It may have been that many people from the community and the mother expected Sunny to forgive Gina. And possibly speak up for her so Gina doesn’t get a long sentence. When Sunny didn’t agree with them because not only did her sister try to kill her(!) but also she and her sister have been huge rivals pretty much since birth. I can imagine she had very, very little empathy for Gina (understandably). I don’t trust or put any faith in their mother’s judgement or actions as she is a deplorable human being. It’s possible the bf and Sunny’s relationship was never that solid really, and based on the community pressure he thought it best to stand against her and walk away. This is just my thoughts on it.

The Korean community are very religious. Almost all the Korean American families that I know go to church every Sunday. I think they wanted Sunny to forgive her sister. Her mom probably felt bad when Gina called her out on being bias, so she's trying to act like a good mom and support the other one since she's the one being convicted. All in all, I personally think they are all messed up. I only felt sorry for the boys if it's true that they were dragged into it.

    • @blehblehs
      @blehblehs Pƙed 22 dny +110

not only is the Korean community religious, they have their age hierarchy, just like Stephanie said. Just from being born 5 minutes early, Sunny is the oldest. Although that earns her some respect, that also means she has to take care of, and put up with Gina’s behavior because “she’s younger and she doesn’t know better.” So they probably also expected Sunny to be lenient and forgiving for being the oldest

Putting them in prison at such a young age for something they didn’t want to do in the first place, is just going to turn them into actual lifelong criminals. 1-3 years with community service and therapy would have been far more useful to make the world a better place.

I'm 20 minutes in and just wanted to give my take so far. As a twin who didn't know I had a twin until I was 13, it did nothing to prevent me from forming an inseparable bond with my sister. We grew up with very different lives - I was raised alone with my less than competent father in one country while she was with our mother in another country living a wealthier and healthier lifestyle than I was. We both grew into decent people separately and endured separate hardships but when we found out about each other we were immediately inseparable.
The part where Steph talks about the separated twins feeling like they're missing something is accurate, but it's a very subtle feeling that I really struggled to understand until the feeling actually went away. I think the best way to describe it is disorienting, like the life you're living isn't right. But at that point when that's all you've ever felt it's hard to put your finger on it.

according to what we can gather of gina’s personality in this case, i think she would’ve emotionally manipulated her mother to take her side. Especially with her break up with her partner, the mum would’ve been able to relate to much of the things gina felt towards her twin- feeling left behind, betrayed ect. surging his, i believe gina would’ve been able to twist her mothers favour out of pity and relation. Again, as the other is also emotionally vulnerable and seems to have such a disconnect from her kids (demonstrated through her neglect) it would be easy for her to switch so quickly and be swayed so easily from favouring one of the twins to immediately switching to become so cold

Not baffling at all. Being Asian raised in a traditional Asian family, the child does not get to speak out against the family, even if there was CA or SA. They will blame the victim for bringing public attention to something they’d rather resolve privately.
The letters sent in by other asian families blaming western media for sensationalizing the case says it all. Esp as a girl, you bow your head, take the abuse and stay quiet. Work hard and forget it ever happened. Bc that’s exactly how I grew up. And what happened when I spoke out. Public image is very important in traditional asian families.

I was a Psychology student for 9 years, so I can attest that it doesn't work that way. In a nutshell, we're taught the history, theories & learn about traits of various mental illnesses. We learn about basic facial expressions that everyone recognises when someone is happy, sad, or angry etc. In Neuroscience (a huge branch of Psychology), we're taught the physiological aspects of the neural system. For example, how neurons communicate & release neurotransmitters. This in turn, contributes to behaviour, emotions &/or cognitive functions. My point is we look at Psychology mostly from a scientific point of view. It's shocking that 200 people liked your comment & agree, even though there's no evidence that we're taught to manipulate people. That's how misinformation spreads so easily, which leads to misconceptions. Manipulation simply comes down to personality traits, which can be used for good or evil. But it's mostly for bad reasons, so it's considered a bad or negative trait. Your environment & those around you, can teach or mould you into becoming manipulative too. In that case, I highly advise the person to leave that group before they become just like them. Nobody likes manipulative people, so they're often miserable people. IMO, I think it may stem from narcissism, believing you're above the law &/or you do it for fraudulent purposes. Some people are either born evil, or are nurtured into becoming evil due to their environment, their upbringing &/or the kind of people they're surrounded by. You are who you hang with, they say & it's often true. It has nothing to do with learning Psychology. The only job I can think of where you're trained to manipulate, is if you work for the likes of Intelligence, or even as a police undercover. Some cops use very dirty methods to catch suspects. I looked into a career in Intelligence & came across that information from people who claimed that Intelligence gets the best & turns them into liars & manipulators. This is why I no longer want to work for them. I don't want to become a dishonest person. But I also recall someone from Intelligence warning me to not believe someone who doesn't want you to work there, just because they're jealous or have an ulterior motive. Problem is, there's truth behind what those people said. As an undercover, you have to lie about who you are of course. I'm ok with that if it's required to arrest someone. But to be trained as a professional liar & manipulator full-time & befriend dangerous criminals, it goes against who I am. However, I also heard that Intelligence picks out people who are naturally manipulative & use them for appropriate assignments. They most likely get extra training on top of it. But man, I wouldn't exactly take it as a compliment if I was selected!😂 I hope people now understand that Psychology doesn't teach you to manipulate people. Even less so for Behavioural Health, which as the name suggests, focuses on mental health & how it affects your behaviour. It's disturbing to see how many people are under the same impression when it's completely untrue. I hope this comment will properly educate people about Psychology.

@@legends51.wordpress Read your comment again. Everything you described CAN be used to manipulate someone. If I can gauge someone's mental and emotional state, it sure as hell can make me manipulate them easier especially since Gina already knows what to say/do to get people to do her bidding. If I knew you felt alone, never felt like you fit in, imposter syndrome, etc. I would pretend to be your friend and try to become someone you ride or die for, I can send you to do little chores and eventually escalate it. For you to claim you "were" a psych student and not know how psychology can be used to manipulate someone is ignorant. Psych has to do with the human mind, and the human mind is capable of more than anyone of us can EVER study in our lifetime. I hope you don't go around spreading misinformation by condescending critique the possibilities even yourself have stated could be possible.

I think aitran is saying that the Psychology diploma itself doesn't teach you how to manipulate people. Rather it's the person aiming for the Psychology degree who wants to learn how to manipulate people using it for that purpose, and they are likely gonna do it with or without the degree anyways, unless they wanna change ofc.
TL;DR: It's not the tool (Psychology degree) it's the user.

Then one day when we were in our mid 20s(we lived with each other for about 27 years), we just stopped arguing and fighting pretty much cold turkey. We sort of came to this mutual epiphany that this was really dumb. I can even still remember the last argument we ever had. I’m a twin and my whole life until age 50, I have shared EVERYTHING With my twin sister ( I’m a girl too ), both mentally supporting her and financially supporting her ( bought her a house,3 cars, designer clothes, took her on holidays Inc a round the world trip etc ). She was a nurse and I was a police officer but the moment she got pregnant, she gave up her career and went on government benefits. So I would pay for everything for her . I didn’t notice but friends of ours since we were 7 have now said that she always played the victim and I her rescuer and she has exploited this throughout her life. Anyway, 4 years ago she borrowed a 4 piece jewellery set ( necklace, earrings, ring and bracelet ) which was very sentimental to me. I asked for her to return it and she did but the bracelet was missing. I very calmly asked where the bracelet was and she denied ever having it ( I have since been given a picture taken two weeks prior to me asking for it back and In the photograph, she is wearing my bracelet ). She became very defensive straight away and I said that maybe she had lost it or dropped it on the way to my house and she started shouting and screaming and accusing me of calling her a thief ( I didn’t ), She then left my house with no shoes on such was her rush to leave and she left my neice and nephew behind and didn’t pick them up for two days even though they were only supposed to stay for a few hours. Since then, despite me reaching out to her, she hasn’t spoken a word to me. She got married and uninvited me and my two children who were to be bridesmaid and usher , yet my 3 brothers attended. It’s crushed me. Then just prior to last Christmas, I found out that I had mouth cancer and my brother asked if he could tell her. I agreed and her reply to my brother was that she must go to the dentist and get herself checked out . She has not once called me or messaged me about it or to ask me how I am. I’ve been through 4 years of hell as I’ve been so depressed and devastated by her. However, I now realise that when I look back, she only ever visited me when she wanted something whether it be financially or emotionally or support mentally. I have finally reached a point where I can now say without crying that I no longer have a twin sister. She has confided in a mutual friend that she has always felt like she was playing second fiddle to me our whole lives and because of her feeling this way, she never wants anything to do with me ever again. Incidentally, this all happened not long after she met her boyfriend now husband and it does make me wonder if she will come running back to me if they ever split up, which is a possibility because they don’t trust each other as I was fielding confidential phone calls from them both and neither of them know that the other has also confided in me. So it appears that it’s down to simple jealousy. There’s a professor who has studied twins and there are a high % of twins who reach middle age and the relationship totally breaks down, never to be rekindled again and it’s down to jealousy.

Not to mention the mother definitely didn't help Sunny's state of mind by getting people from their community to rally behind the person who tried to harm her. It's no surprise Sunny state of mind spiraled.

Im a FRATERNAL twin but I did grow up in a study hard household and I can very much confirm that being separated would definitely affect the relationship. When being together in early youth, you naturally bond together due to basic circumstances. When stripped of that connection early on, it basically ensures that you see your "twin" as a copy of yourself, a better/worse version of yourself.

One, the mother's fave and pride and joy, was slim, outgoing, gregarious and into sports. Made friends very easily.
The slightly younger twin was the exact opposite, quiet and almost invisible.
When we attended the wake of the older twin who had died of cancer at age 16, many felt sad for the younger and thought she would feel the loss alot.
I had a feeling she would actually be happier coming out from her late twin's shadow.
I was right. She totally changed, blossomed and 'became' her twin.

I don't know where it came from. It was just always like that. Our relationship became slowly better after our twentiees. She huged me for the first time when we were 23 or something. I was always jealous of other twins that had amazing conection because i was pushed away by my twin. It scared me for life.
She was the cool girl, and i was the sister that everyone forgot about.
I remember when we had birthday and we shared some candy with the clasmates, they wished her "happy birthday" and then the looked at me and said "oh...its your birthday too...".
    Yeah, so fun đŸ˜
