Decided to do a simple video on how to self clean an oven. It was the my first time I had done it in 10 years. I don't understand why I never did it before. Just make sure to open up all the windows.

900 degrees, not enough to cause a fire. I use mine a few times during the year - the best time to start a self-clean cycle is right after you’ve finished baking something - the oven will still have some heat leftover from the baking cycle so it won’t need as much energy to heat up to cleaning temperature, so you can use a shorter clean cycle. With this method I’ve found that 2 hours is sufficient.

It went great! I'm so glad I was able to watch the clips and learn how. Here's a funny story. So oil apparently spilled in my oven and caught on fire so I had to call the fire department and they are the ones who told me my oven had a self clean.
Then I googled videos on how to use it and found this one.

My mom used our old houses oven self clean and it had no smoke or odor smell had the windows open and ceiling fan on during the process.

Intresting that it turns on and off - so the thermostat is still active. I thaught the self clean mode worked by disable the theromstat. So it's still not rinning at it's full power (continous on) during self cleaning.
Those areas that didn't clean very well is where the temperature didn't get high enough. The glass is most likely the surface in an oven wich have the biggest heat losses as there is no insulation there (the walls usually have insulation on the outside).
Although - even the glass probably got hot enough to make the grease mostly turn into carbon - that still makes it a lot easier to clean afterward

I’ve heard tutorials say that if you have a bird you should put it outside because the fumes have been known to kill birds.
Quietkey75. We had one (don't right now though) and used it for years and never had a problem with it. It does get super hot in there though. Our door locked as well. The way yours turned out is pretty normal or at least looks like ours did. We still did have to clean the glass and other odds and ends. But it's sure better than spending hours breathing Easy Off oven cleaner. I really miss it since that job usually falls to me. They have some that clean with water but they don't work well at all. Our friends have on of those. It doesn't clean anything, just warms up a pool of water you have to clean out later... and then still clean the oven.
Four hours? That’s a long time!
You should wipe off you oven when there is a spill. Why leave it to get so filthy? Baking soda and vinegar left for a few minutes when it gets dirty can prevent an oven from getting so dirty.
You gotta use a wet sponge to clean the glass and any residue... Duh!!!
bummer the glass doesn't clean. I am doing my for 2hrs right now and yea the house is stuffy from fumes/smoke. windows are open and even door to garage! Thanks for sharing!

Your suppose to clean around the door first......no cleaners just use dawn dish soap and sos .....YOU HAVE TO CLEAN AROUND THE DOOR FIRST OR THAT WILL BE SET FOR LIFE.
I am cleaning mine now...mine only leaned for 3hrs. Thanks for the video. I didn't put any type of cleaner on mine.

The default self clean time is four hours.
I’ve never known anyone who’s done this and every oven since 1970 has this feature.
The cleaning timer was at four hours.
Halfway through the process, the timer displayed, “1 hour 55 minutes”
I opend the door too still my dog can't breathright so I put them out side while I only put 30 min even I think baking soda and water and vinegar method better my though

Does the cycle have to finish so my door can open cause I turned it off cause my house was so Smokey but the door won't open
Don’t know if you’ve figured it out but it’s the Heat sensor. Temps get to around 1000F so the door locks until the temp drops to a safe level

When I was young I used to live with a Brazilian woman and I’ve never gotten along with Brazilians. Anyway just to screw with her I put the oven on self clean and she predictably freaked the hell out about it. Fun times...
