Always worth bunging a compression tester on a sketchy engine and putting power direct to the starter, its saved me from going through fitting on several times
Moog's mom is an absolute legend.
Didn’t ask for mums advice on what to do when you’ve installed a wrecker engine with no compression and filled up with full synthetic oil and the good coolant
Seeing the coolant bubble while cranking is a telltale sign it's got compression leaking into the cooling system, when dealing with used motors best thing to do is immediately perform a cylinder leak down test since that will give you an idea of the overall top end health of the engine and is more thorough and easier to perform on the stand then a standard compression test
As an American, the "Big Block" being 1.5L never ceases to tickle me.

Mumsey is a proper legend! Never in a million years would I ever expect my mother to say the sentence "Get a dak-dak and just send it".
You could clearly see the blown head gasket with the compression bubbling the coolant in the fill container. Given there was clear evidence the engine ran hot tells me this thing was well cooked!
As soon as Moog started turning it over and the funnel bucket bubbled at every single rotation of the engine I knew it was cactus
When I swapped my Jimny engine with a trusty EJ25 I wasn't too happy either. I mean, it made 270Kw of turbo power and happy daze but when I went to drive my Subaru it wouldn't go.
Maybe the next engine option is a 2.0L V6 H20A out of a Suzuki Sidekick/Escudo/Vitara
Had same thing with a BMW engine I bought from the scrapper, all the coolant was going into the oil. It's gut-wrenching when you have to pull it straight back out after a bunch of work and get your head around having to do it all over again. On the positive side, the second engine always goes in much easier!
Finally happened after all the engine swaps. You got a dud. You guys have been lucky this hasn't happened earlier! Looking forward to how this gets resolved!
