    I’m glad more ammo manufacturers are making this round, while it’s great having some of it be affordable for plinking, it would be nice if one of them would make some rounds at the higher velocities it’s supposed to be at. It’s like having all the manufacturers produce 10mm ammo with 40cal female FBI agent powder loads right now.

      Yup to get 100% out of a cartridge you either have to reload, know someone who reloads, or go to boutique ammo manufacturers. Companies like buffalo bore, and underwood ammo sell 40 s&w loadings that outperform 10mm ammo! I get that not every loading needs to be a compressed load but c'mon.

      Rumor has it that most of the manufactures of 5.7x28 all agreed to lower the fps of their ammo in order to avoid having all 5.7x28 reclassified by the AFT as "armor piercing". I have also heard rumors that fn will refuse to sell bullets or brass to any company that refuses to under load their 5.7 ammo as well.

    • @BuffRANGE
      @BuffRANGE  Před rokem +10

      @@D.Trout222 they can’t (well they can) add new definitions to existing law. If the core isn’t a banned material or a FMJ larger than 22 cal with a jacket where the weight exceeds 25%, it’s all fair game. But you know ATF is going to ATF.
      I certainly entertain thought provoking theories and I don’t disagree. FN has no patent on that ammo anymore. Nothing is stopping anyone from making their own brass or ammo. Yet I get this feeling from Speer when I talked to them that they hinted at being limited to performance aspects when we know that bullet design held to 16” velocities. ;)

    I think but correct me if I’m wrong we’re going to have two things in play here soon … as more and more popularity grows in this caliber and we have reliable plinking ammo should drive costs of the basics like federal,197,fiocchi,and AAC, to somewhere around 19.99,24.99$ a box … it should result in some manufacturers to offer commercial high performance back in to the 50$ range as I believe we 5.7 owners would be more than willing to pay for truly HP stuff similar to S4,dragon fang and the like

    • @BuffRANGE
      @BuffRANGE  Před rokem +1

      Part of the problem is that most manufacturers are unwilling to work with FN to get setup for the 5.7 caliber and then have to pay a royalty. If AAC or someone else brings component brass to the table I think that will be crucial to higher performing ammo.

      @@BuffRANGE I've seen SS197 still penetrate to FBI standards while the 27 gr. stuff didn't seem to. I was curious how the Gold Dots performed any differently to SS197SR, but Paul Harrell's video on it seemed disappointing.
      I know Elite Ammunition said they were working on one, but it's been constantly delayed. A shame, because if that project ever does go through, I'm buying a bunch of them. To think that 20 rounds of 5.7 is now on the low end with the extensions available for the other 5.7 guns.

    • @BuffRANGE
      @BuffRANGE  Před rokem +1

      @@gameragodzilla The 27gr stuff yeah will only make it 8-10" but does have velocity on it's side. SS197SR just doesn't have much terminal affect at pistol velocities. I'm hoping the AAC Vmax will get us some more speed. The original design Gold Dot works better than the newer 4 pedal design they went to as far as expansion and penetration goes, but I am not sure when they switched.
      IMO EA's best ammo is T6B, Dev 3.0, S4M, and ProtecTor 1. I thought they may have been working on a copper expanding 35-40gr which would be good, but who knows.
      Vanguard has their HP I'm testing hopefully soon.

    • @gameragodzilla
      @gameragodzilla Před rokem +1

      @@BuffRANGE Yeah, though in my view, the main benefit of the 5.7 cartridge is its low recoil, light weight and high capacity, and a lot of people claim all pistol rounds suck at terminal effect. heh
      So as long as the round meets FBI penetration requirements, I'm good.
      Of course, there are disagreements, but frankly if I do care about terminal effect, I'm more likely to pack a .357 Sig (for energy) or .45ACP (for wound size).
      I do really want to get my hands on some T6B, but unfortunately Elite Ammunition hasn't had much in stock recently. The armor piercing capabilities of that round was impressive. He does occasionally have S4M, and I know the 27 gr. stuff can be converted into that, but how does that round compare to T6B? Seems like T6B is the best of the bunch.
