Rain testing gear - Tarp shelter , camping table & stool
In this video I head out to test my gear in the rain. I check out the new insta350 x3 action camera, pitch the Rab element solo tarp and have a brew and a bite each using the jetfoils stash along with a handy little camping table.

Hey Paul..scammer just replied to my comment..one of those telegram/prize doobies..watch out.
Thankyou for the channel Mention about me looking at the hydrated and dehydrated meals paul. Yep they are a lot of money for what they are.
You’ve got a lot of faith in a one legged table to be boiling water that close to your plums. Still it all turned out well just shows you shouldn’t let the weather stop you going out.
I can vouch for the longevity of the little green tables, I’ve had a couple that we’ve used with the caravan, tents and motorbike for over 20 years👍
Pound the bottom tube in the ground until it's about halfway in first, then attach the top tube and table for ultimate stability. That way, you're not pounding on the flimsy table top. Great vid, as per usual, Sir!
I love that you watch “the little people” like English woodsman - who is friggin’ great and also not so little nowadays. A tarp just turns a shitty day into heaven 🤩
The 360 filming is totally amazing, I always like the way it looks as though it's nowhere near you. 👍
Hey Paul, I just wanted to say because of your softly spoken style I find your videos really relaxing!
I love going out in the rain. In some way it is so calming. The tarp setup was nice.
Your down to earth practical videos are great, love them and you obviously get good enjoyment making them👌
Fine egg noodles
Soya sauce
Dash of Tabasco
Finely chopped spring onion
Half chicken stock cube
Add boiling water, wait five to ten minutes and eat.
Bit of a Soba Noodle addict myself! Highly recommend the packet (not pot) versions. Noodles are better quality, chilli (90p) will warm you up, you get more, and ideal to add a few frozen peas and sweetcorn to your trip.
Exactly right, Ryan. Had my first pot of Soba chilli noodles a couple of days ago and they’re incomparable to the packet version.
Paul should on commission!😎👌
@ditch salt exactly that - their light weight. Only 250ml water needed and they’re also quick to prepare. Nutritional value isn’t brilliant but if you’re just doing a one night camp, they’re brilliant.
paul did you drain the water out of the scoba noodles?
@@mrjohnno noooo! The 250ml all gets absorbed. 👍🏼
Wonderful! I love going walking in the rain, but yes one of the drags of very wet weather is finding temporary shelter from the constant deluge. My brother brought my attention to the joys of small tarps this summer when we put one up to shelter from the insane heat. I must get one to enjoy the intense British rain!
Really satisfying video seeing you get under the tarp in the rain, always a fabulous feeling being dry and watching the rain. Great stuff!!
I'm about a year late watching, but I'm looking at Tarps so this was a good video for me. Thanks.
Aaaah, the little green table with a spike! I had one for years. First with our frame tent, then with the campervan for a further 8 years. It must be somewhere out in the garage now, but the sight of your one brought back many happy memories of lazy campsite cuppas!
Oh yes, that is what I like to see, brilliant footage as well, very atmospheric
So I had the auto generated text on..so funny. Rain became everything from applauses to music. Found your channel today and seen 4 videos. You got some good stuff going on.
Nice! My favorite quick tarp setup for a break from the rain is a plow point... 3 stakes in the ground and a pole or tree to hold up the fourth corner, excellent protection from rain and wind assuming it's facing the right direction.
Dont ever stop the videos mate your inspiring people to do similar 👍
A great one Paul. Showing that the rain can just be as nice as the sun. A good set of waterproofs and your staying dry aswell as getting to explore places with no one around👏.
The new cam makes a difference and even more enjoyable to watch. 💯😎💥
Love the DD tarps, really good quality and pretty bomb proof.
Very cozy looking little setup out the rain and off the wet grass. I need that table.
Thank you. This was quite helpful. I started out in the mid 1970s using a tarp rather than tent. I would like to start using tarps again. So light, open and roomy
Love to see you enjoying mate!
i`ve just bought that little go outdoors table as well Paul , it`s great for 8 quid! , i sprayed the metal legs green and brown and glued the non slip surface down a bit as the corners flapped in the wind and got on my nerves .
PERFECT place to put a cider and a book when i`m in my hammock in the woods
30 years in film and television around the globe and this is some of the best photography I've come across.
Brilliant vlog Paul! Looked fun! Thank you!👏👏👏👏👏👏
Another great share here, looks easy to put up.... the rain sounds with a little bite to eat 😄 thank you for sharing it 💯👌👍
Absolutely love the rain. Really enjoyed this vid 👍
Great video Paul, the sound of the rain on that tarp is so soothing. In terms of instant noodles I don't know if you wanted ones in pots or stuff you can also throw in a pan. If its in a Pot, Shin Yun Ramyun is the best for me. Its in most if not all the big UK supermarkets. For ones not in a pot I really enjoy any of the Indomie noodles, again ive seen them in every supermarket. Beef Rendang is my favourite but the Mi Goreng is excellent too
my idea of heaven , sat there listening to the rain and having a brew with no one else about , happy days , cracking video Paul
Well done Paul inspiration as always
Loved this one!! Great tarp and table.
Charming and simple. Don't always need to lash the big bucks
Great little setup Paul. Enjoy “soaking” in your camping knowledge. Watching from Halifax, NS 🇨🇦
Enjoyed your rain trial, Nice kit demo. 😀
Great video and excellent shout on the Soba noodles - being able to drain them with the lid makes them much nicer!
Love sitting under a tarp in the rain! Neat little table as well!
Like the new table. Handy
Thanks for this video! I admit that rain stops me from going on some adventures, but I guess that's just question of having the proper gear and the envy to explore!😄
Love camping in the rain, not so keep on the drying out and clean up afterward, though. I have had a couple of those little green tables for about 3 years, simple but very useful as a table or a place mat. 👍
Excellent video, love the tarp and we buy those noodles too.
Wow you have so delicious breakfast .😋thanks for sharing your video dude love this. Sounds of rain🥰
Great as always Paul!
Those noodles are amazing the beef one is my personal fav. Great videos as always 🎉
Just ordered one of those tables. 360 was great.
cozy af.
Testing ones gear is really underrated. Just 30 min on the lawn with a garden hose, you'll spot potential issues a mile away that can turn a hellish trip into a hell'uva good time.
100% with you on the Soba noodles. Delicious!
Nice vid Paul, can't beat Soba noodles I often and a bit of shredded/chopped cooked chicken lifts it to another level
Great film thanks (as always). Talking about the cost of dehydrated meals, I’m surprised no one ever considers taking canned food backpacking. Despite the extra weight, at the end of a long hiking day, what would you rather eat, a dehydrated meal out of a plastic pack, or a plateful of stewed beef casserole and some tinned potatoes and carrots at about a third the cost? I know which I’d prefer, and you have to carry extra water anyway if you want the dehydrated food with that weird taste out of the plastic pouch. For an overnighter, please give those canned foods a try!
😁👍🏻
As soon as you started with the 360 footage I had a warm feeling as I have just bought one too.... Another great video Paul. Love that table.. great idea and on my list now. Got a couple of days over Dartmoor to look forward to next week
Love that area for a quiet mid week walk. :)
p.s. the 360 footage is fantastic - great addition to your filming capabilities 🤗
keep going paul your videos are great James
Cheers Mr Messner, another great vid - loved the rain on tarp sound in the back ground. I've still to try a tarp - I much prefer my inner tent to keep the spiders out but it certainly looks better to get a view of the beautiful surroundings. Would love to see how you choose and set up the tarp.
Tis true for me that the meals and MREs offers priced themselves out of my range back when I was still up and running. Worked around that no problem the last few years by buying with my hunting buddy a food dehydrator and following suggestions from Y/T recipes. It worked and gave us an excuse to get together for a pint to do the mixing and spreading on the trays. Before all of that, we were younger and didn't mind carrying a little extra weight food wise. Hell, when we started C-Rations were all there was anyway.
Thought I recognised the location. We used to blast through there on mountain bikes when I lived in Sheffield. Would go more slowly now withmy camera. Beautiful part of the world Paul
That Rab element tarp looks tiny.
Good enough for a shelter, but I'm not sure I'd want to sleep under it.
But that little table looks very handy.
Thanks for another great video 👍
Nice little trip out . Yep some of those camping meals are extortionate. Noodles , Jerky/nuts and dried veg . Take care Paul. 🏕🌧
awesome lil patch a woods n river tho
Loving the 360 camera Paul
nice bit of simple kit.. perfect thing to do on a rainy day :) the 360 footage certainly added some different footage which was fine :)
Nice place.
Second yer on that don't the rain spoil the fun, group of us went out riding our bikes today, very wet in the Lincolnshire Wolds, but great company and some banter makes for a memorable experience. Yes, the trusty Quest Stick, not used it much myself either, difficult to pack on a bike, I wish it was foldable as other than that it's really a good looking product. In the car, van life or hiking great - bikepacking a little awkward to carry - like tripods!
I stand by the neoguri spicy seafood Udon. Keeps you warm with a kick and does wonderfully with some meat/veggies! 😁 love the videos!
3D camera was very nice! well welcome the addition!
Def get the lens protectors :) had mine a couple of weeks and it’s a great camera
Koka Noodles. Tom Yum Flavour. OMG, they're so nice
Smart comment on getting out in the rain Paul. After the summer we’ve had, I don’t think I’ll ever complain about the rain again… that is, until I do 😉🤭
Good pitch! Ideal for English picnics ;-)
Awesome
Great video!!
Nice one Paul....love the tarp ,the 360 ,the noodles 🍜 but the table is class marra ....all the best mate 👍
great video Paul .. i agree about some of those dried camping packet foods .. the prices of some are ruddy extortionate .. long live pot noodles .. 😀
I've been using pot noodles on the odd occasion. I empty it out from the pot into a ziplock bag, save on space, and take 2 summit to seat collapsible cups, one for a brew, the other for the pot noodle ...top tip ;)
I recently bought a very similar stool by a company called Uquip!? i think they are called! Took it camping recently, weighs nowt and super comfy. Great alternative to a chair
Love your new camera👌
360° footage 👍
They indeed are the best noodles..and great vid mate...🤟
The 360 content looks great, adds another dimension. What with the rain events in Sydney I'm gonna have to get wet soon myself 😁
Soba Noodles are the Dogz Bollox Paul. I have them regularly for dinner (lunch for anyone outside Yorkshire) when working from home. Chuck in some lumps of chicken and they are great.
Nice video and a bit different too - the insta 360 x3 looks noice and the table is a great idea - thinking if you got some of that silicon sheet it would resist any heat too and you could stick it to the top of the table. Even the tarp which I am a bit sceptical of (Scotland based and midges would make it almost impossible I think maybe) was well used and a great idea!
My instant noodle love has prepared me for this day!
Soba noodles are probably the best in terms of convenience and taste.
Indo mi noodles (the base flavour version) are easily the best per £1 and taste great. I get mine for under 50p a pack, and they are my go to.
The best noodles are Laksa La Mian. They are the most expensive at about £3.50 per pack. But they contain much more and honestly taste amazing. More than worth the cost.
That config is fine for straight down rain. I was under a DD Super light S last night very low to the ground and it was blowing in 😩😃
I love the idea of this. So often I sit here making excuses; "it's raining, it's cold, there's 100% cloud cover". This video just reminded me that even getting out for some lunch and a coffee is worth it. I don't need a perfect 'full camp' every time.
Quick question: What's that stool? I checked your kit-list but didn't see it. - NEVERMIND, I spotted the logo on it. For anybody that's interested it's the Robens Geographic.
Thanks for the motivation and inspiration.
Going out tmrw with tarp bivvy setup test out love that table video 360 camers just added that xtra too your straight forward talking videos love em look fwrd too Ur next one
Don't do any form of social media no time for it Paul old fashioned that way am nearly 50 now
Nice vid mate and loving the rain on the tarp 👌🏼. I need a bigger lighter weight tarp as I’ve currently only got the alpkit rig 3.5. Those stick tables are the best camping table going IMHO as you can always have a level surface regardless of where you pitch and it weighs nothing whilst being very sturdy. I’ve battered mine over the years and it just keeps doing the job. Anyways let’s get something pencilled in over the next few weeks 👌🏼. Take care Steve
Not this weekend. Not next. But the one after. 👌 let’s do it.
360 is awesome, you should do it more, it really nicly shows your enviroment you are in :) Cheers Paul
Early testing I’m finding in good light and no rain….it’s excellent. Much improved on the X2.
Those Freeze meals are absolutely bonkers here in Canada as well. You could buy a lobster tail dinner for the price of a Salty mountain house scrambled eggs. To Pricey for me. I have always wanted to try getting a dehydrator and making my own though. They don't last as long as freeze dried but it could be a nice way to save weight and still eat good without breaking your back. That said you can't go wrong with noodle snacks. Keep up the good work Paul.
Cosy video - enjoyed this (without needing to get rained on myself)
Try the tesco wicked kitchen noodles, their food is stunning. I recommend the “late night noodles” or “spicy smoky dreamy mac” if youre after a quick rehydratable pot :)
Nice video Paul. ❤❤❤
Camera worked great.
Great video as always. Try Mama noodles thai green is my favourite.
Good old UK weather we're yet to hit a rainy night before it gets to cold.. I love them noodles too 99p here lol banging
I think I need a tarp like that as I enjoy a walk in the rain but need my picnic too
Hello there Paul. Really enjoy your output. A tarp is not for me unless as an emergency shelter !!! But those noodles are bloody delicious !!! Added a bit of dried chilli for a bit of a kick before the water, ( handsome ) as my dad would say. Drank the remaining juice at the end ( Defuckingliscious) as I would say !!! If you fancy a bit of mash during a camp try Idahoan instant mash !!! I know what you are thinking instant mash ??? But it’s actually very good !!! I prefer the cheese version and use a mini plastic whisk to mix in the water. Beats expensive dehydrated meals any day. Good luck and mind how you grow.
