at the time, it was not engaged. You're correct that a locker increases the strength of the diff, but the pinion will still move enough to be damaged if you're really hard on it. I have a feeling that it was damaged at other points in the past 6 months- this was just the final straw.

Was your front diff locked when you blew the front diff? I thought a front locker was supposed to remediate the weak front diff on these?
