Being the host, Seth should have drawn him out more. I really doubt that Ernie hangs with Dan and Bill so he probably feels like the odd man out. Of course, he pretty much sat there closed mouth and failed to add anything unless spoken to. He does look like he is in better shape than the other two so he certainly has that going for him. The reals brains of the bunch are Aykroyd and Harold Ramis and Ramis is resting in piece. They should have resurrected him in the movie.

    • @LauraMorland
      @LauraMorland Před 2 lety +3

@@atlebakke "the merch" is *merchandise* -- i.e., t-shirts or baseball caps or coffee mugs or whatever was sold in stores at the time (I have no idea) that served to make additional money for the film's creators. So as a response to "Did your children like the film?" it's funny to think that the children of the stars would ever have to pay for any film-related merchandise... it just wouldn't happen!
True fans of the film back in 1984 would have purchased the merchandise. So juxtaposing the behavior of their children against the actions of a true fan is funny. And of course the creators (Dan, Bill, and the others) would see a profit from any merchandise sold, and so seeming to "complain" that their children didn't spend money that would end up in their own pockets is also amusing.
It's true that explaining a joke saps the humor from it, but I hope that my comments have been helpful nonetheless.

I'm feeling really sorry for Ernie. This is the second lot of interviews I've seen with these three, and he hardly seems able to get a word in. I don't know if this is something with which he is comfortable, and is happy to let his friends do their thing. I hope so, as he was as much a part of the film success than Dan, Bill and Harold.

Uh Dan is the only reason why this movie was made from the beginning.... Harold helped co write it later on when those two joined and Bill and Dan has a strong connection because he was the first to be there for Dan when he first came to USA... Ernie came in WAY AFTER the fact they hired him to be a part of the movie... not the same.

I was born in '75. These guys are my 80s childhood. I was 8 years old, going on 9 later that year in 1984 when I saw this film that summer. Some of the scenes did scare me at that age. I went trick or treating with Ghostbusters bags that Halloween. The atmosphere for this movie was electric, the song, the effects, the characters, I felt it even at that age. There was something about this movie, it had a special ambience to it, even compared to other great 80s fantasy blockbuster movies. Although chasing ghosts wasn't a new idea, the way this film presented it as exterminators running a business certainly was totally brand new. Plus the genius of the movie was how dry and sarcastic the movie was, I really think the film was a happy accident, because although they came close with the 1989 sequel, it wasn't the same. All the new movies look more like Scooby-Do instead of what the first film was.

Same. I was born in '77 & GB was every much of my childhood as George Lucas & Steven Spielberg's movies, Knight Rider, Sat morning cartoons, & Dukes of Hazzard.
Looking back at the original movie in hindsight, it's one of the very fc dacement, editing, production design, visual effects, & marketing. At that time, one would have to peruse through films from the "Golden Age of Hollywood" to find other examples of this level of collaborative cohesion. Contemporary examples would probably be something like "The Godfather", "Star Wars", "Raiders of the Lost Ark" - which puts "Ghostbusters" in good company.
And you're right, this movie earned every laugh, scare, & moments of excitement/sheer joy. That's not an easy juggling act to keep in the air. With a production that size, it's miraculous; because if any element didn't work, it wouldn't enjoy the success & longevity it has. Remember, it shared '84's box office with "Indy Jones & Temple of Doom", "The Karate Kid", "Beverly Hills Cop", "The Terminator", "Star Trek III", "Nightmare on Elm St", "Sixteen Candles", "Gremlins", "Police Academy", "Footloose", "Dune", & "The Last Starfighter" just to name a few. It could very well have been swallowed up!

I have been the biggest SNL fan since the MID 70's my parents were kind enough on SATurday nights to let me have sleep time on the couch and I could watch SNL at a very young age so I was able to witness the original cast. Danny and Billy mean so much to me and if you ask me Ernie was the man in Ghostbusters. I remember how much Ernie meant to me in that film you were so glad he was on the team!!!!!! Ernie always seems like the kindest and most good of souls!!! Very comforting when you are in battle(Against ghosts) watching as a young lad. Danny, Billy and Ernie thank you so much for all the great entertainment and laughs you are all LEGENDS!!!!!!!!

Watching Seth Meyers, makes you appreciate how good Conan O’Brien was with these type of guests.

Bill Murray was the sponsor on Dan Aykroyd's visa - that is a crazy/mundane detail

Aykroyd is 69 and can dance like that.
Murray is 71 and looks like he's 90.
Hudson is 76 and looks like he's 56.
These guys are legends and the early reactions for the film indicate it's a home run.

Look Murray had bad skin even as a youngster. Of course he's going to look older.

Dan Aykroyd's face at 0:30 tells it all. He's so eager to go. Love it.
