because sentry guns takes time to rotate to attack enemies in different directions while pill boxes can automatically attack enemies without rotation.

Seems like sentry guns have higher damage but more aim time... In the start it seemed like the sentry guns would win.
I've always loved Pill Box design more, good to know they're better in a fight as well. Allied defenses aesthetics always appealed to me more, including rockets from Patriot.
i always play Allied and they always have better technology than this soviet side except the main battle tank is rhino the rest of soviet technology is lousy only 3 year old kids say soviet is stronger than bs

@@ductrongnguoidan3314 The Soviets will have stronger tanks than the Allied to compensate for the lack of technology but in parallel, the Allied tanks are cheaper and more advanced but the opposite is true for the Soviet infantry units. Cheap but weak but Allied infantry superior in every way but expensive. I think it depends on the player which side is better.

I thought I saw a test one time where the pillbox had a turning delay that wasn't visible. It's as if the gunners inside the pillbox had to turn.

An M60 in a pillbox is able to destroy a large metal auto-cannon.

Maybe, just maybe, bcoz sentry gun need to move nozzle to change target while pillbox doesn't. Wasting time a little not dealing damage. Still, not sure about which is better dmg.
That is literally the only difference. Sentry gun has to turn to target while pillbox can shoot anywhere in range instantly.
@Vivid Vertigo To me, it seems like the pillboxes have much better target priority, they seem to focus on individual enemies better killing them faster (which reduces the total DPS of the other side). This might be because of the need to turn fucking with the AI targeting. It can't be the time "wasted" during turning because it is very short AND they only turn once a target has been killed, which in most cases will be during their firing cooldown anyway.
@@wellendowedplatypus9024 there's no such thing as getting better target priority.
Everyone/Every object uses the same targetting algorithm it's just that the turret turning is gives a momentary pause(a few frames, making a difference) before it starts shooting again, Pillboxes just get to acquire target faster because they don't need to align their "gun" to the target.
That said, turret rotation speeds can be modified iirc. The Sentry Gun has one of the zippiest turrets in the game, and you can potentially mod it so that the turrets can snap onto targets faster.

I had believed that sentry guns would be more powerful
I would love a mode for ra2 with realistic ranges on all weapons.
I made my own mod of that before. The snipers were OP I had to increase the cost. Aside from that, I also change armor types of some units and buildings so that infantry guns no longer damages buildings aside from rockets or explosives. And I completely revamped the usage of tesla troopers, they now deal area damage and had good armor. They also switch to a different electric gun against vehicles which deals good damage against light armored vehicles.

@Barrick Fischer You should not be surprised. Bunkers are fortified positions in this case reinforced with sand bags to absorb some of the incoming fire. The automated gun turrents have armor but aside from that no cover.

The sentry gun can rotate, but leaves them vulnerable for a while whilst turning.

What the hell I thought sentry gun was the superior anti infantry defense, it just sounds stronger
Stat wise they are identical. The one difference is that whenever they attack a new enemy the sentry turret must rotate to its target before it can begin firing which delays its first shot; the pillbox does not.
The more enemies present the more pronounced this disadvantage gets because these minor delays add up.

Pill box got better defense ,higher damage compare to sentry gun got higher fire rate, better range ,but sentry gun biggest drawback is weak armor, need time to readjust target . That's explain why sentry gun alway lost.
