    Okay just going to be the person to inform you guys that Ireland is not in the UK. Breakfast in Pluto and the Wind that Shakes the Barley are Irish movies, not UK movies 💀 The Wind that Shakes the Barley is literally about Ireland becoming independent from British imperialism and all that past genocide and whatnot, and the civil war that followed. Cillian Murphy is a proud Irishman, he is not from the UK, he is not british or english. He is Irish.

      I agree, wholeheartedly! Born in my neck of the woods, County Cork and very proud of him! Yes, it DOES matter that Ireland is not part of the UK.☘️🇮🇪

      You know these. jokers are not journalists of any calibre let alone have a basic Grade 5 education. It really is getting tedious, especially for someone in the industry since 1997.... Could you exert a little effort?? And then the spelling. For God's sake, it is the pinnacle of an insult to not even take the time and extend the respect to spell a person's name correctly.. Amateurs.
      And baby the way, Cillian is friends with Farrell but he thinks the comparison is just more lazy reporting.

    I love Cillian Murphy and this he is a genius. His rich theatrical acting experience really gives him an edge over his peers. He is just fantastic and often so, so nuanced and subtle. Have you seen him in a short movie "All this unreal time"? It's quite something... I enjoy your podcasts, keep delivering!

    Bit late to this, but this is a fantastic retrospective on Cillian’s career!!
    His always been a favourite of mine, his one of those few actors much like PSH etc who whenever comes up on the screen I sit up and watch with interest to see what they’re doing in the film.
    I’ve always enjoyed his collaborations with Christopher Nolan and it’s great he finally got the lead role he deserved as Oppenheimer, he was spectacular in that!

    It's v true what you two said. Cillian Murphy is so underrated although he has been appearing in good pictures for some time already. Only when he played Tommy Shelby & now Oppenheimer does he becomes so hot star- in fact one of the greatest star of all time. His acting is brilliantly amazing ,mesmerizing & phenomenal..!!!
    Love that your topic is " Cillian Murphy: 'cos he deserves all the recognition & all awards & we love him so much💖💥🔥Thank you v much to both of you. Please have some more topics on Cillian Murphy, the most favourite actor at the moment.

    Actually guys hes already made another movie, Small Things Like These, based on the book by the great Irish writer Claire Keegan. Enda Walsh wrote the script and he must have made it before the strike so pretty soon after Oppenheimer! It comes out about March 2024. Loved your podcast BTW 😊😮

    He will always be the evil guy who traumatized Rachel McAdams on Red Eye. Next, I think of Tommy Shelby riding that horse in Peaky Blinders. I also have always had an appreciation for his beautiful eyes.

    Although I agree he should win an Oscar for Oppenheimer, he likely won't. He has a pronounced aversion to the campaigning and schmoozing required to get the attention of the award show voting body.

    On Peaky Blinders popularity: yes, it was a BBC show and Netflix only picked up the worldwide distribution in S5 or so, by which time it had already become a huge cultural phenomenon in the UK and Ireland (also a strong cult following worldwide), where word of mouth had it growing every season, but especially after season 2, so he was already getting recognized in public in that part of the world. Basically, it didn't immediately blown up in the UK and was more of a gradual build with every season becoming bigger than the last.

    Correction: Ken Loach is a Brit, not an Irish director!

  • @roadrollerdio565
    @roadrollerdio565 Před 3 měsíci

    Clarification on the Peaky vs Oppenheimer accents: Cillian does a Brummie (Birmingham) accent in PB, which is _much_ harder than Oppie's accent, given that even in previous works, he's always had a better, more natural American accent than a "British" accent (his Dunkirk accent for example is an upper class English accent and not 100%, it sounds _slightly_ unnatural). Irish is not similar to Brummie _at all_ and Brummie is notoriously specific (think Boston to general American but more idiosyncratic) while Oppenheimer's specific accent was pretty Transatlantic, so he could use his past experiences with American and English upper class accents. So to me, Tommy Shelby is still his most defining and immersed role.

    Also watch The Party again.. it's a fantastic political satire.. very British and could have been a play, but clever script, great cast and Cillian is hilarious in it, especially later in the movie with the record player 😂 But very British humour 😅
