As a radio operator of about 30 years, it seems that everyone explains it to you like you should know it! If I knew it I wouldn't be asking. Thank you very much for explaining how to program a DMR radio. There are still a lot of unanswered questions, such as what is BrandMeister? I'm sure that over the next few days I will learn more than I probably want to. Again thank you for taking the time to put something into a video. 73 and have a great day, Dick Burkhartzmeyer N2TOY

Thank you for this video. This explained some of the stuff I didnt understand with DMR. Not sure why others couldn't explain it like you did but glad you did and glad I found this video. Thanks so much.

This video was very helpful. I installed a code plug and was able to use existing channels to kind of figure things out. However, your demo and explanations helped burn the info in to my brain better. Thank you!

Well done, give yourself a pat on the back! Just the right level of info to get my 73 year old brain into gear on the subject. Thank you!

Logical and orderly. Just how a tutorial should be. And just what I needed. Many thanks Robert, and for the delivery on Saturday too!
As a result of which, can now feel like I've got not yet a foot in the door but maybe the wee toe?
    Sub'd.

I have just got my first hand held (awaiting Foundation Exam - CC delay !!!) and have found it a mountain to climb (programming) - thanks for your NOOBS video at the right pace (lots are TOO fast) Graham

Really useful and will go a long way to helping get into DMR. Thanks

Thanks for this Robert, I'm new to DMR and finding it very un-intuitive compared to analogue but I think if I watch this several times I should be able to get my rig up and running. Most of the tutorial video's are from over the pond and not really relative to the UK. I have subscribed and will watch your other content. Cheers my friend, 73s, Steve, G6JEF

Many thanks for this Robert. This was really helpful. I do agree that modifying an existing codeplug is probably the best way for a newbie to start, although there is no doubt that there is a great sense of satisfaction to be had by starting from scratch like this.
I'm encouraged to go back to basics with the Anytone AT-D868UV - on the first try I failed to get any audio from an EchoTest - apparently until some Receive Group Lists were added, so this is a step that may be needed on some radio types but not on others?
PS I really appreciated your session at the DMR Breakfast yesterday in Edinburgh. It was a real shame that we never got around to challenging GM7RYR on his boast of building a Hotspot from delivery bag to working in 3.5 minutes! Maybe another time....
    regards
    Bob, MM7PCO

This was fantastic! Your clear presentation of how to program this radio is the best I have seen so far. Thank you for your efforts.
So if I followed along correctly then for each repeater would I need to create a zone with channels set specifically for that zone but could use the original list of contacts since they’re universal?

so that I make sure I understand......talk group, time slot, and color code must match. If just one is off there is no way for my friend to hear me??? In a way its a type of security to keep out unwanted ears so to speak? am I right in thinking this?

Yes, you are correct, they all must match!

Hi Robert - I'm from Edinburgh and looking to return to amateur radio after a 15 year break. I have to admit that all this digital stuff has taken me a bit by surprise so i've spent the last few days trawling CZcams to learn a wee bit about it. Videos like this are just what I need, essential knowledge yet easy to follow so thank you. I've been looking at two possible handhelds for my return. The first is the Alinco DJ-MD5 using DMR, the second is the Kenwood Kenwood TH-D74 with D-Star. Is one better than the other for local (Edinburgh) use or should I be looking at something completely different? I assume you're excellent programming guide will be much the same for either?

Robert - Looking forward to the next one! (no pressure).
PS I wondered if I spotted a slight anomaly. At 18:40, you mentioned that Time Slot 2 also needed to be set up and so Channel EES1TG9 was copied - it was pasted into a new channel, renamed to EES2TG9 and the Time Slot was changed to #2. However, by default the Receive Group was still on TS1, so I'm guessing that no audio would have been received on the Radioddity?

    • @digiham9020
      @digiham9020  Před 5 lety

Hi Bob, the recieve group is just one or more talk groups or contracts grouped together, it has no associated time slot. Time slots are set under the channel configuration.

I already have radio programmed, I want to go back in open radio to read the radio and see where I can add analog channels. Then step by step writing it to radio.

Sorry if this is a silly question as I'm new to this but you mention all UK repeaters are set to cc1, but I found 2 repeaters closest are on cc0 (GB7PT) another (GB7KH) on cc3. Am I missing something? BTW yet to offer this to my Alinco DMR.

I hadn't heard of anyone using other colour codes - but every day's a school day! Thanks for the feedback :-)

I’m just trying to get my head around dmr and found this video very help just a quick couple of questions iv built myself a mmdvm hot spot and I would like that to be added I guess you just need to create a channel and call it hotspot and add the hotspot frequency? The other think is my radio is a Rt3s which is analog as well and I would like to put all the simplex channels in the radio is that pretty straight forward?
