I'm a fragrance lover with currently 130 plus bottles. I've been through hundreds if not 1000+ fragrances the past 25 years. I also follow and watch several CZcams fragrance reviewers.
This was one of the best reviews of New York Intense I've seen. 👍

regarding the naming of the perfume @ 4:33 , Patricia de Nicolaï mentioned that she named it “New York” because she missed her sister who had been living there for many years. so the name is a tribute to her sister, some sort of "a scented letter that bridges the Atlantic filled with fragrant memories". so, im not sure if she intended to capture the smell of NY.

I have this and like it. I believe it is the resurrected original Ney York by Parfums de Nicolai from 1989. It's closer to Creeds Bois du Portugal/Lalique Pour Homme lion with added animalic notes. Guerlain Habit Rouge is more of an amber/oriental woody scent, being based on Shalimar. But NYI by PdN has the Fougere accord which steer it closer to Bois du Portugal/Lalique Pour Homme lion than Habit Rouge. The animalic notes listed in Fragrantica are both civet and castoreum, but PdN does a good job controlling them. It's not too skanky, but I do think of NYI as a slightly "dirtier" Bois du Portugal. The sweetness you refer to is due in part to the cinnamon and cloves notes.
It's a really nice fragrance with that "old school" vibe.

Cool review it will be interesting to see if you do a review on the classic Chanel Pour Monsieur EDT (1955) VS EDP (2016)

@@UrbanDwellerNYC The EDP grows on you, you need time with it and its a nice change from the Allure and Bleau line, I a have not tried the classic EDT yet.

I agree. This is too harsh for me up close. Kinda wish I'd seen this review before buying a sample.

it's not supposed to smell like the NYC. It's that NYC is both old and new, which is what de Nicolaï was trying to do with the perfume.

I know it's a stereotype, but I'm curious...do you smell a lot of Santal 33? 😄 Incidentally, Zara just came out with their Vibrant Cities collection and can you guess what New York smells like? 🤦‍♂️ Yeah. 😆 Huge fan of Lalique's Pour Homme edp!

Funny, I don’t get any Santal 33 at all, but maybe if I go back it might change? :)

And yeah I’m also a fan of the Lalique and for me personally, it is a good enough substitute for New York Intense at such a tiny fraction of the price- unbelievable.

@@UrbanDwellerNYC Haha, I meant around NY. 😄 Is it really that popular? I might imagine that something like BR540 or the latest designer would be far more common...

@@justaddlight oh! Haha no actually- a lot of people don’t know or care enough about perfume. Mostly I’m smelling stuff from the Sephora counter 😂

@@UrbanDwellerNYC Hi, can I please ask a question on this fragrance?
On Fragrantica it lists this perfume to have a "Similar vibe/Reminds me of" Amouage Sunshine Man, is that correct, since I'm not able to get an official sample/Decant of Sunshine man, many thanks in advance 💎🔥👍🏻
