Portmeirion Vlog: Itiwit Inflatable Kayak on Dwyryd Estuary, North Wales

- While we waited for high tide in the Dwyryd Estuary, we decided to explore the beautiful Portmeirion Village shops before popping into the nearby town of Porthmadog for a quick poke about. We had been alerted by a local, there was a particularly good antiques shop with lots of well priced items, mum could not get there quick enough😆 We parked for free near the Porthmadog harbour and were just in time to catch the stunning and historical Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway steam train pull into the station.
After a lovely chat with the ladies in the Porthmadog Antiques Shop, we headed off with our purchases, back to Portmeirion to get our gear ready for a paddle out into the Estuary, and my dads maiden voyage on an inflatable kayak😀
The water was high and relatively still, just right. We got my dad first, then set off towards the tidal island of Ynys Gifftan. However, dad found the cramped sitting position and the stronger tide closer to the island made his breathing laboured. Ceri decided it wise to turn back and adventure closer to the mainland. Turned out to be great decision because that is where they discovered a hidden cove and passed over a sunken sip, a rather awesome adventure if you ask me!
Another really brilliant stay in Portmeirion, a magical place. We've made such special memories here and highly recommend a visit💗

Always fancied going to Portmerion but never managed it...yet. Looks like I need to make more of an effort. It looks fabulous from your video. I think The Prisoner was a bit before my time tho 🤭I'm also not so sure about the bacon jam. I stayed in Porthmadog last September for a long weekend but didn't know it was that good at the harbour. Looks like I missed out. I was always just going in the opposite direction for the mountains. The railway and harbour looked fantastic for an explore. The guest viking raider took to the task very well. Portmerion looks very hermit friendly and peaceful. I guess it's not like that in high season? Thanks for showing me a few places I've been missing out on. Enjoyed watching and meeting Kat's parents 👍 Paul

This area of North Wales is an overload of places to explore, Portmeirion should definitely top your list when your next around 🏴 Porthmadog is an excellent mountain HQ, everything you could need, and more! And yes, I would definitely not recommend it being hermit friendly in peak season. Early and late in the year is much more hermit friendly 😀

Well I say it every time you are there, we really must go to Portmirion, it looks great and I have a mate who goes there twice a year (it's his holidays) and has done for years. Have to be honest, I thought your dad was going to pull out a couple of bits of flapjack from that paper bag and not passports 😟 but the Pot Jam shop was a haven of loveliness, although, not that keen on the 'bacon jam'😳. Must admit I wish we lived that that half, lunch stop looked great and what a view to enjoy it with too. Well done to Bill for free Porthmadog harbour parking and very brave of him too - not the paddling, the costume 😁. Like No. 32 from me and a very Happy New Year to you all, cheers Alan

Geez this place is so amazing! Those colours and the sunshine! And all the small shops and museums! Bacon jam is something I tried actually, you can get those stuff here in the handcraft markets and it is lovely :) I even ate a hamburger with bacon jam :)

I remember speaking to a Welsh taxi company at work and the first time trying to pronounce Porthmadog 😂 "Can you do lifts to Port Mah Dog?!" 😂 Safe to say they had no idea what I was saying or just purely enjoying the fact that I butchered the name!

I think my first step into unguided kayaking will be either with a neighbours kayak if i can convince them or rent one on our next hols. Tonights collabs are all 2022s. Missed the notification on this last night guys as I was editing. So good to watch over breakfast and Bill is a natural ! Haven't been to Portmerion since being pregnant with our son so it was great to look around again especially at night, It's an amazing place and i loved the snones and tea set up with the tea in the beautiful Portmerion pottery, and those waffles you shown are wonderful, we get them in when visitirs come ! Loved the kayak journey and the wig 🤭 and Bill did great seeing as though it was his first time, such a very beautiful area. Porthmadog is one of our very favourite places especially the harbour area, and the Ffestiniog Railway is so special. Loved that you got recognised too 😃Really enjoyed this, you showcased the area very well and it's great that you had such nice weather. Diolch yn fawr 😃🏴❤️👍 ~ Anna

Yes, Kat is using an online app to learn Welsh. She practices every day, really enjoying it! I have tried and will continue to learn, too, but I am much slower than Kat with how I pick things up 🤓 🐌

Hello Ceri and Kat......I'm a sucker for a nice Christmas bauble too....especially one bought on my travels. I really fancy a bit of sea kayaking but have horrible visions of being swept out to sea, never to be seen again, or getting dashed on the rocks 😬. ATB for the New Year, Chris.

I can't believe it took me 5 minutes to twig that it was *that* Portmeirion. The biggest hint was when Ceri said 'we're going to take you into the Prisoner gift shop next'. 😂I thought it had looked familiar. Amazing place, I expected Patrick McGoohan to jump out at some point. Except for him being terminally late of course. I must say, Bill would pass as a reasonable facsimile of Patrick. Nice job, it was a lot of fun.
