Its easier to identify foreigners by "phonetic errors" than by grammatical errors
I was laughing so hard because that is DEFINITELY how I speak Japanese! 🤣 My reason is because (when) I don’t know how to properly conjugate it, I’ll just use the dictionary form. I just thought it would be less weird sounding than to improperly conjugate. Although, not being anywhere near fluent, I’ve no idea if that is a fair assumption or not. 😅 Anyways, thanks for this video! I will study the grammar more thoroughly henceforth! 頑張ります！
I often make grammatical mistakes during chatting with people in a game called VRC, but all of them are kind enough to correct me where i am wrong and i am very gratefull for that. Hitoki you really explained the whole scenario really well.

Also appreciate the tips on common mistakes - I'm pretty new to learning Japanese so I know I make a lot of them. I definitely didn't know "kawaii da yo" was wrong. "Kawaii desu yo" is acceptable, right? Sometimes I've gotten the feeling that "da" can be the less formal substitute for "desu" but this is clearly a case in which they are not interchangeable.
Da is the copula form of "is", but is actually built into i-adjectives so isn't needed. Aka means red, but akai means is red because the da is built in, this is whats happening with kawaii. Desu is acceptable because its just making the sentence more polite instead of declarative. Cure Dolly does a great job of breaking this concept down

Both in Spanish and English whenever I am talking with friends or family we can make huge grammatical errors that of course are very identifiable but our humor is so weird we immediately know the other is just messing around because we tend to mess up grammar for memery.
Well, in my experience, unless it's really broken, even if you're using the wrong grammar, Japanese people can fill in the blank. So far, i actually have more problems with garaigo/外来語, unless your pronunciation is the exact katakana, a lot of Japanese can't understand words like "rental" even if the garaigo is just rentaru
this is so true, luckly because i'm italian my pronunciation of english words tend to be more similar to the japanese one than the correct one, so it's easier for me to make people understand what i'm saying in most cases, but i definitively had trouble with that lol
I used to think that too, but it doesn't mean they don't think you're Japanese is weird as hell. Japanese people don't point it out even if you use crazy grammar because they don't want to be rude lol. I only know this because i thought my Japanese was fine, until i met my fiancee who's a rare straight speaking Japanese person lol, she's told me numerous times Japanese I've used with my Japanese friends without them saying a word is incredibly weird, and i've just been like whaat? I thought it was perfect Japanese! lol
I would be interested to know whether grammar changes and drifts throughout Japan, in the UK this is definitely the case, there are places where dialects and accents can be problematic. It would be interesting to what would happen with fluent Japanese spoken with a foreign accent
I feel like this is true esp. with Kansai-ben. It's almost like a completely different language!

My mother language is German and we often make mistakes in our own language. Sometimes it's pretty obvious that you made a mistake but on other times you just don't realize it xD

I've been learning Japanese by myself for only 1 year so I never know the right grammar is 可愛いよ and I've been using 可愛いだよ in conversation with Japanese friends 😂 Recently I also make a mistake of using 言わたくない instead of saying 言いたくない and they teased me a lot for this until I feel a bit embarrassed www I'm still a beginner so I'm going to study more and more from now on✨

To me, it doesnt metter for a non native speaker either way they speak text book japanese or like others say the real japanese. Forget about that. It´s technicly a miracle that a foreigner can speak your lenguage even if it is just broken japanese or same applies for any other language.

Many people want to learn a foreign language (in this case Japanese), but few people like to study grammar. So many think that it is useless to learn the rules for speaking a foreign language: after all, it is enough to listen to native speakers a lot and I can learn to speak like them! Yes like them, even with their mistakes (which still make the language very natural).
Many students after years of grammar cannot speak the language of their dreams and become discouraged (understandable). Grammar is not enough but you have to start from that! If you are lucky enough to be born a native speaker (for someone somewhere in the world the fact that you are a native speaker will be lucky) then ok, no problem! Grammar doesn't help you much because you learned the language in a preschool stage by imitation and memorization. Children are a blank sheet to write on, but adults are a little different: adults have in mind the functioning of our language (which appears clear and logical to us), and our memory is not like that of a child. So you have to study grammar, vocabulary and at the same time train your ear to listen and your hand to write. No pain no gain! 😎

I have watched a lot of your videos over the past few days and I am surprised that your friends still answer your calls. Lol
Native English speakers make all kinds of grammatical errors all the time and nobody really seems to care.
A few somewhat common grammatical errors made by native speakers:
1. Confusing subject and object pronouns when using multiple in a sentence.
e.g. "Him and I went to the store".
This sentence uses the object pronoun ("him") instead of the subject pronoun ("he"). The rules for when to use subject or object pronouns doesn't change when additional pronouns are added.
The vast majority of native speakers would correctly say "I went to the store" or "He went to the store".
"Him and I went to the store" is wrong because "Him went to the store" is wrong.
It seems to me that people tend to use "___ and I" when they are trying to sound more formal even if "me and ____" is the correct form.
2. Using past tense instead of past participle.
e.g. "I've already mowed the lawn"
In this example the verb is "to mow", the present participle is "mowing", the past tense "mowed", and the past participle is "mown".
The present version of this sentence uses the present participle (mowing): "I am currently mowing the lawn" therefore, the past version of the sentence should use the past participle (mown): "I've already mown the lawn".
3. Using Woman as an adjective
e.g. "She was the first woman astronaut"
Technically the word "woman" shouldn't be used as an adjective to describe sex or gender, the word is only a noun. The correct word would be "female" which functions as both an adjective and a noun in different contexts. In this example the grammatically correct sentence would be "She was the first female astronaut"
The word "female" when used as a noun most often refers to animals or plants instead of people, this means it can sound a bit sterile or rude when applied to a person. I think this is the reason this usage is technically incorrect but quite common.

La gramática en el español también es compleja: si una palabra lleve acento o no, cambia totalmente el objeto. Por ejemplo, papá (dad) y papa (potato).

En España usan patata en lugar que papa, pero un ejemplo típico es la primera persona en el presente del indicativo VS la tercera persona en el pretérito indefinido.

Portuguese have this too, there is a grammatically correct way to say, but everyone on the daily basis says the wrong way and this is ok, some ppl uses the verbs on the wrong way. I love how use the word "mim" (me) wrong, You can't say "mim dê" (give me) you have to say "me dê", but everyone basically says MIM, ppl also switch Vir and Vier, Vier means to come and Vir is to see, and ppl mess with these two bcs whey write and speak kinda similar.

Some people who tilted their heads like you've said at the early part, suppose it is English language they're probally confused and maybe they want to comprehend, Sometimes because they are curious by nature. For example I recall a german who spoke English said when they do stare at other people because they are curious he thinks it is because they have experienced being spied by strangers in the past(East germany in the past citizens are usually being spied on and this past experience may have been still around 😆), but their curiousity means no harm and wishing to comprehend in nature! Probally the robot that was about to zap you just because it looks illegal wouldn't happen. Take it easy Hitogi!

形容詞を「イ形容詞」、形容動詞を「ナ形容詞」って言うんですね。英語の勉強を初めてした時英語では日本語の形容詞も形容動詞も区別せず形容詞って書いてあって混乱したのを思い出した。

This tells us as long as your accent sounds native, and your word choice is native, even if you have some minor grammar mistakes, people may not notice it, and even if they notice your mistakes, and cuz your accent sounds so native, they might not think you are a non native speaker

Cuando hablo con personas que también hablan español, a veces por diversión conjugo mal algún verbo (como "dijido" en lugar de "dicho" ) y saben que estoy jugando, tal vez porque es mi idioma y saben que no puedo equivocarme en algo tan sencillo, seguro detectan el error pero no por eso me lo hacen notar, pero me da mucha pena equivocarme así en otros idiomas :p
pero hay gente que habla así, está como cuando escuche a alguien decir "esta fuerte LA calor"

Grammar is important. However; when a native speaker learns their language, they do not learn grammar by the time they are "fluent". Their mom and dad aren't saying "ok, did you know that i comes before e, except after c!". One could argue that it just isn't natural. However; it is natural that one would learn grammar fluidly through massive amounts of input. Children are a great example of massive amounts of comprehensible input. One line of thinking is that adults can't learn like a child, which is correct in a way but not correct in another. It's incorrect to compare your language learning path to a child because most adults have life obligations (ie. house payment, car payment, school, a job etc) so as an adult we don't have the luxury of time to absorb massive amounts of input like a child does. On the other hand, adults have learned how to learn. Children can't understand abstract concepts and little nuances in language like an adult can. So where we lack time, we can make up for it in experience and age. In reality, adults have the capacity to learn much faster than a child the only thing holding adults back is discipline. There are no shortcuts to language acquisition. Videos on CZcams about "how to learn faster" etc are gimmicks. The key is discipline. The person who studies 10 minutes a day EVERYDAY will always excel over the person who spends 2 hours a day 3 times a week but not EVERY week. 塵も積もれば、山となる。

It’s correct! Kawaii yo would be casual speech (you can use with friends, people younger than you, etc.), and it becomes more formal if you add the desu. If talking with someone I don’t know well or in a position higher than me I would say kawaii desu yo.
That thing you said at the start about natives and grammar mistakes isn't really true for native English speakers. In a country like Japan where no other country speaks the langauge I can imagine it being true though.
