I Grew up in California and the Gassers used a Striaght Axle to Transfer Weight to the Rear Tires never done like this ...The front end was always much higher..That's my Experience 👍👊🇺🇸
hell yeah so bad ass i love drag racing so thankful i grew up in a drag racing family my dad is a drag racer he has a big tire 55 post with twin turbos one day it will be my car i love ya dad
Wicked cars and action. I raced for years in a 1974 Pinto with a Hi-Po 289 and thought 1/4 mile racing was the best. actually now since i have been watching more 1/8 mile racing. It is pretty exciting.
The high fly'n Chevy II - on his bye run it seemed he's yank'n the lever on an old school 4 speed - probably an M22,, I luv'd it and if Ronnie Sox (RIP old fella!) is watching this video he does too!
Just now getting back in the Gasser Drag Racing scene. I built my own '62 Rambler Gasser. I call it "Kelvinator". Pretty cool old whip. I'd attach a pic, but it's not possible to do so on here.
Hey, that's 1960s starter Jim Lockeby! In his 80s now, still getting the job done. He "doesn't do the internet thing," otherwise I'd send him this link...
There needs to be a class with standard transmissions only. This adds human error and showcases the drivers ability to shift gears, not just push a gas pedal.
Wheres the hot Subarus and the Toyotas? Ha, just kidding, this is a parade of good old fashioned American muscle and its freaking great ! The Dueces Wild Chevy II, boing , boing, boing, fun to watch but costs him plenty. 5:24 is whats its all about.
LOL,, was gonna make the same comment,, but these Gassers are still cool! Lost in the 60's I've seen before and it usually makes pretty solid pass's, but on that day seemed all the guys had RED LIGHT Fever :-)
As cool as they were and still are, there aren't enough people wanting to drop half their paycheck on gas while never passing a gas station. They were a product of their time and can only survive in racing and classic car shows.
Love this old stuff. Excuse my ignorance but why did they think setting a car up this way was a good idea? Didn't they know about the effects of a high COG were in those days?
John Wilson the way I heard it was at the time they thought you could get better weight transfer for more grip cause tire technology back then was horrible
1/8 mile racing sucks. Also, back in the day, we didn't use slush boxes. You weren't a gasser racer unless you could powershift your small block at 8500 RPM.
They had the clocks TURNED OFF for the first half of the video. That's why I didn't film the score boards. lol

Old school gassers we need way more of this kind of racing
Absolutely love the look of these gasser cars. This is about the only time I have seen some tough looking ramblers.
love these old gasser races . the cars are so cool .
I could watch this for hours ... Give me a Henry J all day, but that Anglia at 1:55 is a beast!
Never thought I'd say this, but that rambler was bad ass.
hell yeah so bad ass i love drag racing so thankful i grew up in a drag racing family my dad is a drag racer he has a big tire 55 post with twin turbos one day it will be my car i love ya dad

Great video those were the good old days

@El Bee I mean back in the 50 and 60
the blue willy was perfect
The high fly'n Chevy II - on his bye run it seemed he's yank'n the lever on an old school 4 speed - probably an M22,, I luv'd it and if Ronnie Sox (RIP old fella!) is watching this video he does too!
should'a mentioned Grumpy Bill Jenkens,, he was a wizard with the 4 speed too
John Z not much mopar presence that day.
loved seeing those Ramblers.

Great Video. Love your channel

Nothing cooler than Gassers.

Nice cars, good shots, but....you kept cutting away when the times came up..whhaaa!
Jason Argone , these races are launched by a flag - so the clocks aren't running.
I can almost feel that rumble
Watching the grey Nova front axle bend, slow by slow
Old School is bad ass.
I wish I'd had that Nova at 1:00 in high school ☹️ i'da had the baddest car in my class of '86!
Deuces Wild is fast but a handful to manage driving. Suh-weet!
There needs to be a class with standard transmissions only. This adds human error and showcases the drivers ability to shift gears, not just push a gas pedal.
Paul Straney they have a umtr class that runs in Ohio where I'm from. All stick shift cars. It's awesome.
Paul Straney 90% of rich dumb drivers on motor sports

that nova is dangerous set up like that
LOVE IT.....
Nice set up on the duces ♤ wild chevy ll
Kool as hell
I didn't film the times because the CLOCKS WERE OFF. lol
On one round, the tree goes green, a second passes, then the flagger drops the flag. Explanation?
I don't think I've ever seen that many Red lights in one night. LOL..
ToxicMagnum5 haha i think there was a red light EVERY round except for one not counting by run lol😂
LOL,, was gonna make the same comment,, but these Gassers are still cool! Lost in the 60's I've seen before and it usually makes pretty solid pass's, but on that day seemed all the guys had RED LIGHT Fever :-)
Why do they sit so high? Wouldn't that negatively effect handling and aerodynamics?
they look cool, but why the crazy ride height and solid axels in the front? not hating just curious..
morgan brown to transfer weight to the rear. Was the style back then. Pure drag race cars.
Maybe I’m just very old-school but in my mind gassers had straight axles upfront and kind of a backward rake. Am I wrong? Anyone?
What did he run???? Coverage omits times...
aurelio de Puerto Rico bellos vehículos perfecto
ET's damn it! How fast were these guy going?
ken cohagen, watch near the end. They're on the clock then. It shows trap speed and et
straight shootin was flyin
Bring back the Fuel and Gas Coupes and sedans.........pounds per cu. in.
As cool as they were and still are, there aren't enough people wanting to drop half their paycheck on gas while never passing a gas station. They were a product of their time and can only survive in racing and classic car shows.
Putting a Ferrari or Lamborghini with one of these two gasser, which engine is louder?
The gasser, by far.
Love this old stuff. Excuse my ignorance but why did they think setting a car up this way was a good idea? Didn't they know about the effects of a high COG were in those days?
John Wilson the way I heard it was at the time they thought you could get better weight transfer for more grip cause tire technology back then was horrible
Thanks mate. It's sort of like how they used to think putting the driver behind the motor in a top fuel rail was a good idea.
im going to do a 87 monte carlo ive never seen a g body gasser befor
reapper8
just don't do the g body shuffle. might not end well.

1:31 rambler american, USA= Renault Torino , Argentina..
Sticks only...
Plenty of horsepower under the hood. A little short on brain power behind the steering wheel.
You cant have a Gasser with an automatic trans.
legend has it these cars ran fucked up timing to compensate for back tire bigness.
Why is that Black Nova and some others so F##KING HIGH ???!! Makes ZERO SENSE
That's the way they did it back in the day.
WTHeck... no E.T's ? awww maaaannn...
1/8 mile racing sucks. Also, back in the day, we didn't use slush boxes. You weren't a gasser racer unless you could powershift your small block at 8500 RPM.
