These are full time 4WD trucks. Engaging the diff lock locks the diff it doesn’t engage/disengage 4WD.

Could be different on these, but on Full time 4wd cars it only means that all the parts of the front drive and transfer are moving, when you press the button it locks the front with back so it's actually 4wd.
For example if you have center diff lock off and lift rear wheels off the ground but not front, it will not drive. If you lock the center then it would.

"Select 4WD by engaging the centre differential lock". I would dispute this, it is very poor advice. The vehicle is full time 4WD, is it not? Engaging the centre differential lock under all circumstances will likely cause damage and significantly increase the turning circle, possibly catching out unaware drivers.

Worst gear box I have ever used. Prior to our brigades new cat 1 we had a six speed manual ( GREAT TRUCK). On "Proper", steep declines the automatic gear box is useless (I know there are many brigades that have very steep country)! Unless your engine RPM is high enough the gearbox is pretty much in neutral, until enough speed and RPM's can be achieved. Going down a very steep hill relying only on the "service" brake is madness!

Very bad advice telling people to engage the centre lock for 4WD. These vehicles are full time 4WD and the centre diff lock should only be used to crawl the vehicle out of it is bogged, for example. Using it in any other scenario can cause you to break some very expensive parts.

It makes more sense to have these resources spread out around a city so that fast response times can be achieved in every part of the city
