    I dressed up as Scooby Doo when I was young, watched them on Saturday. My dad told my brother and I that malted milk balls were Scooby snacks! I too purchased the set and add on cars. My dad and I added my brothers and his pinewood derby cars from scouts. All eight were Scooby themed including the actual mystery machine, made from 2 blocks of wood. Each one won best design all the way to state level. A perfect addition to this "cool" set. Love your layout and review of the set. My dad and I watched the building of your layout many times it trully is a work of art!

    Nice demonstration of how a first time buyer of a Lionel Train would set up and run the set. Thank You !

    That's why I love the hobby--something for everyone. Guys like me LOVE the toy trains and are not as interested in scale. Your layout, however, is beautiful! Thanks for the review!

    Nice review, I model in HO but have a Lionel North Pole Central set up for the great grand kids. I plan to expand for two trains soon and seeing your review has me thinking about this set. Thanks for sharing 👍👍👍😎😎😎

    Of course Lionel now has the Ready To Play line, which is slightly smaller than G scale with plastic track. And, since 1967, Lionel has owned the American Flyer line which they purchased from A.C. Gilbert. My wife used to have an old A.C. Gilbert American Flyer engine. Being American Flyer it was S Gauge. In the 70s both me and my youngest brother owned Tyco HO Gauge sets. His was the Spirit of '76 set.

    Nice touch that the engine number is 1969, the year Scooby Doo, Where Are You premiered. I'm not sure, but I think Lionel use to also have to pay a licensing fee to the manufacturer of the engines that they replicated.

    Cool. A great add-on car would be a flat car with the Skooby van.

    Transformer control is far from dead, especially for those of us who love the postwar and prewar trains that made Lionel famous. The sweet thing about Lionchief is that you can run it on any layout, an old-fashioned transformer layout, off of its own power track, or on a TMCC or Legacy layout.

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  Před 5 lety +1

      LionChief can only be controlled by the remote it comes with or the LionChief app. It cannot be controlled by a transformer. ONLY LionChief plus engines can be controlled conventionally.

      Just to clarify, I didn't say "be controlled by" a conventional transformer, I said a Lionchief engine can be run on a conventional layout, which is perfectly true. Simply crank the transformer up to supply 18 volts to the track and leave it there, then use the Lionchief remote or the app as usual.
      Apologies for the confusion.

    I got one where it was lion chief and it was 150$ and it could steam and it had very realistic noises in my opinion and was pretty detailed

    Lion Chief is so simple, an adult can use.

    LionChief Plus engines also have cruise control similar to, if not the same as, Odyssey II speed control and fan driven smoke units!

    Believe it or not at 6:00 is what came with my polar express set when it was first launched in the early 2005-2010. Before it became very popular

    Nice thorough review. Pretty train, but it's too bad they didn't include the original cartoon song.

      It’s about 300-400 dollars for a ready to run set like this although at Christmas time some retailers like Kohl’s will have them for 100.00 less than retail.

    can the loin chief sets be ran off the legacy remote system you have?

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  Před 4 lety +1

      No, The Lionchief engines communicate through Bluetooth between the Remote and Engine. The Legacy system communicates through the rail to the Legacy Engines. The latest Legacy engines have both Legacy and Bluetooth receivers now, so you can control them with the Legacy system or the Lionchief app on a mobile device or even the Universal Bluetooth remote. But using a Bluetooth controller with a Legacy engine usually means there will be Legacy feature that won't be useable.
