Great tutorial...I did mine the hard way. Wish I could've gleaned from you before I started my layout but no use crying over spilled milk...keep up the good work.

Thanks Anthony! Getting the method down for the landscaping has been challenging but I have a good repeatable process now :)

Wow that is looking really good GMG!! Best statement "I'ts Friday night, I've had a few beers, and I'm going to have a few more" -
I could not have said it better about how the scenery brings you into that world. Keep up the great work.

The progress is coming along really nicely mate, really enjoying seeing how the table is coming together, personally I think going back to the cement tone is good, the brown might have been darker but I think you were right to make the call it was going to look odd with that pale off white colour

This whole thing with the foam and the coating has been a learning experience. I've haven't done much tinting of material using pigments before and it really depends on the material you are trying to change the color of.
I will definitely be using the Quickcrete pigments for the remaining foam coat so I do not have to paint the foam coat before applying the ground cover/terrain. This method also has another huge benefit if the terrain gets chipped/dinged (and it will) it will not be white underneath.
      Cheers,
      Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)

What's the base of your long flyover? I can see it under the track but can't tell what it is.

    • @garagemakerguy1808
      @garagemakerguy1808  Před 3 lety

Hi Greg, Thanks for watching and the question.
The flyover/overpass is super simple. Total size is 7' long by 10" wide. I used some spare door molding, flipped it upside down, used a few 1 x 4 (3/4" x 3 1/2") pieces about 5" long to space the upside down door molding so that total width extends about 1" on each side of the track. I used pocket screws and wood glue to hold it all together then spray painted it with gray primer. The 1" overhang is for future additions i.e. bridge guard rail/lighting.
      Be safe and have fun.
      Cheers,
      Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)

I'm looking forwad to your Analouge / Digital switch conversion as when I did mine it was not clean and still isn't.

Hi David, Thanks for watching and the comment.
The analog/digital switch is a priority for me and once the landscaping is finished (which will be soon), I will be getting back to more technical content including the A-D switch. I can't wait to enjoy using an analog controller and all of my analog cars on the layout I created.
      Cheers,

      Hi Django,
The table is 16' x 8' with extensions to support the parts of the layout that extend past the table.
      Cheers,
      Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
