Interessant.

1/ The Dutch are very polite. I hear more 'Hi can I help you?' than in Belgium. Also more friendly.
2/ they do lots of sports mainly cycling, tennis, football, and hockey of course.
3/ they speak very good English very early
4/ very organized. When I visit big cities it's all very neat. The great public transport system is an example.
5/ all very tall. You recognize them easily when they go abroad.
6/ lots of Indonesians in Holland. Even in small cities. I'm from Indonesian descent and it almost feels like going 'home' lol.

Having lived in Belgium for almost all my life, I can confirm #1. There's this mentality here that everyone should keep to theirselves; when you're walking on the street, a lot of people have 'long faces'. It's sad, however with the new generation, I believe there is hope! Nog een gelukkig nieuwjaar!

We got to spend one day on a bus tour provided by cruise to rural countryside and a cheese manufacturer and a village with windmill and wooden shoe manufacture demonstration, preserving traditional buildings and culture. Loved the country side. Several weeks later, traveling by train and bus, we spent two nights in Amsterdam. The morning of the whole day in the Van Gogh museum, and the afternoon till they ran us out in the Rijksmuseum. We loved our short time in the Netherlands. We were most impressed with a school that was on the same street, a couple of blocks west of the Van Gogh museum, where our hotel was. It was some school celebration involving the families, and it was a sight to behold, a marvel of fellowship and getting together that lasted into the evening. We were also impressed with the vast numbers of bicycles for transportation, including the many families we saw, some dads carrying two or three small children on their bike. We really hope in the future we could return and spend more time in the Netherlands. We loved our short three days.

I'm Canadian, but my wife is a Dutch woman who came to Canada when she was 12. Most of these things are very familiar to me.
3 Kisses: My mother in law is constantly warning the Dutch family members "Don't kiss Mark." She knows that stodgy old Canadians like me find it very uncomfortable. She must have spread the word to all of the family when we visited the Netherlands a few years ago, because it was never an issue.
Cycling: You must admit that your weather is more bicycle friendly than here in Canada. Cycling in 2 cm of snow is a challenge. Cycling in 30 cm of snow can not be done. I was very impressed with the cycling infrastructure through the whole country. There are bike paths and bike lanes everywhere, including downtown Amsterdam. I found that the cyclists were far more dangerous than the motorists when I was walking around Amsterdam.
Deep Fried Everything: This is proof that genetics have more influence than diet when determining body type. I'm amazed that the average Dutch person looks so fit when they eat so much fried food and sausage. I suppose that the cycling helps. Though I understand why there is so much fried stuff when the other options are Boerenkool, Andijviestamppot, or Snert. That stuff is foul.
Rokjesdag: Didn't know about this one.
Chocolate Sprinkles: My kids love these. It's funny that you call the fruity ones rainbow sprinkles. That's what we call them too. I always thought that Stroop was similar to Molasses.
Birthdays: The strangest thing about Dutch birthdays it that you'll say "Happy Birthday" to all of the family members. My mother in law will call on a child's birthday and happily say "Happy Birthday" to me. Though recently she has started saying "Happy Birthday for your daughter." I wouldn't call the talking in the circle "chatting." It is too chaotic for that. If there are 12 people in the circle, there are probably 16 conversations going on at once, possibly in multiple languages. The only time when I can follow things is when they break in to a chorus of Long zal ze leven.
Vlaai: Never heard of it. My father-in-law is from Texel and my mother-in-law is from Zutphen, but has some Friesian roots. I guess northerners are different. They'll have Appelkoek instead. Vlaai looks delicious though. Dutch baking is so good that I'm surprised you don't all weigh 300 pounds.
Beschuit met Muisjes: Rusks with Aniseed sprinkles. We bought these when my oldest daughter was born, but not when the younger two kids came along. For a while one of the colours of muisjes was not allowed to be imported in to Canada because the food colouring wasn't allowed here.
Snack Wall: I saw these in Amsterdam. It was a cool thing, and I bet that they are very careful not to let anything sit too long.
One warm meal per day: My in-laws usually eat their main meal at noon, but they are retired farmers. I think that this depends a lot on lifestyle.
Thanks for the great video. Tot ziens.

Yeah as an English guy living in Holland I love it, it’s a really cool country with great people, I would say a few of the strangest things are the way everyone congratulates each other when they know or are related to someone who is having a birthday...and how everyone will individually introduce themselves to everyone in a room...also the two tone noise thing ‘a-har’ sort of like a sigh, or yawn style noise, but totally unique...
And the way cars give way to the right...makes driving completely unpredictable as you can never see what’s going to pull out on the roads in front of you....
And the Piete thing...actually I would be interested to know how Dutch people who have been living abroad think of it, and if it has changed since they left...
      But yeah interesting video clip👍
Oh and also it’s really hard to sort of end a phone call with a Dutchie...in Brabant everybody tends to make a noises like Hoi-Hoi, doui....hoiiiiiii, urerrrrrrrrr...

I'm German and I've just watched a couple of videos of Americans in Germany sharing their experiences. Somehow, your video started playing next and I thought: Mh.. she's not American, that sounds like a British accent to me. Then keep listening and hear you say you're Dutch and not British. I'm really stunned. I go to the Netherlands as often as I can to attend music festivals, and I've talked to countless Dutch people over the years and I always can tell they're Dutch. Except Armin van Buuren when he's speaking English (he's accent free in my impression) and you who'd I've mistaken for a British girl.
Just wanted to share this. Keep going, bye :-)

I'm amazed at your accent. My Mother was Dutch. She was evacuated from Holland during WW2, landing in England, then to NZ 10 years later. She still spoke with traces of Dutch up until she passed away. For someone so young, you seem to have picked up the South Western English accent quite quickly.

It is understandable that rokjesdag is a relatively unknown tradition because the term was introduced for the first time by Dutch writer Martin Bril in 2010. He observed how young women dressed in their 'rokje' on the first sunny spring day and wrote a lovely column about it.

I loved your video! My boyfriend is Dutch, also from the south (Maastricht) there is something that I didn't see and I was hopping to hear your comment, the Stroopwafels! OMG the best sweet treat ever!!! 😍 I like a lot eating my stroopwafel soggy with my coffee.
Here some facts about your video that I found odd about Dutch culture :
    - the 3 kisses thing is weird but funny 😂 I'm from Chile and we give just one kiss on the cheek, once we had a meeting with my boyfriend and his colleagues (all of them Dutch) and I gave like 45 kisses lol I was a bit dizzy after all that dance kissing cheek thing
    - I also forgot about the black licorish sweets. The texture is a bit hard, like chewing a really old gummy bear but I like the flavor (the sweet ones, I hate the salty ones) specially the katjes drop
    - the first time I saw my boyfriend eating hagelsag with the toast I was laughing so hard at him because for us (I'm Chilean) Chocolat sprinkles are just a topping for desserts or cake... For me is like eat a dessert with bread and butter 😂
    - I also like a lot the appel stroop, the color is kinda odd but the flavor and the texture is like eating honey made of apples 😍 love it in waffles and pancakes.
    - Dutch language is really hard to learn! For me reading it looks a bit like English and hearing it it looks like German 😅 doing my best! My boyfriend's mom doesn't speak any English or Spanish so I have to learn
That's pretty much it. Again, loved your video ✌🏻️

But in the Netherlands I see more people driving in a car alone, than that I see groups of adults cycling.
If the public transportation was free, like studenten OV for middle school aged children most would leave the bike at home. It is because things are local, and FLAT that people ride bikes on the more in the Netherlands than other European countries, fact.
The more south you go in the Netherlands the less bicycles are used. Here the landscape is not flat.
I know almost no person my age or younger that likes riding a bike. Most prefer walking or public transportation. The only time streets are filled with bicyclers is when Middle school starts and ends! Why not aloud to have a scoter or moped, public transport is costly for some families how many voedsel pakketen van de voedselbank?
So it is a stereotype like windmills, wooden shoes, being blond and blue eyed hitting close to 2m in length.
The Dutch being one of the tallest nations in the world is a fact. But it is not automatically fact that Dutch = tall. That is the difference *no-one* seems to respond too. (no-one.... see my grossly point!)

Hi Schiffelers, I'm a Brit living in the Netherlands. I also visit the USA now and then, so I'm in a reasonable position to make comparisons, however unscientific they may be. I'm not a doctor, so my definition of 'grossly obese' is purely personal. My comment was intended to show my affection for my adopted country, not to stereotype anyone. Love y'all.

I recently returned from my visit to the Netherlands. It was freaking awesome and I loved it! I am from South Africa and my home language is Afrikaans, which is just another dialect of Dutch, but it is still a bit different; nevertheless, I did understand a lot of Dutch. It was a really awesome experience and I visited so many places, like the Afsluitdijk in Neeltje Jans, that small Venice like village in Giethoorn and several other places. I really loved it, thanks to all the Dutch people! Now for a challenge...
I am going to write a random paragraph in Afrikaans, let's see if you all can understand it:
"Ons was Maandag na die dam toe en dit was baie lekker daar! Toe ek by die dam was, het ek hierdie video gekyk en ek moet sê: Hierdie was 'n goeie video met 'n baie goeie persoon wat dit aanbied! Nice video. I married a Dutch American woman with many relatives still living in Holland. We visit frequently and I always enjoy it there. I love Vla, Dutch pancakes and poffertjes, and patat (Dutch French fries). Many of the small villages have a “market day” where vendors set up stands to sell vegetables, fruit, flowers, fish, meat, candy, clothes and other things. They are fun to see. The people are very nice, but they are also very direct, and often blunt, so hopefully you are not offended easily. They are not easily impressed by anything you have done, so be modest, or they will zing you.

@@BrianEmpa I never liked butter and i'm from the Netherlands. It is pain. I just took a bite of bread and then put chocolate sprinkles in my mouth. The tiny boxes are perfect for that. Call it Dutch ingenuity.

In my country we also eat bread with chocolate sprinkles like all the time, especially for breakfast and we often bring it to school for lunch. I guess we got that from the Dutch from the colonial era. I’m from Indonesia btw. I love your videos, keep making more like this. Cheers!

She has a British accent. Dutch people , when speaking English, usually don't have that accent, unless you moved to the UK. I was born in Arnhem, the Netherlands, and now living in the USA.. This adorable young lady is putting on the British accent a little too much. Difficult to understand even for me, being Dutch born and now English speaking. I did notice when I was in the Netherlands, that the Dutch language pronunciation and diction are different from when I went to school. Also, when I learned English in the Netherlands, I was taught the British accent. I was made fun of when I moved to Canada, so I lost that accent real fast.
