I'm in the boat who thinks Chainsaw Man is blazing fast at all times. The amount of content per chapter has been wild so far in part 2. SO MUCH stuff has happened a with the characters and we're just 40 chapters in. It's even faster than part 1 honestly. I think people just think fights = fast which is actually the complete opposite for most shonen animes/mangas

Been hearing lots of flak towards the second part, and I gotta say, even tho I’m not the absolute biggest Chainsaw Man fan out there, I gotta disagree with some of the criticism. I do agree that it’s a slow burn, but I feel Fuji is working towards something.
I’ve enjoyed him building up Asa, and I look forward to where he takes it with Denji and him balancing his desire to be Chainsaw Man and live a normal life. I could see some Spider-Man kinda stuff being played with there. And honestly, I look forward to it.

I would rather have something that is slow but takes its time rather than something that tries to cram every single idea in span of very short chapters just for the sake of having "hype" moments that are just brainrots. And that's what a lot of people are nowadays, brainrots whose attention span has been ruined by whatever is shown on their screens. The world we reside is one that encourages people to take things further and faster before moving on to the new thing. Gone are the days when people had been critical and had a wider perspective over everything else.

    • @arielazaria4680
      @arielazaria4680 Před 11 měsíci

It's not just slow, it's in my opinion incredibly messy so far. We start with focus on asa and her friend who also gets killed in the most bizzare scene in the manga that has yet to be explained (ridiculous), then the focus goes back to denji and we have a bunch of unnecessary, little scenes that take up entire chapters, then we get an awesome interaction between denji, asa and nayuta which immediately gets thrown out the window with nayuta magic'ing everything away erasing asa's memory which was incredibly disappointing and lame. Then we get the fall devil segmant which was pretty cool but not much else and from time to time we get yoshida and the makima 2.0 character which are both incredibly bland in my opinion, and now we are at this point with that ridiculous chainsaw man church cult crap and it's just like come on man what was the point of all these twists and turns and jumping from one thing to the next, no new character is even remotely interesting as the ones introduced in the first part and everything feels like it goes nowhere. You trying to claim that the very appropriate critisism of the current state of the series just boils down to 'people dumb' is pretty low. I honestly kinda wish it ended with part 1, it read like an incredibly written, rich, badass, extremely creative blockbuster action film. Now I don't even know what to make of it.

This is only tangentially related to the video, but something thats been on my mind since rereading Chainsaw Man is that it's nowhere near as wacky and zany as people make it out to be. Like, people talk about CSM like its Dandadan, but its not. I actually think that they are kind of like inverses of eachother. Dandadan is a wacky fun story that can be serious sometimes whereas CSM is a serious story that happens to have a good sense of humor.

It has a serious narrative with serious themes, but a completely ridiculous plot lol. The main character is a horny doofus, a lot of the side characters are just memes, there's absurdist humor in nearly every scene, the pacing goes so fast it's like a joke in itself, and it has plenty of wacky "wtf is happening" type moments like Dandadan has. Idk, CSM is literally the only manga that has ever given my brain enough feelgood chemicals to make me keep reading every single week without the need for a break. Part 2 hasn't changed that at all. There is plenty going on.
Denji is feeling a bit aimless at the moment, but that feels by design. The guy is still coping with losing Aki and Power, and now he is being forbidden from turning into chainsaw man, which is something he loves doing. And not only that, Asa is stealing all of his fame, and there is nothing he can do about it. He is just letting his base instincts lead him right now. I am sure that will eventually lead to something. Asa is currently just enjoying her newfound fame, and we'll have to see where her story goes when she returns to the spotlight. As for the bigger threat looming in the distance, that would he Nostradamus's prophecy. We are eventually going to see more primal fear devils. There is also Fami plotting her shit, and the innevitable arrival of the death devil (who may or may not be a primal fear themselves). I think its great. Lots of moving parts. Definitely slower pacing from part 1, but i dont mind that. I really dont need a fight every couple chapters to keep me interested.

I'm currently having that with Oshi no Ko, chapters come out every two weeks and the author is fleshing out side characters instead of advancing the story

All manga feel slow on a week-to-week basis - that's why this pacing complaint happens for basically every long-running manga series out there. Part 2 actually has the same pacing as Part 1 if you go back and read it in one sitting... We're just not sure what it's all building up to yet, so it's harder to gauge how fast the overarching plot is progressing.
From what I've read of his work, many of Fujimoto's stories can feel a little aimless at the start. But by the end, once the themes and characters have been fully realized, you can go back through them and realize that almost no time was wasted. He's remarkably efficient with his storytelling.

Tatsuki Fujimoto's works are somehow similar with Quentin Tarantino, their first breaktrhrough were their extremely niche one (Fire Punch and Reservoir Dogs), then the second masterpiece (Chainsaw Man Part 1 and Pulp Fiction) were both artistically and commercially, but when you compare it to their third (Chainsaw Man Part 2 and Kill Bill), they finally realized how to make a real suspense even though the flow of the story is kind of a slow-burn. What I'm trying to say is that Chainsaw Man Part 2 looks different from Part 1 because Fujimoto doesn't want to romanticize his previous works, he doesn't give a single fuck about critics from their fans or haters (same goes to Tarantino) as he knows he's already put his name on everyone's radar, so once his writing goes hard all of a sudden again (especially in Act 2 and 3), that critics would eventually turn into a compliments by how unorthodox his direction is and make their haters (mostly generic battle Shonen's readers) question their taste.
Chainsaw Man is never a battle Shonen in the first place, it's a character-driven story, not a plot-driven one (like every Shonen reused over and over). Imagine how dull you are to think Vinland Saga weren't as good as its Prologue where it was all about non-stop action and battle, it's truly a shame that not everyone could appreciate Seinen's story (only a Reading Comprehension Devil's victim who doesn't tell that CSM is supposed to be a Seinen rather than Shonen even though it's published in Shonen Manga)

I’m not sure if anybody feels this way, but I like part 2 a lot more when it was focused on Asa than Denji. We already got a lot of Denji from part 1 and now in part 2 I feel like a lot of the screen time he’s gotten could have been used on Asa instead. Not saying Denji isn’t interesting anymore, but we already know his mindset and character, I want more of Asa/yoru interactions.

I totally agree with your observation. So many of us got into Chainsaw Man when it was in its later stages, or even when it had already ended, so the experience of binge-reading such a high octane series compared to reading it once a week feels more like short bursts rather than one long fuse.
Not to mention, the first 30-40 chapters of Chainsaw Man are pretty comparable to Part 2 so far in terms of pace and development, so again, I think it's just a matter of perspective.

I’m gonna be honest, in a few months people are gonna forget about the “slow” discourse. With the recent chapter it’s obvious that the story is picking up speed again and we just needed time to establish some things before we dive headfirst into the chainsaw man church and possibly even get some returning characters from part 1 if you really want a slow paced manga, try reading berserk during the boat decade, now that was slow.

Hey bro,I love the chainsaw man content. I am going to say that I do agree with you in that the first part of the manga was more hard hitting for a lack of a better word. When I started on the chainsaw man last year, I read the entirety of part one in like a month (I was completing my last year as a junior in high school)
I definitely noticed that part 2 of chainsaw man more focused on the emotional growth of certain new characters as well as how denji has grown as a free person, without being binded by some shitty contract to be taken advantage of because of his powers. I'll say with certainty that this change of pace will take some getting used when compared to the balls to the wall action in the first part but it will eventually grow on manga readers (Albeit Slowly)

I think my biggest problem with part 2 is that there is no real goal or direction for the story of the characters. Characters just show up and do things but there's no real context to their actions. Apart from denji and asa we don't really have any understanding on any of the other supporting characters. I'm hoping that soon there will a chapter or two that starts giving context for everything that's happened and set's up a direction for the story.

I think it’s been pretty good honestly, I wasn’t to big on Asa at first but she’s actually a lot of fun. Glad the falling/heights devil showed up although I feel it was a little underpowered as this is a fear that is instilled within us that isn’t taught like darkness. There was just so much more they could have done with it and wasn’t a big fan of its design either with the whole cooking thing.
As for being slow, I don’t think it’s the pace of the story, it’s more the pace of the manga release itself that feels slow so each chapter you get you are hoping it jumps to the insanity pay offs we had and instead we watch denji go on a date, but then you end up enjoying it and seeing him pull an Oldboy which makes it worth it.
It is taking awhile but I don’t mind waiting, not a fan of the horrible time frames writers have to deal with but I definitely do not enjoy reading mangas that aren’t already finished which is what I luckily got with the first part.

there are so many looming questions from part one that havent been answered though like
1)who killed the gun devil? It was stated that after its first appearance its body was found and split among all the countries of the world with no perpetrator ever named
2)what primal fear is pochita? Or atleast what puts pochita on that level.
Its pretty obvious from his fight with the weapon devils and his description from makima of “being killed but pulling his ripcord and revving again.” Simliar to the falling devil in no matter what denji did to her
she just seemed to never die pochita is just as immortal since he is literally stated to have been killed but never reincarnate(the exact description of a primal fear) pochita is more similar to the darkness devil in combat than any other devil we have seen (moving faster than people can perceive, overwhelming aggression, and has a reputation of fear from two sources that actually gives him power unlike makima who was feared by devils and humans but only her fear from humans gave her power)
3)what did the darkness devil want with pochita and why would it also want makima dead?
Darkness devil didnt speak at all, so all we know is that it made a contract with the doll devil to bring pochitas heart to hell and they also used that to lure makima back to hell and makima does that. Even quoting “bidding me to come save them darkness?” So we get no real info on the darkness devils motivations or “dreams” since we know all of the stronger devils like pochita and makima have dreams that kinda contradict their existence(pochita wanting hugs even though hes literally chainsaws, makima wanting a genuine equal connection, even though her power is to artificially make connections and dominate others.)
And thats just a few i think about often

CSM part 2 is great but I think it has 1 big issue, it lacks a strong main cast at the moment, Asa and Denji are for the most part separated and surrounded by side characters that only appear when necessary. I think this is why the aquarium arc is my favorite of part 2 so far despite it being a soft reboot of a part 1 arc, Asa and Denji, the two main characters, finally meet and interact and try to figure out the situation they are stuck in together.

Alot of the time, the issue is just how people consume the media. People just skim through and dont actually understand what they have just read. Important plot points and character development just get ignored if it isn't delivered with a BANG!
Chainsaw Man part 1 set up alot of very intriguing plot points and essential pieces of the characters in the beginning at a "slower" pace. Chainsaw Man part 2 is doing exactly the same thing, but now it looks like the climax will be even bigger than before! More fuel means more fire.
It definitely can feel slow at some points if you are just used to regular shonens. But Chainsaw Man is different. It is great at building characters without 24/7 action. Character developement isn’t sudden and its story is great if you ACTUALLY read it.
Even when it feels slow to the audience, it is still great at mixing high octane action when necessary. At the end of the day, I'm just happy to see more Chainsaw Man content.

I like part 2, but I think it does have problems and they are not "it's build up, we just have to wait" type problems. My main problem with part 2 are the side characters, they are either uninteresting like the demon hunter club president, or they are too in the background like fami and Yoshida (yes I know they are being build up to do big things in the future and they'll probably have payoff, but let me elaborate).
Take for instance part 1, at this point of the story, about 40 chapters in, we had had the katana Man arc which gave Aki lots of character development, some of his most human and emotional moments in the show, we had side characters that showed up for very little like Himeno, but that had emotional arcs, were well written and contributed to further develop the main cast. I'm missing moments like that in part 2, or not the lack there of, but the power of said moments. For example you could argue that Yuko served the same purpose as himeno, but it's just not as personal a relationship as aki and himeno, nor is the resolution of said arc as beautiful and satisfactory as "easy revenge", Yuko has some nice moments with asa, but the relationship is not built in such a way that we truly connect with her character, so when she is abruptly killed, it's really not as impactful. Also, in regards to Yoshida and fami, they are both serving a similar role to makima, being there as untrustworthy figures that loom around our main characters, but we just dont get them acting and carrying shit on their own to really feel their presence, like yeah the whole thing about the falling devil was orchestrated by fami, but we don't see them interacting with the main cast in such significant ways as makima did in part one, not only in progressing the plot forward but emotionally too, connecting or influencing characters, having interesting interactions further than "don't be chainsaw man, live a normal life".
I think the strengths of part two are asa your and denji, but when they are pulled apart from one another it kind of feels slower, the beginning of the story was fire, and the aquarium and post aquarium were we really were starting to get asa and denji to interact further generating tension and conflict was really good, but right now I think that the manga feels so slow because of what I've said previously, there just isn't as much emotional baggage in the interaction and relationships of characters as there was in part one.
Anyways, its fujimoto, I've read all his works and they are all fantastic so I believe he is cooking up something great, but I've seen too many people either wrongfully criticize part 2 for reasons that I find mistaken or defend it from the actual flaws it dles have, so yeah that's that.

ok I just caught up to cam (chat 138) and here's my two cents on the matter.
I think the direction the story is taking is the best in the long run. the fact of the matter is, it is unsustainable for a manga to keep trying to escalate the stakes. if you do, the power level will just keep increasing exponentially and eventually the reader will truly be able to comprehend how high the stakes are. CSM part 1 had insane stakes. I was shocked at how fast things were escalating, it was exciting but also lord have MERCY. if CSM had kept up with trying to build off hype, it most certainly would have. just burnt out its readers and feel repetitive. the only actually sustainable story direction, in that case is t o do the opposite: reel the story back in and build up the characters: which is what the mangaka is doing.
the only complaint I have is that the manga feels quite all over the place, but I am trusting that the mangaka has a plan and we'll eventually be seeing those pay-offs.
