      Just joined mate. Always appreciate your work. You've overcome a lot to keep this channel going.
      I'm an Aussie who also has family heritage in the Wrexham area.
      Wrexham having CASH is simply what is required of a lower division team to just survive let alone rise.
      Constant exposure in press, fantastic ! Keep the momentum. Overseas fans, even better. I'm sure the top clubs like Liverpool, Man utd etc don't begrudge those overseas dollars for merchandise. It's how it's done these days.

    As an American fan watching every game through iFollow, I'm rooting for the Wrexham fans. One of the oldest clubs in the world and fans who've bled their own resources to keep the team going, I can only hope that in 10 years you see your team at the top half of the Championship or maybe even in the Premiere League. Regardless I love the hope and joy you are experiencing. All sports fans go through tough times and you deserve this moment of joy.

    "They hate us because they ain't us!"
    But really, what fan wouldn't want their team to get a financial injection and the exposure that Wrexham have received? If you go to any League 1 or 2 city and tell them a Hollywood A-lister or a wealthy business owner wants to buy their team, upgrade the facilities, upgrade the roster and partner with Disney or Sky TV to do a documentary series, are any of them going to say they aren't interested?

As far as I'm concerned, R&R did me a favor with the exposure to the Wrexham community, and with iFollow I now have a football team to watch while I yell at the TV 😁⚽🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

    ...not everyone 😜. I took my brother on a trip this past August to England to watch some football. Even though we could not arrange our schedule to see Wrexham play a match, I told him we are going to Wrexham in any event and have a drink with Wayne and crew in the Turf Pub. We did exactly that and spent an entire evening hanging out with the great people of Wrexham. If people don't like Wrexham, they're just jealous of their good fortune. I understand their anger for sure, but that's life. Whether it is Man City, Chelsea, or the NY Yankees having great teams due to their owners money, it's going to upset someone. Thanks Wayne, thanks crew, thanks Wrexham from a US fan...and thank you Liam! I'm a fan of your channel too!

    Wrexham have been at the bottom for long enough, isn't it time they had something good happen for them? not forgetting that the new ownership have been quite clear about their goal to not only grow the club but to benefit the Wrexham community as a whole.
    Rob and Ryan are not only paying lip service to the Wrexham community but are out there actively engaging with the folks of Wrexham and helping build the already strong spirit of the community even more, not many team owners in football can make that claim.
    To the haters I would ask, "If Rob and Ryan were doing what they are doing to Wrexham to your club, would you be hating on them still?" I very much doubt it..
    It's wonderful to see the Wrexham supporters doing what they always do (remember how these same supporters put their own money in to buy the club to keep it alive?) backing their team through thick and thin and now the support base has exploded not only nationally but internationally and long may it continue.
    Go Wrexham!!
    Love from New Zealand

    If any fan base that has been through what Wrexham fans have been through with the Hamilton and Wrexham Village years and fans digging deep in their pockets to save the club, the first club to have a points deduction for.going into administration and being relegated as a result, the relentless disappointment of failing to gain promotion since dropping into non-league in 2008, the possibility we could have been relegated to National League North if covid hadn't cut short the 2019/20 season, then there's no way the fans of any lower league club would have turned down the chance of Rob and Ryan buying the club. If they say they do, they're lying. If the fans had voted against the takeover, the alternative reality would probably be us still struggling to get out of the National League, Rob and Ryan taking over another club and rival fans pointing and laughing at us at what could have been. For this reason, I don't care what negative things other people have had to say about us and I'm just enjoying the ride. Rob and Ryan have not only been great for the club, but also the morale of the people in the area, the local businesses and the local economy and I wouldn't have it any other way (except for Wrexham not voting for Brexit and electing a Tory in 2019).

Ask if the fan base as grown/exploded? I for one is grateful, not so much who bought the club but the personal story about their players and towns people. Love the personal touch.

    • @davidmiddleton6479
      @davidmiddleton6479 Před 3 měsíci +8

      It’s not a difficult ask. answer is pretty straight forward. We haven’t had the same starting 11 on the pitch since maybe October. Can’t fully jell and play as a team if you’re constantly switching out players with different strengths and weaknesses. That being said, the bigger reason is we are everyone’s cup final. We sell out every away game. In football, it makes a huge difference. Look at our home form versus away. There’s a reason for it. Not an excuse, it’s the reality of it. We are the scalp that everyone wants. If we make it to L1 this year, it won’t be as bad. Lots of other clubs have the same or more resources and better infrastructure than we do. Fans more worried about getting to the next level and not dropping to L2 than to worry about Micky Mouse. I’m not speaking for Liam, but I am a lifetime football fan, player and still licensed referee. I see things that casual observers can’t or won’t.

      @dscott6629 Před 3 měsíci

      @iddleton6479Not arrogant at all. But then I might be biased as my thoughts on the subject echo yours. I will also add that the quality of this division is better overall than last year's and because of that the competition is better able to adjust to Wrexham's style of play, making for a more difficult second half season.

    • @DraigBlackCat
      @DraigBlackCat Před 3 měsíci +1

      For some reason there seems to have been a reluctance by Parky to play Ollie Palmer, despite figures showing Mullin and Palmer are our best strike pairing. It could be that having signed some bigger name players then Parky has felt pressure to play those players - although there have been injuries and suspensions to contend with and our finances paying for a bigger squad helped us last season.
      There are some far better keepers at this level too, including those like Okonkwo who are out on loan from teams is higher divisions, who wouldn't dream of accepting a loan to a national league team.
      One thing we could rely on was that Wrexham would be fitter than many other teams in the national league so we could wear them down then run riot for the final 15-20 minutes of the game.
      This season there isn't that fitness difference. Just look at the respective tables, at the top of L2 - there are 9 teams within a twelve point spread. In the National League there are seventeen points between top placed Chesterfield and second placed Barnet! It is easier for a club to spend their way out of the non league - no financial fair play rules, fewer transfer window restrictions and a few quality signings can have a much bigger impact, when most clubs can't afford to pay transfer fees or high wages.
      Four L1 teams drop down to L2 and, with us also being every teams cup final (an opportunity for players to put themselves in the shop window), it all adds up to make L2 games more competitive plus there is more to fight for, with 3 guaranteed promotion slots then another four play-off slots for teams to fight for - with two-legged matches rather than single leg matches in the national league play-offs.

      A bit of a reality check here is that virtually no one outside of Great Britain really knows (or cares) about the variety of British-ness these British-y people are. It adds a bit of interest with the language and all, but beyond that you could've done it with a club more or less anywhere. The Sunderland netflix doc is pretty solid proof of that.

  • @paulbadertscher
    @paulbadertscher Před 3 měsíci +4

    Canadian (though born American with Welsh roots) here. Solid analysis, Liam. I think most of it is down to jealousy though I understand how the "American" influence grates in the UK. That said, it's pretty ironic, as Rob strikes me as very unlike the "stereotypical" American. He's ready to learn about other places and languages, he recognizes the uniqueness of Welsh culture, he talks about his working-class roots. And I think both Rob and Ryan have approached their ownership more like stewardship - they're not in it for the money (though their investments may well pay off), they're in it to help this club and this town and, most importantly, the people of this town who deserved a break after some pretty lean years.
    So yes, I've jumped on the bandwagon for the past 3 seasons but it's because they've made me aware of this great, compelling story loaded with fantastic characters (not the owners, and not just the players, but also the people attached to the club and the people of Wrexham.)
    Keep up the good work, Liam - I think you've got quite the future ahead of you.
    One question for you, maybe this would make a good (part of a) video... "Let's pretend it's August 2028, and after some incredible seasons Wrexham have climbed the pyramid and been promoted to the Premier League. They're about to play their first match of the season. Are there any players on this future squad who were here now? Put another way, could Wrexham make it to the Prem with any of the players they now have? Or would that require an entire roster turnover?"

    If anyone harbours 'hate' for Wrexham because they're 'buying their success', then that's one of the most hypocritical things I've ever heard! That's literally how the biggest, most successful clubs on the planet go about it! I wonder if those same people hate all the top-tier uncapped clubs that do exactly same thing to a significantly larger level!? I think envy is a more suitable word than hate!

    People who are throwing hate to Wrexham AFC, Rob, Ryan and the fans have basically the same toxic quality as those people getting angry at Taylor Swift coming to few NFL games. Just because it doesn’t benefit their team, they can’t be happy for the opposing team. I bet if that happened to their own club, be getting favorable results and exposures, I’m sure they be over the moon about it.

      Fleetwood and Forest Green did things a bit different. They dangled the golden carrot to the best players from their biggest competition to tip the balance. Wrexham haven’t done that. It was annoying when those clubs did it and while they’re not my favourite clubs I wouldn’t say I hate them. They’ve managed to punch well above their weight for a long time now in fairness.

      @geronimo825 Wrexham certainly did that to win promotion. In fact, I think Wrexham spent far more than Fleetwood did, and yes, Wrexham fans threw so much hatred at Fleetwood when Fleetwood just pipped Wrexham to automatic promotion and then Wrexham blew it in the play offs.

    I’ll give you one name, Shaun Harvey, this is a man who helped kill off Bradford City, when he was on the board there in 2002, and did the same with Leeds United, five years later in 2007, two of Yorkshire’s most historic clubs, then he became chief executive of the EFL in a time where, Bolton, Orient, Birmingham, Blackpool, and of course Bury all had owners that he deemed fit and proper, as the clubs all suffered badly (and I’m sure there’s more) now he’s reeled in two Hollywood actors, revived Wrexham and is seen in the series as a hero, the man is a fraud, with far too many skeletons in his closet, and also smugness of some of their fans is insufferable beyond words, we didn’t want them to go up last season but at the same time we were glad we saw the end of them, good luck to anyone and everyone in League 2 who faces them, p.s. I know they are your team and you might hate me for saying all of that, while I am happy to see any historic club have a comeback, ultimately this one is different in a way I don’t think is fair, for the other clubs still suffering and I can imagine there are some Wrexham supporters who might not be comfortable with the success they’ve achieved, but you can tell me otherwise.

    • @drwatsonca6945
      @drwatsonca6945 Před 2 měsíci

      Do you really think this team was even going to stay in the fifth level without getting a cash input. you can't live your life based on how poorly other teams are doing. Not one of them are doing well and that has nothing to do with Wrexham. you seem to believe of some people are suffering everyone should be suffering. They can't help it if someone buys there team and wants them to do well. The fans were in the fifth for a long time and they have a right to be smug at the moment. the only people in Wrexham who want their team to have failed or not been bought are those who love being the underdog all the time and being the underdog allows them to excuse their bad feelings. there are people who will never accept success since they base their feelings on the failure of others. Try to not to bury Rob's efforts and desire to buy a team. he was going to buy one and it was his decision based on his evidence not anyone else's to buy this team. you don't last the number of years on tv that he has and still be considered a sucker. don't whine about money either since all the top teams have even richer owners. If you don't have money you don't win unless of course you don't want to win.

    • @styepen602
      @styepen602 Před 2 měsíci

      @@drwatsonca6945 I do not believe everyone should suffer, look at the amount of teams that are struggling financially and with owners that couldn’t care less about them, Rochdale, Reading, Derby (who seem to be coming back), Oldham, Sheffield Wednesday etc and then in the national league the teams that Wrexham played last season, include the likes of Aldershot (went bust twice) Halifax (went bust in 2008) York, Torquay (currently having financial difficulties in league below) Southend and Scunthorpe, all of who are similar sized clubs to Wrexham, or least have been in the past 20 years or so, I don’t want any of those clubs to suffer, but sadly in the modern football world they do, and these are clubs that share many football league years between them, if they were all out of debt and financially the same in the division (which is one of the hardest in the country with only one automatic promotion spot) then I of course would congratulate Wrexham, as I did when Notts County got promoted via the playoffs and as I recently did when Chesterfield came back, I respect those teams, but how would you feel being an Aldershot fan, being a Torquay fan, being a Halifax fan, etc. going through years of watching the team your loyal to, with your small group of friends, struggle on and off the pitch, and then play a team whose the opposite (good for them) and they have a series on tv, which has given them worldwide fame, making us The ‘Hollywood Villains’ of their story, we have nothing go for us, as have many teams in the EFL, but the one team that does, that gets more money and fame, than to be blunt they probably deserve, has everything going for them, it’s unfair on us, we’re not jealous, we all deserve better, a fair share, and now knowing the fact that the man who helped kill off so many historic teams in the EFL, a man whose made the likes of Bury, Bolton etc. wonder if they will ever see their team again, due to threats of liquidation is helping them makes me sick, obviously none of this is Wrexham’s doing, it just shows how unfair the football world is, especially at the top, so that’s why I said what I said about Wrexham, money input isn’t bad, but what about the other teams who are struggling, the unnecessary fame from a TV show that has got people obviously rooting for them against a league of financiallly struggling football teams (like they once were) and the fact the man behind these operations (who I could be wrong does more work than Rob and Ryan) is responsible for some of their own issues, come on, you get my point.

    I can appreciate being angry at questionable (untrue) media coverage. That is wrong and more than frustrating. But I don't understand being angry with the team or the owners. The owners are doing what they should be doing which is supporting the team (financially and otherwise). I live in the SF Bay Area and my team are the Oakland A's (as in Moneyball). The role of money in professional sports is definitely an issue. That is a BIG conversation and no one can expect a single team to answer it. But are the owners actually supposed to NOT invest in their team? We have all seen owners not invest in a beloved team and we hate that, too. So what is the answer? As for hating Wrexham because they now have international/American fans, I don't know what to say about that. Wrexham has wonderful teams, fans, and owners (and I love the TV show, too!).

    It's not a huge surprise. Nobody resents Rob and Ryan for doing well by doing good, but there's no longer a level playing field when Wrexham can field an All Star Team and the other clubs can't. Wrexham has become the Chelsea of League 2, buying lots of shiny new toys in the transfer window without figuring out how the pieces are going to fit together. That approach worked (eventually) in the National League, with a little help from the Easter Miracle, but Notts County did as much with less last season, and it's interesting to see which manager just got poached away and which manager needed a "vote of confidence" from his owners. In any case, if you want to be loved and admired for your pluck, the Luton model works better than the Wrexham model.

      Luton have big budgets when they were promoted even in national league

      @@MrWebosplashLuton's whole team was assembled for about 10 million in transfer fees. Not exactly a big budget in the Premier League!

      > but there's no longer a level playing field when Wrexham can field an All Star Team and the other clubs can't.
      I see this all over the place from people who dislike Wrexham, and the thing that confuses me... isn't that essentially the standard thing in not just the PL but the EFL in general? Not even the EFL, but most of Europe. Rich clubs, or clubs with more resources, simply buy a side the league they are in can't compete with. Bayern, PSG, Real Madrid... those teams spend a LOT more than the bottom teams of their league. Everyone looked down on the Saudi league for their astounding buys to prop up their league, but (much of) the PL tries to stay above the other European leagues by doing basically the same thing.
      I suppose we'll be hearing similar things if the American sports market ever truly turns its attention towards the sport, because MLS as the third most popular league in the US could easily outspend the PL. The American market is insanely massive, and Americans spend a huge portion of their income on average on sports. The NBA spends more on player salaries than the PL does (with half as many players per team) and it has average viewership that is less than a tenth of the NFL. If the US ever seriously gets interested in the sport, I expect the moaning is going to be utterly unbearable.

    I don’t believe for a second that Wrexham are a hated club tbh. Quite the opposite in fact. Most fans of other clubs I speak to seem genuinely pleased to see the club coming back from the abyss and doing well. There will always be fans that hate other clubs, particularly a Welsh club 😂 but no way are we up there with the most hated clubs. We’re more popular than ever across the globe. We’re not underdogs in the lower leagues anymore just like we weren’t before Hamilton came in. I’ve never felt so liked as a Wrexham fan 😂

    No real football fans hate Wrexham, but many are like me and feel sorry for real Wrexham fans who supported their team through thick and thin and have had to see their club hijacked by all the new hangers-on who didn't give a monkey's about their local team or ever bother to go before recent developments. More than half of the people who now regularly attend have no doubt spent most of their lives taking the p**s out of the real fans who have supported them through the hard times. Good luck with it all.

      I'm one of those who's supported Wxm through the dark times, I also pledged £2k to our survival fund - much to the wife's unease at the time, but because she knew just how much Wrexham AFC has always meant to me, and being the fantastic woman she is, also consented to it (I had to ask...)
      The rival fans gloating with 'Where were you when you...weren't very good' ...also know that ANY club from ANY division, will always have bigger crowds - and therefore more demand for tickets, when you start to improve, but more importantly... *when they can see a future* !
      R&R (and their due-dilligence team) when looking for 'a club', also had to look at their _potential_ for growth (most clubs - as pointed out - will increase their crowds when _initially_ doing well...but what is the potential for _growth_ ?)
      The 'latent' Wrexham fans as I like to call them...are now re-appearing again - 20-30k crowds were not unusual when I started following us.
      Wrexham are the only professional team in N Wales - a huge catchment area. *This* is what grabbed their attention IMO!
      I can't _always_ get a ticket now (season tickets were frozen just before I retired)...but I would MUCH rather that be the case...than go back to the times when you could hang your legs over the seat in front of you to get a bit more 'comfy' #UpTheTown

    Good luck to your club and the city. Most of the hate is through jealousy 😎👍

    Money has ALWAYS been a staple of professional sports. The hate is unnecessary. If you have poor owners and can't afford better players then yeah, you gonna suck. Period. Get over it.

    Hey, come on Brits, Ryan is Canadian so technically only North American. We Americans catch enough crap from the world. No, I don’t have ANy problems with Canadians. They are my neighbors bordering my state to the north. My grandfather was born and grew up in Canada. I would never insult a Canadian by saying they are American. We are related by history, to a point, language ( except they spell a few words wrong) blood relations in millions of cases and certainly the best friendship between any two counties on the ROCk. Don’t insult Ryan by calling him American

    No need to explain anything. Haters hate, so what😮😢😂❤. The truth is, that nobody would follow/watch 5th or 4th tier football without Wrexham!! Those whiners do not understand the value for the whole league and Football ⚽🏈?😂 as a sport🎉❤. I've followed the British football since the 70s but never ever non-leaque or anything below Championship. The exact same goes for MLS and Inter Miami. Same 🐂 bull! But without Messi and co. Nobody's watching. So, chin up and go Dragons❤❤❤🎉. Best regards from Finland.
