Something that stands out to me, why basketball? They do have a scene where they compete in track, which is basically a test on how far your muscles and lungs can take you, so that makes sense in a battle of the sexes scenario. But basketball is like strategy, teamwork, hand eye coordination. None of those things are plausibly seen as things (cis) men or (cis) women are better at. Outside of maybe height, what advantage does a trans woman or cis man pretending to be a trans woman have? It reminds me of the skateboarder who claimed that trans women have an unfair advantage, when scientifically speaking, female bodies are better at balancing (therefore skateboarding) than male bodies.
None of this is remotely offensive, because they're trying so hard. When someone spends millions on a film specifically designed to piss me off, I don't think 'How dare they!', I think 'That's so cute, they wasted all that times and money and all I had to do was exist.' When to take offense is difficult to describe, but when someone blatantly is trying then it's almost endearing they think enough of me to pull that shit, because I don't think about them at all.

Something that stands out to me, why basketball? They do have a scene where they compete in track, which is basically a test on how far your muscles and lungs can take you, so that makes sense in a battle of the sexes scenario. But basketball is like strategy, teamwork, hand eye coordination. None of those things are plausibly seen as things (cis) men or (cis) women are better at. Outside of maybe height, what advantage does a trans woman or cis man pretending to be a trans woman have?
It reminds me of the skateboarder who claimed that trans women have an unfair advantage, when scientifically speaking, female bodies are better at balancing (therefore skateboarding) than male bodies.

None of this is remotely offensive, because they're trying so hard. When someone spends millions on a film specifically designed to piss me off, I don't think 'How dare they!', I think 'That's so cute, they wasted all that times and money and all I had to do was exist.' this may be my favorite episode of the podcast. i am fascinated by how bad this movie is and hope the daily wire continue to sink millions of dollars into future movies to show everyone how not mad they are about everything
So ostensibly they believe that “fake trans people” who pretend to be men are bad people, are all the characters in this portrayed as bad people? And if so, do they have any character arc? Do they realize that what they’re doing is bad on its face? This premise from this perspective doesn’t seem like it works narratively

Even from a propaganda messaging standpoint, it doesn't make sense.
The main characters, men who are ptetending to be women in sports for fame and money, are literally the boogeyman the Daily Wire says is evil... but it's played for laughs and as an action committed by some pitiable guys who are down on their luck. They are NOT treated as the existential threat to women everywhere that bigots and TERFs say they are. If anything, we're supposed to SYMPATHIZE with at least some of them! So what the hell is the point of this?

Yeah its bad story writing that tries to masquerade itself as comedy. There is this misconception that writing comedy is easy when its actually one of the hardest crafts of writing to do because you have to get a lot of things right or the delivery falls apart.

About the "Your parents aren't really proud of you" scene: a common belief among homophobes, particularly in conversion therapy, is that people are LGBT because of their parents (them not loving enough, some kind of childhood trauma by their hands etc.) Which is why that scene seemed so insidious but I don't think the Chapo guys fully picked up the conservative rhetoric there.

Let me tell you, in any kind of sparring, she can utterly destroy me and I don't even know what's happening. Training means a lot, anyone who doesn't think so is a colossal idiot.

I don’t think they went about it well. However I like to think of myself as supportive of trans rights and do feel it’s not ideal that male to female trans athletes compete against those born female. Unfortunately many don’t seem mature enough to address that particular aspect of the situation without being awful so no progress is made.
@@MrRyan-wu4jx there's a mature discussion to be had on parameters; the vast majority of trans people would agree that someone who isn't on testosterone blockers shouldn't compete in an elite woman's sport, but as you say it's a hard discussion to dig into because a vocal minority are determined to be as vile as possible about the issue
@@owllight8usually when I see hubbub about transgender athletes in sports it's a trojan horse for transmedicalism, anti-queer trans adjacent gender identities (genderfluid, nonbinary, neopronouns etc) and anti-self identification. Usually using strawmen like "a cishet man could just announce he's a woman when he's competing and a man when he isn't on the basis of gender fluidity". Seeing them take a much less nuanced and somehow even more shitty stance is fun, I guess.
