"People dont need democracy anymore. People started a revolution are selfish, greedy and undiscipline human beings. All we need is discipline. With discipline, citizens will listen, educated and well aware. All I want for our Yarans is to understand the concept of life. Sheeps needs a strong shepherd to lead them. Like a Lion, Diego. Discipline is a must. Order must be implemented. Thats why I am evil. To eradicate the evil, you have to act a villain. "

I think deep down, Castillo knew he was a psychopath but he genuinely loved Diego. So by killing Diego and himself, he chose to break the cycle of insanity as he didn’t want Diego to be an exact copy of him (since he was tortured by the rebels after his father was killed). I don’t think Dani would have been able to convince Libertad not to do the same to him.

i think he killed his son out of equal parts twisted love and pride. instead of meeting his end by rebel hands he controls his own fate. instead of the castillo family dying by rebel hands, he takes it. instead of his vision dying at the hands of rebels it dies by his. rather than see his legacy be stained by lambs he brings it with him. he brings his vision with him to the grave. diego was part of that vision so he follows.
that's the pride part. but secondly he started to actually care for diego. though he was not religious i believe he didn't want to see rebels seperate them from each other. he foreshadowed his own murder, he asked diego if he knew what the last lesson was. diego answered death. in that moment he had already decided to kill his son. he knows rebel leaders can and would protect diego, they've proven as much. but that's exactly why he needed to die. if his son lived it would ironically have been yet another thing taken from him by rebels, tainted by them. diego would not be the next el presidente. anton knows this, diego confessed so at the dinner table. *so rather than see his son be converted by lambs, he kills him while they are still lions.* while he is still his son, while diego is still his son and still respects him. before he converts and begins to hate his father. it's love in a way, but a selfish love. it's loving his son for himself and not for him, killing him.
his proclamation "lies!" isn't made with full conviction. for the first time, at the end of his rope, truth or lies, he lied. he líed to himself. hearing that the rebels will protect and shield his son is too terrifying to bear. his life and vision in chambles, he begins coping. clinging to the only thing he can still control. their lives.
it's an ironic and fitting end, that the dictator obssesed with truth and the greater good breaks down in the end. betraying his own beliefs by lying and being shortsighted. this is very integral to the story in my opinion because this is an ending that reveals his empire to have been a lie. all along it was all empty rhetoric, a bloated lie, the empire an illusion. if he killed his son strategically like some suggest then he would have in a way have been correct. he was true to his vision and it was brought down by savages whom did not understand the greater good, just like he said. which is a bad ending in my opinion. it's important for the climax of a story to be a result of the villain's flaw(s), the way they are incorrect. to not just end the villain in the plot but to end them in the story, themes & message. what they represent. at least for this type of story.

  • @Xayayah
    @Xayayah Před 2 lety +104

Important detail is that Diego had Leukemia aswell, as shown in one of the documents found in Esperanza. The entire Castillo male family line suffered from it; and seeing as viviro no longer helps Anton probably worried that Diego would die of sickness or get killed/imprisoned by the opposition. So in some way he saved him from his inevitable fate, although he could've just gotten him on a boat to escape Yara. The reasons as to why he didnt could be his mental unstabillity and paranoia in the later stages of the game; or he didnt want to stain his family name by having his son run away instead of inheriting the throne.
Overall i think the story was amazing, ending seemed a bit rushed which is not uncommon in Ubisoft games.
I feel like the game has such low ratings because of the repetitive gameplay. Barely anything changed from the Far Cry 3 era, go from point A to Point B & kill X amount of people; Capture Base, Checkpoint/Watchtower. I'd give the story a 7/10 because of the anatagonist alone, gameplay is around the same if its the first far cry game ur playing; if not its a solid 4/10.

Clara and Diego's death hit me like a train. With Clara, surely I'm not the only one who could see that Dani harbored some deeper feelings there? I feel like the game often teased that but never quite outright said it. To see Dani so distraught by her death but using that pain to push the revolution into its final phase...
And then with Diego, he was like this little brother who Dani just wanted to protect and save from Antón. When Diego said "You were the lucky one" just like Lita said, bringing the game full circle, I just about lost it.

I noticed that in the pictures of Diego and Anton that appear on the map it say:
Diego: *The future of Yara is in his hearth*
Anton: *For free Yara we must slith his throat*
    And look what happened here.
Diego got shot in his heart and Anton killes himself by cutting his throat

Why are all far cry games Endings Soo disappointing in the end , it really seems like the secret endings are really the better ones imo.

@The Lonely Proto seems lacking in terms of drama. Plus killing thousands in a revolution is quite an obvious scenario. It's not like this game makes you care a lot about weight of that outcome.
Far Cry 4 had much more interesting twist with the same dictator story

Far cry games never have happy endings, the only time there really is ever a "good" ending is the secret ones.

How is this disappointing? I think it fits well. Anton has already lived through one revolution and didn’t want his son to go through it again. Even tho Dani would’ve treated him well, most of yara would still hate him for being a Castillo.

@@user-sw7ln9ro7y idk if you’ve actually played the game and gotten to this point, but a lot of things happen to make you care about the end. If you don’t personally care then that’s just you.

It really sucks because I really thought you would just get rid of Castillo and let Clara and Juan take care of Yara and maybe raise Diego like a brother and take him to America to watch baseball games but when he got shot that shit crushed me mans didn’t ask for that life and I thought he was Vass😔

Would be awesome if Diego was the final boss of the game. Imagine him throwing Viviro at Dani, who starts allucinating, fighting multiples Diegos who will attack with full rage to defend his father against Dani, quite similar to the fight against Joseph Seed in Far Cry 5. In the ending, Dani end up nearly killing Diego, who hugs his father while crying in despair, and then Anton shoots him and commit suicide right after...
