      I really don't understand why people think these dune remakes are actually good movies :-s Apart from the CGI, they are just lame and dumb compared to the original low-budget theatre-like mini-series(they obviously try to copy lots of the settings and atmospheres directly from either the old movie or the old mini-series, rather than go back to the book and really re-envision it=> turning it into a good CGI + bad script knockoff of the material already available instead of something that would add something of value for people that liked the dune lore)...
      The last 5 seconds of this clip make the entire fight before it useless, stupid and only for dramatic 'look how cool we are' effect :-( The dudes that took out the harvester from a huge distannce with their lazer-gun-thingies could've just taken out the ornithoper too from the first shot it ever fired... And there was 0 need for the 'tough guys emerging from the sand close quarters combat' if they didn't have to place demolition charges manualy because their friends were just going to lazer-weapon-swipe the harvester anyway from hundreds of yards away... Any1 who thinks all of this brainless 'look how cool and tough we are' and 'look, pretty CGI, now shut up and don't think about it' movie is actually a quality adaptation of the Dune lore, should just go back to disney channel and netflix-originals stupid movies with some HBO softcore p*rn sprinkled on top 😕
      Clearly, people keep getting dumber every year, just like the movies they watch, the jokes they make and anything else they do to entertain themselves with 😕

    Denis Villeneuve truly knows how to bring weight to Sci-Fi action that most likely otherwise would have seemed borderline fantastical. Yes, in concept, it is fantasy. But the way he utilizes sandscreens for breathtaking moments such as 2:23, as well as cinematography and sound design just MADE for the spectacle of the Fremen's rebellion like 4:54, all of this made the action of Dune: Part 2 feel as genuine a journey for them and us as the movie as a whole.

    Two questions:
    1. Why does everyone use swords and knives? Both sides have long range lasers and mini-guns. Are both peoples not technologically advanced enough to make shorter range versions of these weapons for use in close combat?
    2. Since the Fremens had the means to destroy the Harkkonen spice harvester with those long-range lasers, why didn't they do that instead of first hiding ground troops under the sands and then mounting a ground assault? The Fremens' priority is to destroy the spice harvester, not to kill as many Harkkonen ground troops as possible (sacrificing their own troops in the process), and THEN destroying the spice harvester? Just seems weird to me.

      from what i've heard, soldiers are often equipped with similar shields to the one the ornithopter uses, which are capable of protecting against fast projectiles (such as bullets) but which don't defend against slower moving weapons (like throwing knives, swords). The reason for why these soldiers are fighting with melee weapons might just be a matter of training (why train soldiers in weapons that they can't use), cost (why spend money on advanced weapons for a convoy that probably wont be attacked anyway?), etc.
      the reason for why they didn't use the ranged laser is because they then would've been exposed to the ornithopter in the middle of the desert with 0 cover. Furthermore, the laser can't attack the ornithopter due to its shield, as the shield, when combined with a laser, causes a massive detonation, which is not ideal

    Saw the sequence with the thopter circling the harvester, making it hard for the fremen infantry near/under the machine to operate. They kill the guards up close, then the thopter and then from hundreds of meters away, laser down the harvester. Why didn't they start with lasering down the harvester in seconds to begin with, without losing all those fremen to the mini gun thingy mounted on the thopter?

    I don't understand what's going on here. Why didn't fremen immideately use laser guns on harvester like on 5:08? What was the point of meelee attack on harvester and guards? Why doesn't huge harvester and marching troops attract sandworms in a world where you even have to walk without rhythm?

      "Why didn't fremen immideately use laser guns on harvester like on 5:08?"
      Because that would have been suicidal, as the thopter could then have picked them off at will.
      "Why doesn't huge harvester and marching troops attract sandworms in a world where you even have to walk without rhythm?"
      They will, but it takes time for a worm to travel to a harvester location, hence the need for spotters in thopters to detect wormsign and call in the carry-all to remove the harvester at the last moment.

      @@whiteknightcat "Because that would have been suicidal, as the thopter could then have picked them off at will." - This doesn't make any sense. Thopter has actually killed a lot of them when they were meeleing the harvester. If they straight shot the lasgun and run casualties could've been at all avoided or maxed at lasgun crew. Thopter could've been picked out from safer distance. None of that explains why they had to ambush and engage harvester up close.

    This plan needed work. Why have the anti air team around the harvester? Correct me if I am wrong but I think having the first team that is attacking the ground guards and drawing out the Ornithopter would be better to stick to cover during the fight and have the teams on the hill take on the Ornithopter while it was focused on first team then take out the harvester. Is there a lore reason for what happened here?

  • @thundergod111
    @thundergod111 Před 12 dny +6

    That's a lot of dead Fremen for one harvester. Also, since neither the Harkonnen or the Fremen use shields, due to not wanting to attract sandworms, why isn't everyone packing a projectile weapon?

    • @danielc2701
      @danielc2701 Před 10 dny +1

      The Fremen crysknives are not weak, they punch through almost anything. I suspect that normal projectile weapons might not be as effective against their modern armour as the knives are. After all, those knives are made from sandworm teeth and those things eat almost anything, including harvesters. Won't be surprised if those knives could cut through the harvester itself since they are literally the same thing sandworms use to chew on harvesters.
      Don't forget that on Dune, the Fremen had to use spring loaded Maula pistols that fired poison darts. That does not sound like it's going to be very effective at all against even plastic armour. 01:49 a Harkonnen using a projectile rifle but didn't hit much. I suspect his suit was hindering him.

      @@SkvelaPolevka "Armor piercing" bullets is a misnomer, all our bullets these days are cupro-nickel, which by the standards of the 18th century are all naturally "armour piercing" but they still get stopped by modern day body armour. The only "line" after there is a difference in AP vs Ball munitions is the 0.5 cal SLAP. Before that, there isn't really much difference between "armour piercing" and normal ammunition. The reason there is only a dividing line there is because those are meant for use against vehicles.
      Anyway, at 01:49, you see a Harkonnen using a rifle against the Fremen but he's moving surprisingly slow. I suspect his stillsuit is getting in the way of his weapons handling.
      Edit: Now that I replayed that in slow mo, I found that there WERE guns in play, the Harkonnen was not moving slow because of his suit, someone off screen shot him in the faceplate, you can see the impact and smoke from the round before he got stabbed later. He could not see.

    That SAM launcher sure looks impractical, it has a big body and the ammo is small, thin and flat. Atleast 10 can be loaded in the launcher. But it still needs reloading after each shot? The ammo is also not guided? No lock-on function? Frank Herbert failed to predict futuristic technology.
