The way he talks, his pauses and breaks this is almost like a scene from a movie. A true artist, a designer, the last of his kind. What a character, mesmerising interview...
Eminence Grise ....Funny to me what you wrote because I thought....”THE most BORING man I ever heard.”

shoutout to Yohji's Daughter for keeping Yohji going,
what a Legend

When Yamamoto discussed how he disliked the clothing worn by women which was "sexy" and "feminine" I remembered why I like him so much. His rejection of feminine girly clothing in favor of black loose silhouettes is why he's my favorite designer and one of my role models. He doesn't apply the clothing standards of each gender to his works, which is rare to find in the modern world. Expanding on Yamamoto's point about women, this is what he stated in a different interview:
"When I started making clothes for my line Y’s in 1977, all I wanted was for women to wear men’s clothes. It meant something to me - the idea of a coat guarding and hiding a woman’s body... The more she hides and abandons her femininity, the more it emerges from the very heart of her existence. A pair of brilliantly cut cotton trousers can be more beautiful than a gorgeous silk gown."
I was reading other interviews with him and I actually wrote down this quote: “Black is modest and arrogant at the same time. Black is lazy and easy - but mysterious. But above all black says this: "I don’t bother you - don’t bother me"
And this one: “Don’t be one of a group. Be yourself. Stay a little bit monotone - walk on our side of the street, don’t walk the mainstream of fashion. You’ll be polluted by trends”
You can express what so many are not willing or able to...followers of fashion are chained...being what you instinctively are is the essence...not a shadow of others..
Being present to who you are is the
silent way to protest against what is wrong with the world...⭐
YSL started that concept
I mean even with androgynous clothing designers like rick owens there are still big differences betweens the mens and womenswear
yohji yamamoto is the saint I pray to every night
you lost at this point your soul...poor thing!
REVOLUTION CREATIVE i want kiss u so badly but my mouth is busy chewing on doritos rn
Teo Almeida teo you are freakkin cool👍
Teo Almeida get a grip asshole
You never knew if he was making a speaking break or if he was done answering the question
When Yohji said" " I have been losing my competitors year by year, especially clothing designer are decreaing, only stylist. ", we do see the sadness from his eyes, which make me so upset, too. Fashion system now is so money driving.
...it's been a year since your comment but it still holds ... Even in the act of wearing clothes I feel like people in the west are not willing to take chances ... (With the exceptions of my visits over seas) ...this probably starts with the designers themselves who probably just play it safe ... 🤔 ...who knows really
Ima bring the art and passion in fashion back, j watch
Until.
@@kurexx3424 I hope you are still on the grind frendo
This dude's swagger is on another level. Very inspiring
Yohji just oozes wisdom.
Yohji, Jun Takahashi, and Takahiro Miyashita are probably the 3 Japanese Saints that I truly respect and look up to. They all have this down to earth, gnarly feel to them, while still being very avantgarde. Hail Yohji
not to forget Rei Kawakubo!

If you haven't seen it already, search for Wenders' Notebook on Cities and Clothes, basically a long conversation with Yamamoto from the 1980's

A wonderful interview...sensitive true and insightful...a gentle incursion into a very private man's life...exposing to those interested in a life of natural instinct and being truly himself...thankyou for this one..⭐
I have sacrificed myself many times to simply get the opportunity to create something. What a true inspiration!!
Very good interview! Listened with all my attention. Also like the way the guy conducts the interview.
A fantastic and honest interview.
"I'm working in the side (dark) street." Thoughtful man. I have personally never been into fashion, or the fashion industry all that much because it seemed stuffy, full of elitism, & vapid. However, I was just recently turned onto Yohji Yamamoto & his art. He speaks to me & resonates with me so deeply. The forms of design he has created, has been something that I have aimed at with how I dress myself for years now. When one day I felt like I wanted to hide, & just blend in, or not have any attention drawn to me, I started to create outfits that I could "hide" in. They were comfortable, & got people to question their biases of what women should be wearing. The more I listen to Yohji, the more it confirms a need that a lot of us have. I appreciate that he continues to stay true to his core values & doesn't stray too far away from what's important.
He is a saint and Legend who knows fashion inside out..... SALUTE SALUTE SALUTE

Have to say he is my favorite Designer. His story is so inspiring.
Being a Lone Ranger as Mr Yamamoto seems to be …breaking the ground to make his mark in the world of fashion for him was important not to be mainstream…total respect for his gentle yet stoic attitude giving him the ability to be his own identity…a valuable lesson for many who fail at attempting new ideas..thankyou for this interview..
