    In a cubs fan and let me just say, if you land Nico, you’ll be much better for it. He’s fundamentally perfect and the gold glove defense is real. He will never have a bad thing to say about anybody anywhere and is a huge plus in the clubhouse. I’d be very sad to see him go but Nico is very underrated.

      Unfortunately..... I think Julio is who you described. Great defender. Extremely streaky hitter who put up good #'s last couple of years. Right now he is the most painful at bat 2watch on this team! Way 2many Swing & miss @anything (inside or outside) off the plate. Absolutely no plate discipline! We're screwed cuz unless a miracle of all miracles takes place.... Julio's approach will not change!! If he were a SS like Trout, Grif, Gwynn, Bonds.... we might have a chance!! Don't hold ur breath

      When he gets to age 29 and is still producing like this. The thing about Julio is that he's had a bunch of Superstar moments and/or stretches, where you can see that the talent is more than what the numbers say. And he's so young that he's got at least another year or two to figure out how to put those all together and make it more than a moment, more than a streak, over the course of a full season. He's 23 years old so he won't hit his prime for another year, in my opinion. He's still maturing and the league has found a different way to attack him each season so far. First year was hard off the plate, out, before he figured that out. Then soft off. Then soft in, (which to me is his favorite to rake against). Now they've worked hard off the plate, in. Once he starts to cover that, there's nowhere else to go.

    I wonder if there's a conversation around Hoerner, if there's also potentially mention of someone like Taillon who is also under contract for a couple more years and would be a great #4 pitcher with #3 upside if the concern around Woo grows at all.

    Seeing a lot of people scoffing at this idea but I think Hoerner would make a ton of sense. This lineup is NOT one superstar away and they need to make improvements all over. Picking a spot and getting better is a great place to start. It also gives a little more certainty while we wait for the kids to climb the minor leagues. I do wonder what it would cost to acquire him though.

      OK, I'll bite. Why do so many players come to Seattle and suddenly forget how to hit a baseball? Are all those players just "washed", or could it be something else? 🤔Could it be the coaching/philosophy of saying "we don't care about strikeouts as long as you're doing damage at the plate"?

    • @cathymonty6920
      @cathymonty6920 Před 8 dny

      There have been too many players who have forgotten to hit when they came to Seattle. One or two yes, but Winker, LaStella, Wong, Pollock, Haniger and on and on. The Garver signing is especially intriguing. We didn't re-sign Tom Murphy because although he could hit he was always injured. Instead we dign Garver, a catcher who has a reputation of always being hurt to replace him. Didn't work out so good yesterday.

    No smart person should be sleeping on the Astros. Houston's main problem was their pitching in March/April when they were 10-19 with an ERA north of 5.
    Their ERA was 3.62 in May. Their ERA is 3.54 in June. That's coupled with one of MLB's best lineups with MLB's highest team batting average and lowest team strikeouts in MLB.
    The Mariners have MLB's lowest batting average and lead MLB in strikeouts. The Mariners are in deep shit if they don't somehow miracle their way into learning how to hit the ball as a team, and there isn't one player they can acquire who can save them from that.
    All these guys who aren't hitting right now are guys who they traded for because they hit before in other places. What makes anyone with a functioning brain stem think that Hoerner or anyone else they trade for now is going to hit well in Seattle? How many times are we going to be fooled and snakebitten by guys like Polanco, Wong, Frazier, etc.? How many defective 2nd basemen can they put on one team?
    That and those idiots STILL don't treat DH like a position. They use it to give guys days off. That obviously (finally) bit them in the ass when they used Cal as the DH and a guy who's perpetually injured as their catcher, leading to Luis Freakin' Castillo stepping to the plate to not even attempt to sacrifice Raley to 3rd. Even healthy, the obvious statement to make is Raleigh and Garver should NEVER be in the lineup at the same time. A good argument can actually made to platoon them based on their numbers, but again, they still need a REAL DH. That's just one of many things.
    There's really nothing else you guys can talk about outside that.

    Seems like you two are taking the Astros lightly. Have you noticed the lineup has been ripping it. Hunter Brown and Ronel Blanco have been nails in June. JV will be back soon. Tucker will be back soon. This run they have been on has been without JV, and Tucker. If the Mariners do not watch out the Astros will pass the Mariners before the All Star break. They were 12 under 500 last month. They are on a run without their key players. It just seems you guys are sleeping on them. Will check in within a few weeks when Mariner fans are in panic mode.
