  • I don't typically do these kinds of videos, but when I was doing my research on this roof top tent I never found some answers to certain questions. So here is an in depth review of the unboxing, assembly, and setup of the Smittybilt Overlander roof top tent and some of the differences between its big brother, the XL.

I appreciate the effort the two of you put into this video. Thank you for making it available.

    This vid had been posted for a few years now. You mentioned that you and your wife don’t have kids, but I just noticed in the vid that there were kid tricycles and kid car things in the background. Maybe you guys run a children daycare business. Anyways THANK YOU for posting your complete vid showing from the very start on setting it up.

  • @IFLTW
    @IFLTW Před 5 měsíci

    Great instructions and i think at the time this was posted the instructions were clear about the ladder hinge assembly but the new updated manual shows the m6 plastic washers which you call spacers in the video go on each side of the bolt. Not together. That prevent the metal washers. From rubbing up against the hinge and causing wear. So there’s no metal on metal friction. Just a mention. I think these are the best instructions I’ve seen so far. Thanks. Smittybilt should pay you for this haha.

    Thank you for this video, we will be buying the Overlander, I figured that my wife and daughter can comfortably sleep in the roof tent and I can sleep inside our LR3, my concern also was if the tent can be mounted on top of my roof rack, which now holds Maxtraxx, 4 gallon water tank, Hi lift jack and the shovel/axe combo.

    @tede.9848 Před 4 lety +4

    @ 4:45 The bunge cords are not for the rainfly they are suppose to connect inside the tent to help pulling the fabricate in when closing.

    • @SupersamProduction
      @SupersamProduction  Před 4 lety

      Good tip! I'll have to try that out. The XL came with some cords to bungee down the overhanging piece over the ladder but since this doesn't have that, that makes more sense.

    • @259Den3
      @259Den3 Před 4 lety +3

      @@SupersamProduction It makes packing the tent much easier, when you fold it closed, the bungee cords restrict the fabric from billowing out around the edges.

      It's funny you should ask. The quick answer, no we have not experienced any squeaking with the tent. But, right around the same time you asked this question we noticed a squeaking noise. My wife was convinced it was the tent but I didn't think so. Once winter rolled around, we took the tent off for storage and the squeaking was still there... Must be something else!

      @SupersamProduction  Před 3 lety

      I wonder if they've updated the instructions. I've been meaning to make a part 2 to this video and correct a few things and that is one of them. Based upon my research on how those types of washers work, I think it makes the most sense to put a metal washer on the outside, and the two plastic washers together on the inside. I have since made that change but regardless, I don't think you're going to run into many issues no matter how you do it.

    • @SupersamProduction
      @SupersamProduction  Před rokem

      We bought a queen topper just because it was the closest in size. But the dimensions of the mattress are interesting, longer than normal mattresses but narrower. So we had to trim some off of the edges to get it to fit, but there is still about 1 foot at the bottom of the mattress where the topper doesn't reach. I think the only remedy would be to get a California King, and then trim a lot out. That didn't seem worth the money to me though. Good luck, sorry I responded so late to this, I'm sure you've figured it out by now.

      My guess would be that the black knobs have a locking mechanism in them, that way you can raise them up and lock them so that you can slide it without it going in. If you twist it clockwise it should drop slightly and then begin to lock into the holes afterwards. Sorry for the late reply, I'm sure you've figured this out by now.
