- Welcome to my first video on the "Erik's Garage" channel!
In this series of video's I'm going to restore this classic Archimedes/Volvo Penta 40 outboard engine. I don't have a lot of information about this engine, only that is from the 1970's so it is approximately 40-50 years old. It has an aircooled 2-stroke engine with about 60cc and 4 horsepower.
As you can see the engine is in pretty good shape for its age. The first step is to disconnect the engine from the tailpiece. The next step is to take the engine apart in order to inspect all the components and see what has to be replaced. In the next episode I will clean/paint/replace all the parts individually.
If you like what you see or if you have any questions, please let me know in the comment section. Also, if you liked this video please give a thumbs up, subscribe and share this video to help the channel.

No part 2? There's thousands of these engines knocking about, lots of people would benefit from a vid of just a basic service, thanks for pt1
Interresant Erik. Top
Mooi gedaan
Hi, right! Looking for part 2!
I think your piston is blocking the inlet. Open it up by 6 mm and you will get 100% more ponies. IN the current shape max 2 hp. can be obtained I drow for the Penta factory team in Kitö 1973.
Any news on part 2 my friend? Just picked up one of these old engines and I’m also planning a rebuild/restoration. Thx for the video!
När kommer del 2 egentligen? 😢
man where's the part two?
Work in progress…
sir my dad also have this same machine.. I wanna know how can i change its engine oil? tell me please because we never changed that yet ..
It’s a 2-stroke. Is doesn’t require additional oil except for the 2-stroke oil mixed with the fuel.
@@eriksgarage369 ooh.. but whenever we tried run it will heat up after 5 min, it heats up quickly and then it hardens the kick or the rope which is used to start the engine. do you know why this problem occurs every time.
@@hnhussainali there air cooled there not like normal outboards there's lots of mixed reviews on these engines some are rubbish some are ok trouble is there no indication of whether the engine is over heating or not ! From what iv read they like to be run fast as the quicker they turn the faster the fan goes
Have taken everything apart, now what?
