In fairness, the guy who ran the original Marathon, Pheidippides, ran WAY more than just 26 miles. He was a professional message-runner, and in the course of 4 days, he ran more than 350 miles. First, he spent 2 days running from Athens to Sparta and back ( a trip of about 150 miles each way), carrying Athens' call for aid and Sparta's response. Then upon returning from that trip and hearing that the battle had already begun, he ran from Athens to the town of Marathon (where we get the name from) where the battle was taking place, a trip of about 26 miles, fought in the battle there until it ended, then ran another 26 miles back to the top of the Acropolis (the small mountain at the center of Athens), announced the victory, then dropped dead. The dude didn't die from running one marathon, the dude died from running FOURTEEN marathons back-to-back AND fighting in a battle for hours as the cherry on top.

@@reiko6567 Right? People back in ancient times were hardcore. Imagine running 150 miles from your hometown to another city to deliver a message, waiting around for them to figure out a reply, then running all the way back carrying that reply. Then imagine getting there, and having your city's leaders tell you that the battle has already started, and that they need you to go figure out how its going because all their other runners are already fighting with the army there. Then you run all the way to the battle, see that it's still going on, join in and spend hours fighting for your life. Then when your side wins, the army's leaders tell you to finish your job and go back to tell the city what happened.
I dunno about you, but I think my heart would have exploded about half-way through the first trip, much less after all the rest.

The F-35 is a stealth fighter jet. From what I remember of that story is they were training and for some reason the pilot had to eject from the plane but left the auto-pilot on.
The F-35 is supposed to be probably our second best best fighter jet that is also the best one we actively use. Not the best just the one we're willing to put on display and is the one other countries try to copy. I think it's also the one capable of shooting down satellites and I think it did something else crazy recently but I forget.
Anyways it's a stealth fighter so on top of being such a good plane other countries can't see it on radar with a few exceptions. When the pilot let it loose on the country it was able to keep flying without being seen until I think it ran out of fuel.
Also I think typically they have a radar that broadcasts it's position when they want to be seen but I guess he also forgot to turn that on.

And a little more info on the Marathon guy: he ran those twenty six miles under duress, as he was trying to contact allies to inform them of an invasion (I think it was a Spartan guy going to Athens over the Persians? I'm not sure and I can't be arsed to look it up). So he didn't just run twenty six miles, that guy HUSTLED twenty six miles. If he didn't get help in time his army was boned. He was likely already exhausted before he began, and was probably fueled by pure adrenaline.

21:45 No, the Uk version is actually safer. The top prong is extended out further than the other two so that it can hit a switch that opens up the bottom two prong holes, meaning that the chances of being electrocuted by the socket in your house goes way down. We actually figured this shit out while you went for the easy route.

    • @Asdayasman
      @Asdayasman Před měsícem +1

Also the BS plug has the cable coming out of the bottom so you can't pull on it to remove the plug, meaning it won't get damaged over time from yanking, and the plug is designed with a standard factor so it can be removed easily. BS plugs also have fuses, so EVERY piece of equipment is safer rather than relying on coars-grained over-amperage detection at the panel.
      On the topic of prongs:
      * The earth pin is LONGER than the other two pins so it's the first thing to connect and the last thing to disconnect, meaning your device will be grounded before it's energised and you can't plug it in partially and leave a faulty device dangerous.
      * The earth pin is on top, so if the plug is partially inserted and something drops on top of it, it will hit an inert prong and not cause a danger.
      * The live and neutral prongs are usually sheathed so even if the plug is partially inserted, energised, and you drop/swing something into the energised pins, you still can't cause an issue because they're insulated.
The ONLY bad thing about BS plug design is the propensity to rest on their backs, with the prongs facing upwards, leading to you occasionally pluggin them into your own feet if you're a messy bastard and don't tidy your room. (Also lots of appliances don't use BS plugs, fuck you Apple for the shite you make).

Tom and Jerry shorts were theatrical releases, not a seasonal show. Blue Cat Blues was the 103rd short, released in 1956. It was not the last of the original MGM run (1940-1958) or even the last short released that year. The first Tom and Jerry TV series wasn't until 1975.

Marathon running was created on the basis of war messenger legends, who delivered them by literally running themselves to death over long distances in ancient times.
The most notable is the greek legend, about the Battle of Marathon, where a person ran to deliver a message "we have won" and then died. This was the basis for the name Marathon.
The 26 mile distance was standardized in the year 1921. The distance ran by Pheidippides was 150 miles.

I kept it with me in my pocket all the way up through graduation and till I enlisted. Not because I had a crush on her or anything, but because coming from a broken home with a lot of issues, it was the first and only time that I felt... seen. Accepted. That little gesture and bit of compliments meant more to me than I did to myself. Some twenty odd years later I reconnected on Facebook solely just to tell her thank you and that I still remembered it. You never really know how your offhand comments or actions can wind up having a profound impact on someone's life, or how those you might have met only in passing have been completely changed by you. A small compliment or act of kindness can go a long ways. You never know just what or how someone might be secretly struggling.

The family only had Tom to catch Jerry, so without Jerry Tom would lose his home. Without Tom, they might get a cat that has an actual interest in hunting Jerry. This co-dependence ends in a friendship in which Jerry is actually the one to get him out of this depression, and vice versa when Jerry gets his heart broken.

It's just a McD with Art-Deco/Streamline style of building. Very popular design in late 1940 and 1950. For example - Empire State Building - is a Art-Deco design made skyscraper.
I guess this McD - one of first ones (when they didn't invent their corporate famous design yet), when McD was taken from real McD brothers family (Yes, it is real - look it up, McD as business basically was taken away from original creators to a some door-merchant guy (There even a biopic-film about this - made recently), just like with KFC (which was too - was taken away from Sanders) ).
About plugs - it is indeed true, USA uses old/Edison (patent thief and patent buyer of USA, not a genius of innovation btw)/earlier Tesla standard for e-plugs (yes, it's made by Tesla - after he leaves Edison company), when EU and all world - uses a late Tesla standart for e-plug. The more you know.
