Farewell to Cardinal Ratzinger

Munich, 1982. After the second invitation from Pope John Paul II to help him in the Roman Curia and having accepted, the then Cardinal Ratzinger said goodbye to his Archdiocese amidst tributes:
Two children spoke sweetly about their origins and how to act in their new life. In his following short speech, the Cardinal said that the bear (symbol of Munich) would be stronger than the shell on his coat of arms, that is, that he wanted to serve all his life in Munich and not be a pilgrim, as the shell in christian iconography.
