Today’s Corrie can’t hold a candle to these classic episodes
Agree. The gritty arguments in the pub were a trade mark of the old corrie.
Jack walker was such a lovely kind character.
1932.
Very wise too
Sadly he died a few weeks after these episodes
Such an innocence to this old episodes. They can't go back though.
I loved ena sharples she mellowed over the year's
Ray's a piece of work. He makes Len look like a saint by comparison.
Ty so much for uploading these episodes great fan from nz here 💓
The direction and lighting were very innovative in this episode. Usually around this time they filmed it at a completely flat angle with unnatural lightning and minimal editing. But this looks almost like a single camera setup with lots of close-ups and movement. Those scenes in the Rovers have held up pretty well.
Ena losing her daughter made her more compassionate towards others, in the very early days she was a nasty piece of work who bullied her way around the street.
This was when the writers began altering some of the characters traits. By that I mean, Albert and Ena switched roles on the show.
Ena was sharp tongued and judgmental in the first decade of "Corrie" but by 1970, the writers began to soften her out. She was still strong willed but more thoughtful in her dealings with others.
By contrast, Albert who was more reasonable and levelheaded during the same period was now becoming grumpier and more difficult to deal with.
Valerie giving another Electrifying performance................
Poor old Lucille, the actress had a terrible booze problem & was fired because of it.
Must have been a doozie of a lush to be fired from Corrie...most of the cast were alkies!
@@saxongreen78 Yes, I think Jennifer Moss' alcoholism was severe. She was an original 'Corrie' cast member playing 'wild child' Lucille Hewitt from the age of 15 in 1960 to her sacking in 1974 by producer Susi Hush for 'bad behaviour'. She said she drank to dull the pain of her father's death.
Jennifer attended 'Alcoholics Anonymous. all her life and successfully overcame her drinking in the 'eighties, reviving her acting career from the late 'eighties on with some notable TV roles.
Jennifer Moss died at home in Scotland in 2006, aged 61.
If Annie had been given a proper send off they could have brought her back. They should have given her a few scenes for Stan’s funeral and Hilda’s departure at least. Sandra Gough too.
That woman who is talking to Ray Langton (Lucille) about 19 minutes in looks like Angie (the one who lived with Curly)
Image of Angie Freeman!
Bingo she's a nasty piece homely as mud fence that gap 😅
Ken and Vals little girl looks very like the girl who played the last Susan Barlow years later
william f it is her. Wendy Jane Walker. Just looked at the name on the end credits. She was the 80s Susan as well
Oh wow so it is - thanks
@@williamf4544 They should have kept the other actress that played her as a teenager who had a Scottish accent, it makes no sense that she should have an English accent
@@mettainacan7813
Totally agreed. The actor they got for the older version of the brother didnt have a Scottish accent either. I always thought that was very weird! Spending your whole growing up years in Scotland then you hit your 20's and the accent just disappears? Goofy! Although it is crazy that they hired the adult actress who played Susan as a preschooler!
@@SUPER_WOLFMOON Oh yes I remember now, true, with every actor and actress they would come back and forth with accents, doesn't make sense at all...I did like the Susan that married Baldwin, I think she came across as spoilt and young (which she was)
According to Wikipedia Nigel Humphreys would only be 19 or 20 when this was filmed.
1:22 that child grew up to marry Mike Baldwih - & she was a lousy adult actress too! The actor who played Mike hated her & that's why the bosses wrote her out - they had zero chemistry!
-ooh get youuu!’
Does Mrs Sharples reveal herself as a Gnostic dualist with her battle between good and evil!?
Thank you heaps. Would you have the episode when David and Darrens death is announced and also when Irma returns? Would love to see this.
Is the next episode avaliable? When David and Darren Barlow are killed
I’d love to see this episode. Any chance the next few are available?
Yeah on the Tanya Pooley channel
@@leoncarroll7728 thanks heaps for this
@@Jackles22 no problem 👍
What was said at 19.40 , totally bumbling from Dickie
1:27 the future wife of Mike Baldwin, Wendy Jane Walker....
She looks just like the girl who played Susan Baldwin
Poor Irene Sutcliffe (Maggie). She may as well not have been in the episode at all! One two second appearance at the end ;( seeing Ray and Audrey kissing). What a waste of an actress!
Haha
It's a powerful scene, and a good use of her character even if she has no dialogue. The nature of an ensemble cast is that sometimes actors have only walk-on appearances.
Ray was pretty rotten from the start!
Is jelly the same as jello in the states?
Yes. Horrible in both countries.
No jelly you put on toast and jelly was made with Water. No the same!
Yes, we call Jell-O Jelly in England. What you guys call Jelly, we call Jam.
@@johnthorp3649 here in my state of Pennsylvania. We call jelly-jelly and eat it on bread or toast. Jello we call jello and it’s kept in the refrigerator and eat it cool. Sometimes as a snack after dinner as I did as a kid. Or just got in the refrigerator and grab some.
@@danrobinson572 yeah. We have Jam on toast and Jelly was always on offer at kids' parties, usually with vanilla ice cream
Joseph and today TV
omg that bitch stole his chips - i wouldnt stand for that
So if Ray thinks the coach crash was ‘punishment’ for him being with Audrey, what about everyone else? The Ogdens, Ena, Minnie, all the rest-what were THEY being ‘punished’ for?
I just cannot stand Audrey!!
