Today, I will talk about the Kingdom of Tamna 탐라 who ruled Jeju Island 제주도, the largest island in Korea. Its mythological foundation was in 2345 BC. Tamna became part of the Joseon dynasty in 1404. For almost 3000 years, Tamna was either a sovereign, tributary or vassal state throughout its history. Tamna is also known as Tangna 탕나, Seonma 섬나 and Tammora 탐모라. These names are from the Jeju language and mean island country.
There is no historical record on the foundation and early history of Tamna but a foundation legend was passed down orally throughout the ages. This is known as the Samseong mythology 삼성신화.
The spoken language on Jeju is closely related to Korean but is not mutually intelligible to mainland Koreans. Sadly there are less than 10,000 speakers of the Jeju language and they are all over 70 years old.
Most people who go to Jeju will soon learn about the Dol hareubang 돌 하르방, the rock statues found all over Jeju Island, are considered to be offering to the gods for protection and fertility. Visitors will also quickly realize how important Hallasan is to Jeju; it's the highest mountain in South Korea at 1947m. It’s centrally located and on a cloudless day you can see it from almost anywhere on the island. It has been considered sacred in Jeju and also the mainland.
Join me in briefly exploring the history of the Jeju Kingdom of Tamna.
Some figures and topics explored in this video: sammu do, samda do 삼다도 삼무도, Samseonghyeol 삼성혈, Dangun, Go Eul-na (고을나, 高), Yang Eul-na (양을나, 良), and Bu Eul-na (부을나, 夫), Records of the Three Kingdoms, Baekje, Silla, Joseon, Mongol empire, Yuan empire, Japan, Kamakura, Yayoi, Sambyeolcho 삼별초, Tamnaji (탐라지), jorihee 조리희 照里之戱, gyul 귤, tangerines, lava tube caves,

Chinese speaker here, Samseonghyeol hanja is 三姓穴, so 삼성 meaning here is 3 clans or 3 surnames instead of 3 stars 三星, I think is just a homophone.

Kathy Xie You forgot to mention that he pronunced "Sanguozhi" wrong. It's not "San-guo-zzee".It's more like "San-guo-juh" if I would try to match it to the English sounds.

We asked some shell fish gatherers to take a picture with us. The women looked busy with much work but one of them put on a smile for us . I could see life was tough for the ordinary person . I suppose life was tough for people through the centuries.

Korean is Single nation without a relative unlike Europe, Middle-east, Southeast Asia, for example Arab states, Israel and Ethophia, 3 semitic language, 24 Arabic speaking country(22 in Arab league), Europe, all are family languages except few like Finland, Estonia and Hungary under Uralic family, Turkey with others Turkic country and also Mongolic under Altaic, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Timor speaking Malay-Indonesia languages and cousin Philippines. Champa in South Vietnam other Malay but in 1832 annexed by Vietnam. Korea not only small lost land to China and Russia, no relative language country, Korean are isolated languages not Austronesian, not Altaic, far from Sino-Tibetan. China with Bhutan are distances cousin. Korean do not have own cultures, architecture but adopted from China.

So is china Jurchen or Han?
It's funny that you speak of word "own".
Because Jurchen ban chinese han outfit. And chinese wear jurchen clothes, and had jurchen haircut for several hundred years. So where is "han chinese"? So its a real big contradiction because the resent han chinese which is most populated chinese is Actually from Jurchen.
      Even you,
your elders your grandparents your greatgrantparents your great great grandparents wore jurchen clothes and jurchen haircut, jurchen culture.
