    Found maybe in Northern California as the top was made by Berglund Tractor , a Cat dealer in Napa and Willits, CA, and patented as a Selby Safety Top. The Cat is either a 2U or a 13A. Looks like it pulled a few logs in it's day!

    I live in the woods around NH. When I was little, my family and I would sometimes take hikes around the area, and we saw a bulldozer like this, an abandoned logging truck from many years ago (30's-40's by the looks of it), and what looked like a racing car that was horribly rusted out, but still easily recognizable. I miss those days, and wish I could see them now. It's amazing what you can find out there.

    What a shame to leave a poor old cat to rot in the woods, just think of all those hours of hard work she's done. Surely someone could resurrect her to her former glory... :-)

  • @-mike--m-9629

    The dozer probably has serious drive line issues. They probably run it until it was flat azzed worn out.
    Unlike what some of you think...
    It's a hell of a hard job to repair those old dozers.
    It takes large specialized tools to break the drives down and a good knowledge of the cat brand.
    It's not the same as slapping a time belt on your Honda🙄
    If it's a engine issue ?
    Caterpillar parts cost BIG money if you can even find them for the old girl.
    Cat mechanics get the big bucks 👍

    Cool! I put a few hundred hours on one just like that. Really efficient machine, 5 gallons per hour pushing shit up hills I could barely walk up. The thing was so loud, it roared and you could hear it for miles. Those winches are amazing, it has the strength to break that 3/4" cable with ease.

  • @HJMC3345
    @HJMC3345 Před 12 lety

    That machine was left there because at the time it would cost more to detail the undercarriage than the tractor was worth. 1935 is the probable date of construction.
    For those exsperts out there, all you needed to know on this beast was 2nd and high reverse. I ran one during the summer of 1967 or so and blew the clutch out of it. RD-8 was something special before the WW2, but it became rapidly obsolete in the 50s.
    Very reliable engine, but you need to check the fuel and fill up the oil daily.

  • @Zmsteinm
    @Zmsteinm Před 11 lety +1

    That's cool and I can't believe everyone says scrap metal. Unlike today things don't rust out and break in a few years they lasted for forever if you took care of it. There is no electronics or anything to go bad you could definetly get this to run and drive with some time and a lot of greese and oil

    I seen these fire up with a new set of batts.. the grousers are wore almost down to slicks, I bet the bull gears are pretty much round. and usually it's one of those cost X amount to haul it out for the end of season, or leave it parked it's not going anywhere. a season goes by and co. lost contract or went under. yes the machine still holds enough value to not be left to rot. scrap value, parts for other who still own and maintain this make.

    • @anttiroppola4414
      @anttiroppola4414 Před 10 lety

      Yeah. We sold ours and the guy who bought it ended up abandoning it. Not worth a huge amount and certainly not worth transporting any distance if you have to pay someone to move it. Too much stuff worn out or missing, especially for an old machine where finding parts will be a struggle. A pity as they are awesome machines and sound great.

    Talk about this when I was a kid I found an old steam locomotive sitting up to
    its hubs in dirt in the woods.
    It had turned over a rail & rolled down a gully back in the teens on a logging
    railroad that went out of business.
    I played on the thing back in the early 1950s and don't remember what
    happened to it. I hiked back down in there with my son in the late 1970s
    and it was long gone - no trace.
    Somebody must have wanted the scrap iron pretty bad to drag that
    monster out of there!

Many do still run after some TLC.

    This poor old Cat has been beaten to death over the years. The undercarriage is shot. That's why it was abandoned. It costs a fortune to replace the undercarriage so if it had some issues with the motor, transmission, or final drives then it's not worth pouring a bunch of money into. It is a shame to see it sitting there, abandoned.
