    and last but not least: Imagine heading off to your local swimming pool, full of motivation ... but as soon as you're there it turns out to be a nightmare: So much people, children, pensioners.. swimming all across the lanes! No chance to keep up your plans..

    • @dragvs
      @dragvs Pƙed 4 lety +5

      Philey why? Choose a fast lane and start your warmup, then some speed intervals. You can put on your fins and do some power/speed training also. And it’s Ok to have occasional contact. Usually it gets better on a lane.

    • @mik3ydll
      @mik3ydll Pƙed 4 lety +29

      especially in Germany and Austria afaik it's common to not have any lanes set up, meaning that people are all over the place just talking etc. and wasting space. The best thing is that, then they would also complain if someone splashes them when exercising. I really hate swim training without a reserved lane (swim clubs) because of that.

    When the lifeguard watches the fast swimming lane fill up with people walking.
    Sharing a lane with 'The Splasher'.
    When the pool is full but the pro insists on soloing his lane by doing endless butterfly.
    Being hoofed by the guy doing breastroke in the next lane.
    Accidentally hoofing someone yourself,missing the moment to say sorry and then the awkward feeling everytime you rest at the same end.

    As a national swimmer, i can confirm that ALL of these examples are 100% accurate, but also as a swimmer you will experience the following:
    -Warm-up sprinters(hate them)
    -Cold Pools
    -Getting out of bed at 5am is MORE challenging then the actual 2 hrs swim itself😂
    -When a cap rips during a gala, that is the most annoying thing EVER
    -Swimmers who try to race you in trainning and get excited over beating you even if you didnt try
    -Swimmers who pull your feet to get in front off you
    -Swimmers who take a "toilet break" during a hard set
    -Swimmers who say that "this set wasn't hard at all"
    -People who "fix" their goggles in the middle of a set
    -EXTREME HUNGER! Like after swimming, swimmers can eat more than probably any animal that i know, that's how drainning this sport is
    This is just a FEW named examples of swimming from my own personal experience, but the WORST things and probably the funniest things to happen are that when you hit your hand on the lane rope it KILLS and feels like you hit barbed wire instead and hitting arms with your mate when swimming butterfly, also there are people who swim a 1500m WITHOUT goggles and people who swim down the middle of the lane and swim into you

    When you swim in the context of triathlon practice, it's also worse. The worst thing for me is eating, as after training in swimming I may go biking or running or both and it's not that you can eat large amounts of food after swimming if you are going to bike and/or run . I manage to use gels as I can assimilate them quite easily, but it's a bit of a pain nonetheless.
