Apple has said that they don’t know any information about the airtags like their location and any personal info- it’s all private and inaccessible to them. So for the privacy aspect and the fact that there will be many more phones around to find my stuff, I returned my tiles and bought airtags instead :)

Having had a tile, the network of IOS devices is the biggest draw card for the air tag. Admittedly we were given the tile a few years ago but it simply didn’t work. Relying on others having the app and having it running meant that it was effectively useless. I’m thinking about some air tags for luggage simply because of the ability to lever millions of apple devices that are out and about all of the time.
As others have also pointed out, the idea of paying a subscription also kills the advantages of the others. I’m also unlikely to put a tag on my keys. Over the years I’ve managed to reduce the keys that I carry down to the car key fob and house key only, and want less in my pocket, not more. I even leave the garage door opener in the car so that I don’t have to carry it, and have an app on my phone to open the garage with Bluetooth if I don’t have the key handy. I’m looking forward to using the phone as a key for my car in future to eliminate that too.

I kindof agree. I think that Bluetooth 5 being released definitely helped tile get that extra range but with no new “big” Bluetooth releases after BT 5, I don’t know how much better the tech can get.
Maybe apple can design a case that almost resembles an antenna which could help its range though, I’m not an expert in how the signal tech in these works tho. My biggest gripe is just how quiet the speaker is. Should be way louder

I put the AirTag in a park and went for a walk and it didn’t get pinged once from the amount of people who walked in the area, it didn’t even get pinged until I was like 30ft away. The range isn’t actually that good with AirTags so it really needs to be in a busy area to get a ping.

They only needed for it to have a range of 300-500ft at maximum.
Instead they gave u 50ft bluetootg range BUT also being able to track it down in another state because of range furthering, this is such a cheap stalker tool its not even funny.
There should be a limit of 500ft even with furthering, otherwise its just dangerous.

I'd love to get an AirTag to use on my bike, but the "anti-stalking" feature Apple implemented makes it completely useless for items that could be stolen. If the thief has an iPhone, and chances are they will, they'll be notified that the item they stole has an AirTag in it, allowing them to throw it away so you'll never see your item again.
Tile doesn't have this feature, but their tracking is worse. I live in a rural area so I would be hesitant to put my faith in it. I'm basically forced to shell out for an expensive GPS tracker.

You could use one of your old cheap old smartphone and lower the volume to silent. I hid a thin smartphone underneath the bottom padding in the bolted Topeak trunk bag on my commuter hybrid bike. It is a gps and isn’t just a Bluetooth tracker. The con with the gps is that you need to charge it more often vs these Bluetooth trackers. A phone also isn’t expensive bike gps with fees…. Even if you put a tile or AirTag on a bike, they can still be found by a thief…. As for airtag, people have removed the speaker and the following feature notice is supposed to be after 3 days so you got 3 days to find your bike. When the thief leaves the bike, the tracker wouldn’t be following the thief’s iPhone anymore.
