  • Tesla is far from the only company in town with driverless car ambitions. Mobileye, fresh off its spinoff from chip giant Intel, is forging ahead with its own self-driving hardware and software offerings. Dan Galves, the company's chief communications officer, discussed the ins and outs of the company's strategic positioning in the self-driving market, how it plans to fuel growth and where it stands in the competitive landscape.

The pursuit of self driving is good because there are always going to be folks who need public transportation or can't drive their own car because of loss of vision or other impairment. However, the projected demand got WAY over hyped in the last few years and I'm glad to see the number of companies working on this get to a smaller number and major automakers getting out of the business and back to making cars. Also, I really fear that EVs will somehow get blamed for any bad news about self driving. I wish the public could decouple those two things but I feel it's too late. Every time I try to talk to someone about EVs they try to throw the self driving thing in my face.

The "middle bucket" is going to swamp the bucket Waymo and Cruise are in. How will Mobileye compete with Tesla in the robo taxi and personal autonomous driving spaces, how do you compensate for having much less data than Tesla has?

Doomed to failure. Lidar is already antiquated with all the geofencing needed.. Tesla is leaps ahead.

Ikr why does no one realize that an actual autonomy solution is not programmatic but smart and self learning
