  • Education and environmental awareness are a vital component of conservation. Many children who live in the local towns of the Waterberg have never had the opportunity to see a rhino, even though it is living on their doorstep.
‘Gardens of Hope’ tells the story of one special garden in the Waterberg Rhino Food Gardens Scheme and how this is helping to bring sustenance to the community and create rhino champions for the future.
Working in collaboration with Waterberg Biosphere, the Food Gardens Scheme shows how a small amount of funding can make a real difference. With money for seeds and compost, some manual labour, schools can grow vegetables to provide extra nutrition to the children and sell back into the community to earn further funds.
Waterberg Rhino also sponsors community-led projects, with which it has established connections, to enable children to experience the bush and its wildlife through workshops, residential courses and mentoring programmes.
