Nice video , the problem on why default is on release is that the game has to check if you are holding the A button to roadie run instead of sliding. So it has a window where If you release it before x amount of time you will slide. Pass x amount of time it starts the roadie. It’s why you can’t roadie close to a wall on defaulternate without starting a bounce. I understand we manually do workarounds for this like slides then cancel into roadie or look down and roadie but it’s the main reason for the delay.

I think that making default behave like defaulternate would be a good thing, i see only 2 minor downsides:
1.) If you WANT to roll close to cover (for whatever reason) its harder / not possible
2.) It might feel weird for "used to default"-players
But I would still give the option to use the "old default" but set defaulternate as a standard for the release and call it "default".
I play classic alt with A mapped to LB (tournament-ish) with scufs, roadie running on my left back button, tactical on my right back button.
All movements are controlled by my left hand playing like this...

literally, it only sucks because default now has shorter slide distance & has press & release input. But if Gears 6 has it act like you said “defaulternate,” it would be perfect. My only issue with Gears 5, is the disadvantage for players are up against if those don’t swap to defaulternate/alternate.
