    This is a Matawan style Texaco as evidenced by the stone facade and bays on the side. It would have been built sometime around 1964-66. Stayed a Texaco it's entire life. Sad to see it in such a state of decay.

    May 2005? It's been abandoned a lot longer than I thought - I had expected it to have been a victim of the 2008 recession, but I was wrong. It shut down the month I graduated from high school...

    What a shame, this place could
    Have changed into something else,
    A small restaurant, a donut shop,
    The idea for a new business could
    Have happened, but it can't be used now
    What a waste of a building.

    • @WallieB26
      @WallieB26  Před 6 lety

      peppermint princess Yeah, at this point, the building would need to be torn down and replaced. The amount of TLC this place needs would be astronomical and very very expensive.

    This Texaco was owned by Walt Collins and his wife, Phyillis. It was known as Walt's Texaco. The one down the road which you said was replaced by the Giant Eagle Get-Go, was owned by Mel Maple and was known as Maple's Texaco. I believe George Kehm of Kehm oil owned both properties and was responsible for the maintenance and upkeep. Don't know who owns this abandoned one now here in January of 2020, but I agree it is prime property and should be replaced with something. The commercial tax rate on this property is probably pretty high which may be deterring potential suitors..

    Great video..I found an old service station , similar..find..found the property owner..he let me remove the inground lift.. it was installed in 1955. American made ..not China steel..I put it in my shop.. after I cleaned it up...works today after sitting for 25 yrs..great find..I look for places like this and collect old service station memorabilia..like the clock u found..in there

    Songs like Blurry by Puddle of Mudd and Lips of An Angel by Hinder come to mind every time I drive past this place lmao, it closed when I was about 8 but there’s always been something super nostalgic about it even back then, maybe that’s why they still keep it around after all these years haha

    Too bad this has been abandoned for so long; it probably can't be salvaged, as Wallie commented elsewhere. It seems like it would be a good place for a repair shop (not necessarily another gas station). The building has three bays, two with hydraulic lifts. I actually was surprised that Wallie didn't make any comments about the service bays and possible future use.

    We kind of had an abandoned Texaco here in Round Rock, Texas, the place closed and it was stated that new management was there and they were renovating things, it was like that for years abandoned until it finally got renovated and opened up again.

    It’s amazing how a family business can just end up being abandoned like this, it’s like, what happened to them?

    • @WallieB26
      @WallieB26  Před 6 lety

      Marth I'm not sure but when I hear of family run or franchise run businesses closing, it's either because someone passed away and their relatives or business partner(s) didnt want to continue running it. Other times I hear of the owners relocating or just deciding to close up. It could be anything though.

    This has been closed since September 18 2005 The Owner Bill retired and the sons didn't want to taker out over I used to buy gas here on the way to PTI. Bill also owned the other TEXACO station down the road were the Giant Eagle replaced it. The owner was super nice and the owners family was getting up in age and didn't want to continue and the pump tank regulations shut down the mom and pop shops couldn't afford to replace the tanks and the owner was the last FULL SERVICE station in MOON. This was opened in June 2003 and he also had a notary service and inspection station. I had my 1993 Oldsmobile 98 tilted here when I moved from Illinois. West Hills Nissan was rumored to have brought it as well has the HONDA motorsports up the hill was rumored to have wanted at one time. Here is some history I=on this and when you used a credit card here he had to use the credit card imprinter machine and call and get an approval on your card. Moon Township police were called out several time s fro vandes from 2005 to 2009 and the cops just got to where they didn't care. It was also rumored that Wal-Mart wanted to buy West Hills Nissan, BP and this Texaco . Basically the owners of the BP and Texaco hated Wal-Mart so much they said no. I lived in Colony West Apartments from June 18 2003 to May 31 2014.
