  • This year, my father passed away.
During his final months, and especially weeks, I used walking in the morning as a way to prepare myself for what I knew was eventually going to happen.
Each morning, I would wake up at about 4:30am, be out the door by 5 (after a coffee of course) and walk for about an hour listening to the music that reminded me of my Dad.
But also, I would take time to listen to the birds waking up, the wind move through the trees, and the see the stars in all their beauty. I would then go see my Dad and speak with him about how grateful I was for being with him.
After his passing, I continued to walk and it had a whole different vibe to it. I felt like I could hear him in the world, but in a new way. I could see him in the stars, and I could feel him in the breeze.
I know God has my father in his arms now, and while my Dad never confessed to believing in him, it didn’t matter. God believed in and loved my Dad.
This song is what I wrote a few weeks after his passing and captures the magic of walking around in the morning.
The two images I’ve selected are:
The chair outside our house, under our first Christmas tree that dad planted in the garden. We would sit out there as a family in the last few years and just talk.
My dad’s ‘Channeled’ hoodie. My dad proudly wore this and now I have it. At the final show for my band this year, I played it out for the audience to see.
