Cyclops doesn't get the love he deserves, one of the greatest leaders of the X-men.
He was the one to man up after E is for Extinction and House of M. He has always been a part of the X-family and takes a no nonsense attitude to protecting mutants.

Yeah they had to reach to list 10. His actual powers are the lasers and I'd count his spacial awareness/super trigonometry as well as it's pretty super human( even though it's more of a skill than a power) . He's also a very capable hand to hand combatant(Although he's no Black Widow, Wolverine, or Captain America), but again more of a "skill" not an actual power.
Don't forget he's a mutant tactician. Even in his youth he was an undefeated chess champion and when he sees a battlefield, he can accurately deduce the maneuvers of his opponents on a level that is like psychically predicting the battle's outcome. He's like the battle forecasters from 00 Gundam. That is a SICK ability! You've pretty much lost the battle as soon as you started fighting him.
Honestly it'd be cleared up just by saying it as "skills and abilities," since they can still be impressive and interesting even if they aren't "powers" per se.

What about Scott's ability to seduce telepaths? Jean, Madelyn, Psylocke, Emma Frost, and in a non-sexual way (I think) even Xavier and Sinister. I think that must be a subtle power. For example, telekinetic Psylocke has nooooo interest in Cyclops. The seemingly few telepaths who have encountered Scott and not fallen for him seem to be genetically related to him and may have some sort of immunity. Hmmmmm.
I think both jean and emma have commented on why that is, Scott has such a intricately layered and organised brain like everything in the ol summers mind palace is extremely tidy, makes it calming for telepaths
I'd been thinking about a rational for that as well. A fellow like Scott will exactly say and do what he thinks is right, no matter what. For a telepath, the lack of contradictions between thought and action would be as enticing as like staring into a crystal lake. At the same time a telepath could easily drown in that lake. Cyclops would probably be the ultimate obsessive compulsive. Every detail in his life would be planned, compartmentalized, analyzed; because of so much pressure on his shoulders from childhood, literally the survival of his species. That crystal lake would end up being an infinite maze of reflections in itself; like a hall of mirrors on a massive scale, with no doors out.

5:42 I always considered the Jean Grey/Scott Summers DNA cocktail to be attaching the most versatile tool in the house to the biggest battery. Scott's DNA would give is prodigy a multiplying factor of energy and when paired with a versatile energy user (especially a telekinetic telepath), the mutant would be a uranium powered swiss army knife

I actually think Cyclops is a very underrated character. I always really liked him even though some people believe him to be too much of a goody to shoes. Cyclops is another one of those incorruptible heroes in the Marvel Universe and in comics in general.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. I think his Optic blasts should come from the Crimson dimension of Cytorrak the same source where Juggernaut gets his powers seeing as they are both unstoppable and destructive.

Top 10 Super Powers? He only has two, maybe three, his optic blasts (beams of pure kinetic energy), he's immune to his own powers (hence he doesn't blow off his own eyelids), and he's immune to his brothers powers. Everything else isn't super-powers, they're skills. And Visor? That's equipment

I thought he use to touch the visor like each end of the visor had a mechanism that he can turn to open/Clos and focus the visor. That's come from the X-Men animated cartoon and all the X-Men games
Alot of time his hands would be bound (but palms free) and he couldn't use his powers cuz he couldn't reach the visor.

@@aaronjabari6895 no he was always shooting without his hands. If he had to use his hands every time that would be a huge weakness. His enemies would take advantage of that. All you would have to do is grab his arms and he's powerless. Just look up some comic book images you'll see

Cyclops has to have mutant neck muscles too as his optic blasts deal damage due to the 'force' they deliver, meaning that there should be some kind of whiplash effect each time he releases his blasts (I'm not up on the physics of it but something about actions having equal and opposite reactions or something like that). I did know about #9 and #4 though. Also, aren't hands connected by tissue rather than bone? Even normal weapons and people should be able to cut off one of Logan's hands, although you could argue that when his claws are extended that might be impossible...
Except if we're going with portals, Newtons Third Law can act on something in the other dimension just fine. Like poking someone with a spear through a gate... neither the gate nor the fence care.
Unless the "force" doesn't start until it immediately leaves his body... very interesting thought though.

My first introduction to X-Men was X-Factor in the mid 80s, so I have always been a Cyclops fan. I get the fact the teenagers are drawn the the rebellious Wolverine character, both I always thought he was a creepy guy, trying to steal another guys girl, always was with teenage girls(Shadowcat in the 80s, Jubilee in the 90s,) what would he have in common with them? But the writers keep shitting on Scott while Logans healing kept getting more powerful. So I never felt Clermont like Summers. But I would like to see someone do a version of X-Men with the original members just once so people can see a version without Wolverine and let others be the star.
You are possibly on track about Claremont not loving Cyclops as much as Wolverine. I had a conversation with him a few Comic Con's ago and he told me that he saw Jean Grey more with Wolverine as opposed to with Scott. in two minutes he crushed my lifelong love of the Scott/Jean relationship. Damn authorial intent...
I agree the MCU should do the ORIGINAL XTeam at LEAST to introduce them in the beginning of their own movie. Maybe the first half hour then bring us up to speed and take SOME of the spotlight/focus off of Wolverine!

I'd like to see more detail about his optic blasts including how it was affected/changed during and after the Avengers vs. X-Men storyline when the Phoenix Force entered him. You also missed that he's a master at hand-to-hand and once went hand to hand against Wolverine, and was actually winning (like, Wolverine's face got blown off) until they had to both turn their attention to other enemies.

Well what’s funny to me is that both Scott and Alex Summers really have the same powers. They both constantly absorb energy that surrounds them, and then release them using energy blasts. The only difference really is how they release it. Cyclops from his eyes, Havok from his chest.

Early 90's, Cyclops metabolize solar energy and bio chemical energy. They even broke it down to how much energy he gets from a piece of whole wheat toast with extra butter.
Early 2000's, they turned it over to being " eye portals," for greater power out put.
I think I like it better when they used solar energy and high cal snack bars.

Nope. I'm 43 and since I was 12 years old Cyclops's power has been referred to as an optic blast. That did not start in the retcon.
They were never Heat blasts. They were always ruby concussive force. They are still solar powered however. Without solar energy his eyes cannot open that portal to the crimson dimension of cytterak.
Cyclops has always been my favourite x man i feel like the live action movies really tarnished his reputation leaving most fans in the dark about how amazing he truly is he is just as dark and brutal as logan and also the reason tht the pair always butt heads is due to the fact they are both alphas who can go toe to toe he is not that rule enforcing dork the movies have pushed on us

Cyclops was one of my favorites and (movie wise) veeery unappreciated. Never got the credit he deserved theatrically. I was that out-of-nowhere person in the theatre like: "Really?!" "UGH!" "THAT'S NOT CYCLOPS!" "YEAH RIGHT!"
In "Age of Apocalypse", he only blasted the organic matter off Logan's hand.
The bones and claws stayed, which he used in a surprise attack later in the story.
I believe the adamantium from his wrist to the rest of his hand actually got blasted off his claws though retract into the forearm.
I always wanted cyclops to have armor... Captain America's shield or something like that. Wouldn't it be cool if cyclops had an ironman suit where his beams powers the suit? That way he could fly, have armor, and shoot beams from his hands too (like ironman).

When visiting Muir Island in the Excalibur series they developed barriers able to withstand his PSI optic blast, but when trapped in a blast proof room, he concentrated his blast into a minuscule cutter that cut through like a plasma cutter. As well as maneuvering in weightlessness using the blast as a burst thruster. It's his experience this is the most dangerous.

Re: cutting adamantium, I always assumed that Scott cut off Logan's hand at the wrist joint, severing the tendons without actually cutting through the adamantium skeleton.
He actually Smashed the entire hand to pieces. The bones & claws turned to splinters...

None of these r powers... Scott's power is to release extra dimension energy from his eyes, his eyes r gates and that's all he can do.. all the others, learning how to shield his mind, skills, leadership is something he learned through experience
The trigonometry thing I believe is explicitly superhuman, not simply training, though it's always hard to say with X-men because they train their powers.

I'm pretty sure that Cyclops cut Weapon Xs hand off at the wrist, meaning no metal. It is firm that the claws were retracted, but given the number of times they fought and the fact that in that same universe Cyclops later could not cut Weapon X down, it would have had to been at the joint. Which begs the question why he didnt do it again in later encounters

I like Cyclops. I always thought his OPTIC BLAST power was cool! That said, I don't want to sound nerdier than the Nerds but leadership is not a power but a skill and his visor is a tool not a power (as far as I know and understand).I did learn a few things, though. Maybe that's MY superpower!

The movies almost disrespected his character the most, but the comics actually did. I didn't like them making him unfaithful to Jean in later comics. Just such a departure from his character. It just wasn't Scott.
it was the left hand that he severed off and he didn't cut through adamantium, it cut through the cartilage and such that holds your wrist together because Weapon X still had the adamantium claws,
The claws were popped out being used. Logan capped off the hand and later discovered he regrew the claws and regrew the Adamantium since it was organic Adamantium now due to his mutation...

In the Ultimate line, His power was enhanced and his energy came out of every pore in his skin. He could do a lot of thing including fly and survive in space for some reason. I always wondered why it just came form his eyes, While his brother can project it form his hands and feet as well....
In the 616-universe it was mentioned that Cyclops can NOT control his powers because he hit his head after a fall from a plane and got a head injury. I think it was the arc where his father was abducted by some aliens.

What you called " super trigonometry" was actually referred to as enhanced spatial awareness. This allows him to not only know what angle to shoot his beam from, but also to know how intense make it, even without knowing how big the space he's in is.
So if his eyes are portals, could ant man in some sort of special suit travel to this energy dimension by crawling into Scott's eye
